Advice pls - new chairs arrived damaged, store won't replace
Comments (41)It is VERY common for a store to repair an item rather than replace it. This is not because the store wants to shaft the customer. It is usually because the manufacturer will want to send replacement parts (ie, the base of a chair, seat of a sofa, side panel of a bed, etc.) rather than replace the entire piece. This is common sense. Why would any store replace an entire piece when a part can be ordered and make the existing piece new again. Most people have no clue how the industry works nor do they have a clue how most furniture is made and built. If you bought a new car and something was wrong right away, the dealer would repair it, not give you a whole new car. This is standard practice in the furniture industry as it should be. I have worked in furniture for over 30 years with 3 different companies. Repairing before replacing is not a scam and is standard practice in most instances. Most advice given online about how to deal with furniture stores is garbage, and most issues can be resolved with a simple repair of replacement part. If a leather sofa comes with a big scratch, why on Earth would the manufacturer replace the enitre piece when they could replace just a seat cushion, or even send a cut and sew piece of leather for a repair person. American consumers are spoiled and seem to think they can just demand whatever they like from a store and the store has to kiss their ass. Nope!...See MoreNew chair(s), Chapter 2
Comments (9)Funny, I was just in there with the tape measure admitting to myself that the potential new chair is not much smaller than the chair in the corner by the TV. I like to have a chair there because we occasionally do use it, actually more to drag it into the sitting area in the family room, which is only a few feet away. So maybe I do need a chair there, but it can be much smaller. I have a smaller chair in another room, maybe I'll put it there just to check size. Also, the brown leather chair needs to stay put because that is my TV-watching throne....See MoreNew painting, new chairs, need help!!!
Comments (9)At the very least for now, pull that sofa away from the walls and towards the center more. It will add some depth to the space and enhance the picture. You could even think about a nice sofa table (long and thin) under the picture for some lighting to sit on. Move your chair to the left more place your end table near the chair and get the stuff out of the corner...it's cramped and out-of-sorts looking the way it is currently. Moving the items more into the room will up the styling. I also agree with Beth H. paint the walls. Her suggestion of a rich and clear dark blue would be perfect....See MoreNew Chairs Dilemma
Comments (5)Wondering if you have old chairs you could use until kitchen has been updated, as that may lead you in another direction style wise. To find chairs that could really suit the table, as well as save a fortune, look for second hand. I quickly found these and upholstering seats is very easy. The advantage is fabric could tie in the look/color scheme you are after (Sunbrella upholstery fabric would be a good choice)....See Moreanonymous
