She's favoring her left leg. Used to people, there are nearby cabins, she ran along side the road when she heard our SUV, stopped when I called to her, long enough to eat a big blueberry muffin.

Congratulations, jasdip! Nice win! Sounds like it would be a perfect size when you're cooking for just two. I have a great recipe for a sweet potato casserole that might be perfect for that. Scalloped potatoes (& ham). Agree on omelette or fritatta... and definitely one of those puffy German pancakes... with apples! :) Now I'm getting hungry.

A month long Scarecrow Festival in Cambria, CA......it will end on Halloween. I think there are about 135 scarecrows throughout the town.

Ah Bob. My daughter & I were there in April this year for a wonderfull river/canal boat cruise. Kinderdijk was about our favorite place, but I surely do love The Netherlands.

I liked your Dutch windmill shot.

Did you know that those Dutch windmills have an automatic aiming mechanism? When activated, it keeps the blades (sails) turned toward the wind. Its a wonderful piece of engineering and the mill works for years.

Maybe some of the more new-fangled windmills have automatic aiming mechanisms. The ones I saw didn't. The one pictured below was a recently re-built mill of an older style that was originally built before 1575.

While we were there the resident came out, climbed down these stairs behind the windmill and manually turned the top of the windmill using the big wheel shown here. They then unfurled the sails on the blades and started the windmill going.

We toured one of the other windmills there and it was hard to believe that people lived in these things. There is not much space to begin with but there is also this giant, noisy mechanism right in the middle of the space.

Maybe in this area they didn't have the auto-aiming mechanism for historical accuracy, or maybe because it is a touristy spot and given how close the blades are to the ground, having the windmills turn unexpectedly in a wind shift and kill an unwary tourist or two would be a bad idea.
