Those shots are taken with a Pentax ist DL (6.3mp) shooting in JPEG mode, however when my new Pentax K20d (14mp) arrives I will be using all my existing Pentax lenses on that one as well. The only downside to using the Pentax film camera lenses on the digitals is that it increases the effective focal length 1.5 times, thus a 300mm film camera lens on the digital yields a focal length equivalent to a 450mm on a film camera.

It's amazing that 'White' has so many colors! I just don't see why it would be so noticeable next to white! The living room is the most noticeable, so we are going to play with different light bulbs, as I think that has something to do with it. I like the Soft-lite window the best of all, so I hate for color to be the reason we don't get them. You may have hit the heat on the head! We have the most insulation upstairs we could put, but it is a story and a half house, so there isn't much space between the roof and inside. But, the house faces east and the back is in the west. Even with shades underneath, the curtains get faded easily, so we know the sun is baking through. The dealer says regular Low E should be enough, but my husband wants to get Solar Low E, which for the whole house would be another $532. So, I'm just wondering if Solar E is overkill in Tennessee. Seems like the deep south would definitely need it. Thanks for fast reply.

Loaded question indeed. I think the key here is your confidence-some people can mix anything with anything, some can't. I personally don't feel cool requires chrome, or warm requires gold or brass..Some counterbalance can be very nice too. The warmth can get the best out of the cool background, and vice versa. It's a beautiful house. I think the most important things in the hardware and fixture is how they are made..rather than the finish itself. Good thing will feel and look good, regardless of the finish. Do try not to get to complete jumble of course, things should make sense even when different. But don't worry over it too much. You'll pull it off. I know, easier said than done))

Sure, you can, as long as the you have enough cans within the space and the wattage is high enough/strong enough. By that I mean I wouldn’t put in 45 or 60 watt equivalent cans (assuming you’re doing LEDs) and expect it to be good enough, but at 100w with (dimmable) LED cans in front of the cabinets, over the sink, and over the peninsula you should be fine. Just make sure not to skip putting them in over the walkway area, in front of the fridge, etc. You cant just put in a couple cans over the peninsula and one over the sink and get enough light. Work with your electrician to ensure you have a plan for the space that will provide enough light and you’ll be fine. We skipped pendants over our island (so as not to break up the visual flow) and just did all LED cans/pucks and we have more than enough light for all types of tasks.

Very pretty, RC...I love gardens and the camera for pics like these...

I haven't taken much of the garden as a whole as I'm still trying to fill in and looks 'somewhat' bare but got some nice macros and close up shots...

But your beds are usually just beautiful!

RC how did you get that gorgeous shot? I'm going back thru some older threads and came across this one. Did you get this effect thru camera settings or did you use software? Simply stunning!!!

Well, I'm glad you liked it Bean counter.

To answer your question, the primary effect is what Picasa calls "soft focus". You can adjust both the amount of the softening effect and the size.

Of course, the brightness in the upper corner came from the sun getting low and streaming in from that upper corner. The fence provided shade.

Its been a while since I took that one and edited on it. I could have bumped up the shadow function a little, I forget.

Here's another one your "reminder" post led to bean counter. It didn't turn out quite as well, but, I did the soft focus, bumped up the shadow and added some sharpness.

rc, I love it. The photo conveys more mood than information--if you know what I mean. It also has a little mystery. Kind of makes you want to peak behind the curtain and see what's hidden just out of focus.

I can see myself using that to hide some little imperfections that distract from the photo's message. I played around with Elements and tried to get a similar effect. Couldn't do it. On to Picasa. Thanks
