My gift from GS: it's flat and oval

DS told me to make a big TO DO over it! ha ha ha

GS asked me, last week, when we were out and about, what I wanted for Christmas.

NEW toilet seat for my bathroom.

Guess that's what I'm getting :o)

why did my cherry tomatoes turn oval-shaped?

    Q

    Comments (4)
Oh yeah, mislabeling happens all the time. Its pretty easy to do when pretty much all tomatoes and peppers look identical until they actually put out fruit. If you aren't 100% careful when working with them, it only takes one instance of "Wait, is that flat I just put down supposed to be X or Y?" and there's no way to tell. True story, I bought 4 "ghost pepper" plants at a nursery this season. I normally grow my own from seed, but figured "Hey, uber cheap ghost peppers!" and bought some. I got 4 different kinds of pepper, none of which were bhut jolokias.

    My Early Valentine's Gift...Stephanotis!

    Q

I have purchased several stephanotis floribunda over the years. They are usually sold in pots which have become too small for them so I put each in a larger pot not long after purchasing. Almost immediately, the leaves begin to become dull and flat (not shiny) and become kind of spotted (yellow and greenish-yellow). Then they become all yellow and fall off. With each attempt to make one of these plants survive, I have tried different strategies. Less water, to the point of dryness--same problem. More moist soil--same problem. Different soils--more peat, more perlite, less peat, whatever. Always the exact same situation. Each one was in a south facing window in Maryland, with normal indoor temperature. Humidity never below about 45%. I am not a clutz with plants. I have never had a plant which I have tried harder to please, and yet with more consistently baffling failure. Any thoughts, speculation, suggestions, or just plain pity would be welcome.

How to get better privacy If my entry door has oval fiberglass?

    Q

    Comments (4)
I have used privacy film that you can get in places like Home Depot and Lowe's for flat glass in doors. But I had a similar situation to yours in a 1/2 bath that has a patio and grilling area outside. It's in my daylight basement. This is a before picture of the stained glass. If you look closely through the clear circle of glass, you can see the black grill cover on the left, my lawn and even the river at the edge of my property. This is after I took some 'clear' contact paper, (which is actually translucent) peeled off the backing and laid it over the clear glass areas. I pressed it in and cut it to fit the clear areas with a small razor knife. It was quick and easy and looks like frosted glass now. You'd never know that those areas of the glass didn't start out that way.

That's great, a gift he will enjoy for many years! I like that, not many kids can remember what they got last year. He will remember this Christmas forever! When our kids quit believing in Santa we would ask them if they wanted regular Christmas or a trip. They are 27 and 32 now and still remember the trips. Now, we are starting that with the little grandsons.

NO TOILET SEAT! and I NEEDED a new one!

I am sorry. It's just now what it was "cracked up" to be!

so... what was in the package?

    Sooooooo did it fit????????

    Nothing flat and oval.
Guess it was just a tease from DS!

Hugs, big hugs! That was it. I appreciated that.

?????? Your son told you to make a big deal over your grandson giving you big hugs because he didn't get you a gift?

Doesn't your grandson give you hugs every time you see him anyway?

oh well, it's all rather odd 'n confusing. O_o

Glenda let's get this straight you didn't get anything from GS? What we would call a gift -something with shape nd form and weight? just some hugs? not saying that is bad just want it cleared up....

Did he not get you a gift Glenda? Hugs he can give you anytime.
I would have hoped your son and his new wife would have seen to it that you got something.
I'm sure you pretend you don't care, but how can you not care.
It must hurt you terribly the way they treat you. It seems that many times you seem to be on the bottom of their list of priorities. How sad that is.
In the pictures of Parke Jr getting his gift I noticed your DIL laying on the floor. She doesn't look like she was enjoying it much.

    imina, you are misreading lots.
Hugs from GS were memory makers, and I'll enjoy, this weekend, when weather warms up to experience his delight with his fishing boat.

I live in a small condo, living room is small, and had the fireplace with a fire going, so that is where she and DH delight, as the custom of laying in front of the fireplace.

DIL was into the gift giving of the boat, as we went into my bedroom to decide, due to the weather, and our not being able to go to the lake, on sending PJR out to the car to find his trolling motor.

She and I have our differences, but she made the day in helping me get GS out to the car, etc.

Although her look, laying on the floor in front of the fireplace, you took as disinterested, she was NOT.

You have to know the circumstances, and the happenings in my little abode.

So refrain from the critical element.

Yes, GS, did not give me a gift, but the hugs and love he gave me was suffice.

The experience of MY giving him something he so wanted, makes my heart melt and I know he will remember what his grandmother gave him for many years to come.

GS knows and appreciates his grandmother and loves me back in his own way.

Yes, I am disappointed at times, but a grandmothers love has to accept the fact. I KNOW he loves me and that is what counts.

Criticism is not appreciated, imina . You do not walk in my shoes.

If U cannot say anything nice about my gift giving DONT, darn it.

I did what I did and that is it, pure and simple!

    Leave me alone!

