My babies are scared to death!

They've already started with the fireworks, BIG, LOUD ones. Any tips to settle them any? I have the TV loud, but they still hear them.

MY Rover is scared to death too...he pants and shakes,it's terrible! We just now gave him a benedryl to calm him down when the fireworks start soon.I don't know what else to do,except hold them and maybe cover them.I know it helps some if I cover Rover so he thinks he's hiding.Him and I lay on the couch under the cover and cuddle! LOL!

Fireworks started early here.
I'll soon be sleeping and won't hear the 12 fireworks celebrations :o)

Thanks for replying! I took the plant out of its pot this evening, and it was obvious that it had been badly over-watered. The one leaf that was starting to yellow came off, rotten at the base. The moss it was potted in was packed extremely tightly around the roots, almost all of which had rotted. So now I have a plant with one leaf and a few roots that I think are healthy. I put it in a new clay pot, in Better-Gro's Special Orchid Mix, that looks like bark and wood chunks. My instinct tells me not to feed this plant, but to water it just enough to moisten the potting mix and mist the one remaining leaf. I don't know what to do about the flower stalk. The top half is brown and shriveled, but the bottom half looks healthy. Should I remove it? We have African violets and gloxinias under lights. Would that be too much light for this plant now? I could make a spot for it on a book shelf about 4 or 5 feet away from the plant stand where it would still get some light, much lower intensity. Do you think there's any hope for this plant? It sounds like something happened to both parents. There are bird rescuers. Did you read the link on the home page here about what to do in an emergency. Hope it's not too late. I have had a male raise a batch of young ones and last year it was a female that raised a batch. I never have more than one batch a year here in Michigan.

1st (teaching) job interview in 10yrs (and I'm scared to death!)

Well, they just called today and I didn't get the job. Boo hoo but just teeny tiny boo hoo because I wasn't really sure I wanted to go back to work. This job this time next year would have been ideal. I had a really good talk with the principal when she called to tell me and the other woman with all the experience got the job. She was really encouraging about applying for future positions which is very reassuring. In the meantime, I can actually have time all to myself for the first time in 8yrs! I just realized when I was contemplating the unruliness of my hair that I can actually make a hair appt without calling 3 different people trying to arrange someone to watch one or both of the kids. OMG, I can sign up for a yoga class! And DH is satisfied because I did actually try to get work. I've got calls out to a couple of teacher friends to see what they recommend for getting some more experience teaching reading (the principal said this would be a good thing to work on). So all in all, I think this will work out for the best. I can still substitute and tutor for extra cash - we won't be getting that new car but that can definately wait. Thanks again everyone for keeping me company during this experience. I really appreciated your good wishes and support.

Too cold for fireworks here, 8 below and dropping with still lots of white stuff.

for once our girls are not freaking out but we did close up the windows and sliding doors. we did power walk them at 6pm to make sure they would nap too. early celebrators have been going since 6pm est. but rain is on the way YEAH lol ~ liz

Sorry your babies are scared. We don't have local fireworks on this occasion, but when they do our big dogs try to hide under the bed.

We heard fireworks from about 11:45 to midniught, our poor Molly was scared. But she sleeps in our room year-round so she calmed down immediately after it stopped.

How'd they make it through last night? We gave Rover a benadryl to see if it helped and it did seem to.He was still a little scared but not near like he usually is.He wasn't panting at least.He did shake some and wanted to go to bed.We left him go to bed by himself and when it was over,he came back down.He's the biggest dog I have ad the biggest woose! LOL! The little ones don't even notice storms or fireworks.In fact Miss Emmie used to be my biggest chicken,and she kept running outside and barking at the fireworks! We have a doggie door and it was in a lot of use last nighgt! LOL!
