Well,I guess I'm really blind! I don't see the butterfly in Jodi's or Gazania's picture! Just kidding,but I really don't see the one in Jodi's.
I Love butterflies! I have 4 pictures of butterflies hanging over my bed at home that I did several years ago in watercolor.Some of my first watercolor experiments.One is that same butterfly.I have had people see them and ask if they were real.I don't know what it is about them that fascinates me but they do.

Vetaal...is that cow parsley also known as hogweed? If so it has been on our local news lately warning people that it is invasive and poisonous. The sap apparently can cause burns on the skin. We were on a garden tour today and saw some.
Lilliepad I'd love to see your paintings...I too love butterflies, just got some butterfly weed today from a fellow gardener!

Taigen, have you got Hogweed there too??? It's here as well, sucker grows 10 feet tall and his hazardous....the sap can cause severe burns and blisters. Do you think animals could eat it?

Taigen - yes, hogweed and cow parsley are one and the same (Heracleum family). It is invasive. But only some species are poisonous. They burn not unlike the stinging nettle.
Some are edible and taste rather good, I grew up eating them and making flutes from the stalkes to play.

Jasdip & Vetaal...yes we have it here. Apparently it has been here for a time but has suddenly made quite a surge. We have been warned that this species can burn the skin and we should report any findings to our local authorities if on public land. If it is on private property it should be removed by a weed company with protective clothing. It sure is pretty though!
