Plumeria isn't really a big seller here in the San Francisco Bay Area, as we aren't warm enough in winter, or hot enough in summer for them to be a reliable outdoor plant. Mail order sources are probably a better bet for a good selection. If you are actually staying in San Francisco, Flora Grubb Nursery in the Bayview District is a good place to visit, although I usually buy my tropicals from a couple of nearby indoor wholesale nurseries that aren't open to the general public, for a more extensive selection of tropicals. Across the Bay Bridge, Berkeley Hort Nursery and The Dry Garden Nursery in Oakland are worth checking out, or Annie's Annuals Nursery in Richmond, which also has a web site and does mail order, at www.anniesannuals.com. There is a nursery specializing in tropicals up in Santa Rosa, I forget the name, that has an extensive selection of Hibiscus and probably Plumeria as well, maybe someone else will remember the name of it. Kartuz Nursery out of Vista is another mail order nursery that has an extensive selection of tropicals, they also have a web site.

I volunteer at the Huntingtonn Botanical Gardens, our cactus nursery is 10-12 acres about. We have a large world class Japanese Garden, we now have 1/3 of a finished World ClassChinese Garden which will be the largest outside of China, we have a tropical greenhouse World Class, we have a Shapespear Garden( I'll explain that if needed) we have an Australian Garden, we have a World Class Rose Garden, we have a childrens garden, and learning center, we have the largest plam garden west of the Rockies. We have several speciality greenhouses for the public, Calif, has many worthy gardens, one in San Francisco, one at U.C.L.A. yes the Quail Gardens, and the Drescendo Gardens, to many to name here. Sorry may hands are not able to type that long. The Huntington is considered a world class garden because they have close to 1000,000 plant documented and recorded. We have a Herberium, have lecture halls, and training centers, we take in students from all over the world to train. It is a must see. It opens at 10:30 and closes 4:30 it has a cafteria, and a tea room, wear very comforatble walking shoes, and if you need a wheelchair be sure to reserve it. We have free lecture days, check what is in flower the month that you plan to visit. Oh, yes they have docent tours. I forgot out famous library, and art galleries. Norma

Oh thank you! That sounds easy to find and not too far away. I do have a list of other plants I am casually looking for too but if I don't find them this year there's always next year. Pinky Winky hydrangea ( I like saying the name) Hot lips salvia - I did buy one of Monrovia's heatwave series- Scorch- today which is very pretty although I went looking for hot lips. You would think I could find this locally given how popular it is but not yet. Indigo Spires and not Mystic Spires which is all over the place. Zebrina Hollyhock. I don't see any seedlings coming up this year.

You should try Mimosa Nursery in E. Los Angeles. They have a huge selection of Tropical Fruit trees. I was there a couple of weeks ago. They had Lychees, Longans, Rose Apple, Wax Jambu, Wampee, Mango, Jakfruit, Caimito, Cherimoya, Atemoya, Sugar Apple, Guava and much more.
