$10 for the hike ... a steal! When we were on the cruise in Alaska last month one of the couples at our table partied a little too hard the night before we docked in Sitka and called at 7am to ask if we'd like to go on a hike while in town. We said sure. A 15 min bus ride to a national forest and a four mile hike cost them just under $90 each for the hike and a light snack (bottle of water and a chocolate bar)! Beautiful flowers, Karen, what is that?? DH and I went to "sky rock" Sunday, steep climb, but he pulled me all the way up. Quite a view.

Beautiful flowers. I wish I could grow lupines. Never had any luck.
I love artichokes, that is why I grow them, but they come in all at once.

That is one gorgeous artichoke crop! Everything's a trade-off . . . I can grow lupines, but not artichokes. Actually, we did grow them one year, but they were a smaller, short-season variety. ANow I can't eat them anyway, so I guess I shouldn't feel bad about not being able to grow them. But yours look fabulous, Clare.

Sorry I don't know what the flower is, it was at the Botanical Gardens. It's pretty tiny.

irishdancersgram, Sky rock is in WV, near Morgantown. It's at Dorsey's Knob, off RT 119, mainly a small lodge, picnic area and steep climb up the hill to the rock, basically a small area, but great view!

alisande - Thanks. Why can't you eat artichokes? And what area are you in? Do you have a short growing season?

Clare, I'm in the northeast, Zone 4b. Our growing season is fairly short. I had to give up artichokes (that was painful!) because they contain solanine. I react badly (with neurological symptoms) to solanine, which is also in tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, potatoes, okra, and (sigh) blueberries.

alisande - So sad, I would hate to have to give up all those things except for okra. That would be super easy to give up though. LOL I am originally from Massachusetts and I sure do miss the blueberries. The ones from Oregon, no offense to those in Oregon, aren't as good.
