I have a 48" Blue Star cooktop w/ griddle. I love the high 22K BTU burners. The cooktop arrived with both 22K burners in the front. I wanted one 22K BTU in the back near the center to boil water and improve steam capture. The other big burner is fine in the front for my wok. To change the front burner to the back requires removal of the bowls and grates to expose the burners and tubes. Next pull out the burners and venturi tubes by a backward and up motion. Then turn the burners (attached to the tubes) up-side-down and unscrew two phillips screws on the back of the burner. Do the same to the 15K BTU burner with the longer tube(in the back). Attach the big burner to the back venturi tube and the 15K burner to the front tube. You can leave the gaskets in place since they are the same. Now you must change the orifices for each burner. The orifice fittings are located in the front. The orifice is a brass fitting that is screwed onto the end of the valve. The orifice fitting is exposed when you remove the venturi tube. Orifice removal requires a socket wrench with an extension to undo the fitting from the valve. The 22K burner has a larger orifice and has to match the burner to give sufficient flow of gas. The valves are all the same but the orifices must match the burner BTU size. I think this procedure will make you enjoy your Blue Star more. I also adjusted the low flame by turning a set screw in the stem of the valve. Remove the black knob. Give it a hard straight pull or wiggle it to get it off. Move the valve to the low setting. Then with a small straight slot screw driver turn the set screw clockwise to lower the flame just before the sparking device starts clicking. You can turn it counterclockwise if you go too far to get the perfect setting. Don't try this with a griddle burner since it is only a on-off valve that is controlled by a thermostat and switch. You can do this and you will be pleased with the results. Most gas stoves operate on the same priciple. If you have no clue about the process call an expert to do it.

Looks like quite a nice house...glad it found an old house lover to take good care of it. There is an incredible amount of labor in redoing an old house. I tell people that you have to really love an old house otherwise you will hate it. Trust me, right now I'm in the hate it phase of redoing endless amounts of trim...Who said french doors and 6 over 6 windows were such a nice feature? I like your wall color; it is similar to my new house project. I mix mine from white paint and miscellaneous tints but aim for something around that color. I have found that light blue/green/gray is an excellent choice in houses with a mix of stained trim and white. To my eye, many colors of beige just don't show off well against wood trim Ambiguous is a good description...depends on the lighting. From the vantage point of the dining room, looking through the hallway into the back bedroom, the paint appears to be two different shades. Just like my floor where the exact same stain is used on both sides of the line where living room meets dining room...looks like a totally different floor color depending on the viewpoint.

Hi Lilyfinch - I once received a rose from Heirloom where all the canes looked like your first photo only the blackened portion was even greater. I sent them a photo and they refunded my money because it was clear that the rose wasn't going to make it and they didn't have any more in stock. I don't know what causes this to happen. You might be able to root a cutting from the top but I don't think you should have to. The vendor should replace it or give you a refund. Blue For You is a lovely rose. Mine was one of the first three roses to bloom this spring and is finishing up now. Ann

@thinkdesignlive I had no idea that the blues I'd picked out had red in them. I have been in touch with a Sherwin Williams color consultant, and will probably buy paints from her/ get her advice about actual paint colors when it comes to that. She'd also suggested figuring out the countertop first, in order to get it to work with the floor, before thinking about paint colors -- and she was the one who actually mentioned (an unspecified shade of) blue to go with the floor. The other half of my kitchen has a lot of bright colors, so that's another thing to keep in mind. I'd prefer not to have a totally solid color -- after all, butcher block would look nice (right?) and isn't solid. In terms of less busy stone, what about a Aspen White granite or a quartz with a more subtle veining pattern? We've seen Taj Mahal in both quartz and quartzite and though it would probably work very well, hadn't felt drawn to it. I also am liking some of the quartzes with subtle veining (see the top left four little squares in the first picture in the original post) -- would something like that be too busy, and/or are there granite or other natural stone options that are similar (if we decide to go the natural stone route)? I also found this suggestion on Houzz of a less-busy granite that might work with a slate floor - thoughts? -- I do have the beginnings of an idea book, here and on Pinterest -- here are a couple of links to ones I particularly like: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/307863324533778336/ I love the blue cabinets with the slate floor! Although we are probably going with a stainless farmhouse sink. Notice the white-is countertop: wonder what material that is? http://pinterest.com/pin/15621929927201978/ Interesting how they offset the look with a blue/butcher block island and white cabinets. We don't have the option of an island as contrast, so I wonder how this could be incorporated. Thanks, @thinkdesignlive and everyone else!
