That's the pits. Everyone should be sure wear slippers or shoes for a few days. Sometimes the glass just seems to keep coming back.

Glad to hear everyone is alright. Never witness one blowing up, just cracking - I was the DD in that instance! Easy mistake when a kitchen is bustling.

O boy, I remember that mess.....twice.
I had a pyrex dish sitting on the stove and accidentally turned on the wrong eye, meaning to heat another pot. The second time, a pyrex dish exploded in the oven. Now that one wasn't fair! LOL

Glad no one was hurt. Honestly, you're going to be finding glass for what will seem forever.

Sorry this happened to you. It happened to me once when I took a hot glass dish from the oven and set it on a warm burner. Thankfully, my DD (2 at the time) was not in the kitchen when it blew.

Not in that way but i put a glass bowl inside of a metal one and was putting it up in cupboard and accidentally hit
the edge up cabinet. The vibration in metal dish caused glass one to shatter and i was in hurry when doing it so my hand was in way it sliced bottom half of thumb to the bone. Just so odd the way it happened. Have never ever put glass in metal again. Just never thought something like that happening.

I've never done that (although I have plenty of other "oops") but I remember one time we were at a friend's after church one Sunday evening and she was heating rotel dip in her crockpot. Another lady came along and was trying to help so she removed the crock from the pot and set it on the stove and turned it on. That thing broke and cheese went everywhere.

I had a pot roast in a pyrex pan, and it suddenly just broke, spewing roast, juice, and vegetables all over the oven.

I set a pyrex on the stove and turned on the wrong burner (sounds like it is easy to do, doesn't it!)

What a mess that was- and it burnt my floor vinyl floor where it landed - I still have spots - not too many, but a few.

Oh my... It hasn't happened to me yet. I use Pyrex glass containers often and used to place them on the burners to cool them down after taking them out from the oven. Because of possible accident such as these, I installed granite countertop so I could put hot items right on the countetop without afraid of damage.

I'm sure glad to know no one is hurt with your incident and your heart beat is normal now. That's good to hear =o)

MANY (probably 20 now) years ago, my step-monster had heated up the butter in a Pyrex glass measuring cup....as had been done for MANY years...for our Christmas Lutefisk! My brother-in-law was the UNlucky person to have the bottom completly drop out of it right over his lap...with that butter going everywhere!!! Luckily, he had on new blue jeans and it didn't burn him!

Oh my that had to be a mess that would make a grown woman cry.
I came home to my dishwasher which I had left running, making a terrible rattling noise. Opened it to see what was going on and found that a glass lid from a skillet had shattered in tiny little pieces. We had to have a repairman come clean it out.

Yep it was quite the mess, can't say I've ever seen that much broken glass ever before...thanks for all the kind words and comments...
have to be careful for the next while, there was glass in my coffee this morning!

Everyone knows....except my friend Pam...that you don't put a hot Pyrex dish on a cold counter top. My wonderful lasagna was blown up all over the kitchen.

The next morning She put cold water in my hot Pyrex coffee pot. You guest it! Glass bottom fell out.

Some people don't get the science of glass.

But, nothing beats my Mom warming food in a plastic bowl. That clean up was a real doozy.

Gayle, thanks for the reminder. My granite countertop is cool but not cold for the weather here in Houston doesn't get that cold often and when it does, I keep the heat up in the house (I'm a lizard). However, that is a good reminder to watch for. Thanks!!!

My mother gave me a set of Pyrex cooking pots and I managed to break all four. Not on the stove, just by being clumsy!

Just a funny story about my late DMIL....She always kept cookies in a tupperware container in the oven...Well, you guessed it, one day, the oven got turned on and the tupperware melted...Not telling anyone, she put this melted "thing" out on her back porch and asked everyone what they thought it was.....No one guessed it was at one time a container full of cookies....It really looked like a piece of art...We've often talked about Gram and her taste in art.....

Glad no one got hurt, just a thought--use a wet (damp) paper town and wipe the floor. That could pick up tiny slivers you cannot see---just be careful, and DO NOT squeeze the towel.

Sandy's story reminded me of when my SIL handed her ex-DH a cup of hot coffee and the handle on the glass mug fell off. The coffee went all over his lap and all over her new chair.
