Critique my mantle! Help!
Comments (7)I understand that the outlet's on your radar, and you zero in on it every time you look at the fireplace ... but when I read your post, I actually thought, "Outlet? What outlet?" And I had to look back to verify that an outlet was actually part of the picture. So don't assume that other people are noticing this! I agree with the poster who says that your art is sort of "lost" in the grand scheme of things; it's all about the color. I suspect, however, this art is a great backdrop for something else. I vote for something like RED flowers or candles, something to introduce some color to this monochrome fireplace. I also don't love the grey walls. The fireplace is beige ... and grey doesn't really play all that nicely with it. I suggest you try a real color, not a neutral. Blue is "safe", but you'd need the right blue....See MorePlease help me choose colors for FP wall & mantle
Comments (8)Charley, I would paint the wall the Moccasin as others suggested. Pretty color BTW! I just pulled out the BM color deck to look at it. Why don't you paint the trim and fireplace the lighter shade on the card - mohair? Another option would be to choose a darker color from the card for the fireplace like baked cumin or gingersnaps. If you do this, then everything will definitely blend! Even if you do the fireplace darker, I would stick to a lighter moulding color but not stark white....See Morehelp finishing my mantle

Comments (3)It would be best if you took everything off the hearth below and moved them where they don’t look they could catch fire. I would take away the objects on the right side of the mantle, and I would add a tall blue vase between the madonna and the painting, with dried grasses In it I think I would propably leave the rest of the mantle blank, unless I was going to add St Francis on the other side and a few birds… ;) I might frame and mat the painting and actually hang it....See Moresphm620