Gee Glenda, I did not criticize you, nor was I critical of your day.
I was being sympathetic to the situation. Did you not get that.
Why are you so defensive? You had no reason to be.
I think most people at KT know of your relationship with your son and his wife and know that it is, at times, strained.
It is not our place to judge your relationships.
No need to get in a huff Glenda.

I think your hugs are the best gift you could have gotten. Right size, don't have to worry about where to put something you don't really need. The memory of them will keep you warm on these cold winter nights. Enough said. My hugs from my GD are the best. Having her here for Christmas was my best gift, and she's here til the end of Jan.! She's 2, so much fun.

I have to say something here..and it's really none of my business, because I don't have a dog in the fight! But, when will people realize that "gifts" do not have to be bought, wrapped in pretty paper, with a beautiful bow on top? A person shouldn't give with the expectation of getting something in return. That's exactly the reason several people were marked off my "gotta give a gift to" list this year! *S* I'd say Glenda received HER gift by watching her GS get HIS gift from her! Can't replace that with something bought at the store!

I would have loved (and been very happy) with a hug from my Grandchildren..but that wasn't possible. They live in GA! But, I know my Grandkids love me!

MY son asked me what I wanted for Christmas and guess what I told him? I wanted him and his girlfriend to take me to a new frozen yogurt place that recently opened here! He thought I was kidding! I wasn't! I wanted something that couldn't be broken, didn't need dusting..and something that no one could steal from me..and that's TIME with my son and his girlfriend!

Some people are just hard to please...others aren't!

Hey Glenda I only asked in the spirit of the thread. Hugs are the most imeportant thing and I wish I could get a hug from my DS who drowned in 2000.It was only cause the thread got so wild there for a time. I didn't mean to offend should have kept my big mouth shut as my mom used to say!!

imina , your response was not appreciated and I did not get in a huff. You made me defensive for what I did. Leave it be, please.

Minnie, I have always appreciated your responses and thank you and I took of no offense. I like you! Enough said.

The hug and love says it ALL

I love these photos and they will be family favorites as the years go by. I still see the resemblence I think it's his chin !!

As long as Glenda's happy, that's all that matters. And judging from the pictures, she's really, really happy! I don't think a toilet seat would put that look of joy on her face, do you?

Glenda, what sweet, heartwarming pictures. PJR is getting so tall. I envy you getting grandson hugs for Christmas. My dd and two grandkids who live in NC weren't able to be here for Christmas and I would have loved to get embraces from them. Treasure the relationship you have with Parke Jr. I know for a fact that he adores you.

I am a Grandma, my grandchildren do not give me gifts in the form some of you are talking. They too give me the gift of their unconditional love!! That is a wonderful thing let me tell you! As a Grandma there is NOTHING better!
Who says a child HAS to give a "gift" that is wrapped and in a box??
There is no need for it!
The gift of a child's love is totally priceless!! IF you have that love you have it all!!!!!!!!! There is no gift wrapped and handed to you that can compare!! None.
I don't understand WHY someone would choose to attack Glenda over this at all!

    Glenda, I'm with you!
Have to tell you about my GIFT last nite!

My Step GS goes to school in Paris & I haven't seen him for 2 yrs--He's home for a wk & last nite he called & said he wanted to see me! DUH, he's 22 & I know he wants to prolly spend time with his friends, but he came over & gave me the biggest hug!

That was his gift to me & it beat all the material gifts I received!

    Treasure your time with PJR--

    Donna (^_^)

Imina, you may not have meant anything by what you posted but I took it the same way Glenda did. There was no need to criticize her or her family. I personally know Glenda and I know that nothing means more to her than her DS and DGS. Glenda is a very generous lady and it gives her great pleasure to give a gift that means so much.

I can't believe I am reading this! Glenda, you are an incredible Grandmother. Your GS obviously feels the same way.
    Enjoy!

Imina,I also read the same into your post as others did.Maybe proof reading before hitting the send button would help??? Maybe you didn't mean it the way it sounded but why would you even bring up Glenda's relationship with her DS and DDIL or how her DDIL "looked" in the picture unless you intended sarcasm? We all get caught in moments when photos are being taken that we don't particularly feel like the life of the party. You should see the ones of me Christmas day! I may have looked unhappy but I certainly was not and I threatened DDIL within an inch of her life if she posted any of them anywhere! LOL
Glenda, the smile on your face and your DGS's face is worth more than anything money can buy! You are a good grandmother!

My son didn't give my parents anything for Christmas, and come to think of it, nor did I.

But Glenda, give your DS a gentle SMACK on his head for setting you up.

Can't believe how much your GS has matured. He's a nice looking young man.

By the way Glenda. What is that picture over your DGS's left shoulder in the second picture? Looks like a crocheted doily????

I did not read anything mean in what Imina posted. In fact, I truly believe she meant it in a kind-hearted way. I was also perplexed about the lack of gift after the post about what the gift was going to be. (Too bad Glenda was led to believe something that was untrue.) I do think that the responses were harsh and less than mature, and in fact, I believe Imina deserves an apology.

Glenda, I am glad that the hugs and the joy you have from giving your DGS his gift gave you so much pleasure...that is what I's all about! That would have given me much to smile about too!

