Thank you for your reply. I am just guessing at the mosaic virus diagnosis because the leaves are deformed. Also, my runner beans for sure have some type of mosaic virus, and I think they are all ruined. I am not sure if that is something that can spread between species or not? We don't use any herbicide in our yard or garden and the placement of the garden is pretty far from our neighbors. This same thing happened to my cucumber vines last year planted in a completely different location and completely different seeds. This is such a puzzle, but I am hoping they are not ruined. I am conflicted between taking out the affected vines and trying to save what I can or seeing what happens. The picture below shows the vines as they started. The picture of the deformed leaf is the newest growth. I will try to get some pictures showing the whole area tomorrow. Thanks again for brainstorming with me!

Leafminers. Part of the life cycle is in the soil. So, next time you plant, do so in an entirely different place and immediately use row cover to protect them from the egg-laying adults.

I'm not exactly sure how long 'Firepower' holds on to its leaves. You're in what, zone 7b? I'm guess at least for two seasons. They'll only be chartreuse when they first emerge. Then in cold of winter they turn red. When it warms the following spring they simmer down to a normal green. They 'might' just get a red tinge again if they last into the next winter, but they never turn chartreuse again.

Some plants, regardless of state of leaf senescence, or calendar date, simply don't move well in the fall. Fleshy-rooted species like Magnolias, Liriodendron, and many more, tend to not do well when moved in the fall. Also, the term "dormancy" is a bit misleading. Abscissic acid, a plant hormone responsible for making changes in leaves and petioles such that they may fall off in the fall, is disrupted when the plants are tussled with too soon. I'd suggest a dollop of patience for what can be done in the spring anyway. Not at all saying don't plant or move stuff in the fall, but do your research: Some species do not do well under this scenario. +om