I have to agree with Houstonmom. I don't think Imina meant anything bad by her post. I think there was a lot of over reaction here by some.

It was a bit confusing. Glenda posted that there was a gift that was flat and oblong in her OP and now she says there was no gift? Or there was nothing in the gift? Was it an empty box?

You can't blame peeps for being confused. There was no reason for Glenda to get so angry when some were just trying to understand what the gift was.

To begin with, the thread was meant in fun and it was taken in fun UNTIL those that like to turn threads in the opposite direction.

Most everyone was enjoying adding their funny comments which led to my saying this: This is what is great about the KT! The responses were hilarious and appreciated.

    ---------------------------------------------------

I did not say that GS was getting me the toilet seat, if I did it was unintentional, and I said : DS told me to make a big TO DO over it! ha ha ha
GS asked me, last week, when we were out and about, what I wanted for Christmas.

NEW toilet seat for my bathroom.

    Guess that's what I'm getting :o)
    __________________________________________

Instead I did get mighty nice gifts, an expensive Brighton purse and Vera Wang perfume, with all of the family names on the gift tag.

No, I will NOT apologize and no one else should either.

Someone went looking at the slideshow I posted of my gift to GS and went nitpicking at what they saw.

WHAT STARTED OUT AS A CUTE FUN THREAD JUST WENT DOWN THE TOILET

    bah humbug

hugs are always GREAT, they are always wanted, always fit just right, always the right size....but the best thing you can enjoy, then give it back and enjoy again...

Glenda, it's wonderful that Parke, Jr. enjoyed his gift so much and you enjoyed giving it.

With respect to this thread, you were asked several times what he did give you, since your son intimated that GS was going to give you a toilet seat (at least that's the way your OP reads). Your answer was "Hugs, big hugs! That was it. I appreciated that."

    You said "that was it".

IMO it was that answer that took this thread down. Some people, myself included, felt bad for you that you were looking forward to laughing about a toilet seat (and I would've laughed, too!) and instead got a hug (in response to a very generous and loving gift). Now we know that you got lovely gifts with tags with all of their names on them; that's wonderful.

I'm not meaning this to criticize you but so that you realize that your response give several of us a different, and now we realize, erroneous idea of the real answer.

I'm glad that you're happy with your Christmas Day.

I agree with what Suzieque posted. You're an instigator, Glenda, whether you realize it or not. Many times you have posted something vague, and when folks ask questions, you get your tail feathers up and come out swinging.

I agree, hugs are wonderful, and are to be cherished, remembered, and kept close to the heart. But your grandson would have given you huge, happy, loving, heartfelt hugs in response to your gift to him even if he'd given you a gift (cheap gift or expensive gift, or somewhere in between). His hugs in those photographs were in response to the fishing boat you gave him -- they should not have been, and I don't believe they were - his Christmas gift to you.

It's even posted, somewhere not too far above:

"Posted by glenda_al (My Page) on Tue, Dec 28, 10 at 23:20

If U cannot say anything nice about my gift giving DONT, darn it.

I did what I did and that is it, pure and simple!

    Leave me alone!"

So, you were all huffy about perceived reactions to YOU GIVING A GIFT TO YOUR GRANDSON, when, in fact, this entire discussion was started by you with the subject line My gift from GS: it's flat and oval

And you could have easily avoided a whole lot of this if, when you finally responded to all of the requests to find out what it was that your grandson gave you, you had said something like, "he, his father, and his stepmother all gave me..." and said what those gift were. Instead, your response as to what your grandson gave you was this:

"Hugs, big hugs! That was it. I appreciated that."

It's really not fair to call foul when you started it.

I hadn't even read this thread til today, then had to read the whole darn thing! The puns were very funny, and Glenda, your grandson is a handsome young man. Hugs from him would be very special, IMO.

We never know how what we write may be interpreted by another; my intended "witticism" may be taken as "criticism" -- sometimes it's better not to post at all.

Early on, I was thinking of opining that such would be, " ... the gift that keeps on giving ...", and was trying to think up an addition.

But ... now that seems to be out in left field, somewhere.

Actually ... when one gets to be 80 ... who needs more STUFF ...

... except for a toilet seat - one does need that, when indicated.

And, come to think of it, mine is a plastic one, with a plastic coating, that's coming unstuck, so it attracts dirt ...

... DARN! I should have hinted that I could use a replacement (before Christmas, that is).

But ... I don't have a grandson (or a granddaughter, either, for that matter).

Hope you all have a great New Year.

    ole joyful

P.S. Maybe the extra comment that I was thinking about could have been, "No shi!"!

And then ... there's been some of it that hit the fan in parts of this thread.

(I can see some justification in each of the opposing viewpoints.)

    o j

you all know what...I tried to stay out of this...

But my take on it...is....gift or no gift...It was No One's Business to ask. There was no need for any of us to know what she got. If she wanted any of us to know...she would/could have told us.

Even if you all think she started it by stating she got a Hug...she should not have been badgered.

It was confusing to me too but I loved the funny responses, even the groaners! real PUNishment!
