It's a shame, isn't it? She's just one of many who had these procedures done in an effort to look good, but end up looking weird.

What a shame that some of these celebs chase youth, what fragile egos they must have. The one I think looks so horrible is Kenny Rodgers.

Were I inclined to have plastic surgery (which I'm not), looking at celebrities like Marlo Thomas (and Priscilla Presley) would dissuade me. If people like them - who have tons of money and their choice of the best surgeons - can't get it right, what possible chance would I have?

Priscilla Presley didn't "go to" a plastic surgeon the way one normally thinks of "going to" one -- as in going to the office for a consultation, then having a scheduled procedure. She went to a friend's house during the time when it was "in" to go to "Botox Parties" at someone's home. The "hostess" would invite friends to her home, and a doctor would be there to give Botox injections to those who wanted them. It helped maintain a bit of privacy for celebs and wives/girlfriends of celebs, so that they wouldn't be spotted by the paparazzi go into or coming out of the doctor's office.

The problem was that the man who purported to be the doctor wasn't a doctor -- he was a nurse, but he wasn't licensed in California. And he wasn't injecting Botox. He injected silicone, but it wasn't even medical-grade silicone. He injected Priscilla Presley's face with industrial grade silicone, which gets very hard.

Give the woman a break. Marlo Thomas is 73 years old. No one is going to look sleek at that age.

As an actress Marlo portrayed a very liberated, independent, young, working woman. A lot of young girls at the time looked up to her character in 'That Girl' as a positive roll model. Her personal life was one of clean living and she was never linked to Hollywood partying gossip.

Actually, she didn't look so great with her Daddy's nose back in the 50's. Once she had that fixed, her career took off, with a little more help from her father, Danny Thomas.

It looks like she's had her nose done a couple of times. Now her nostrils are so pinched looking, it's unnatural. Just like looking this firm and tight and shiny is unnatural, at 70 something. Usually when I come across her on TV, I recognize her voice before her face. Also, having never had children, I think that makes it easier to look good longer, child-bearing is very hard on a woman's body. And being rich sure doesn't hurt!

Being in the spotlight all the time, though, would certainly add to the pressure for a woman to try to always look fabulous. I feel sorry for people who have to try that hard, all the time, to look wonderful for the camera. It must be very nerve-wracking to know that you don't dare just throw on some sweats and make a dash to the store for something, because you'll end up on the cover of the Enquirer as near death or something. lol

I greatly admire Marlo, because of what DD said about her clean living. I've seen a bio on her and I've seen her on other hows and I think she is a very kind woman.

She chose her looks - it makes her feel good - she and her husband look happy - case closed...

Whatever happened to "aging gracefully"?

I don't think anyone was trying to insult her . . . we were saying it's a shame when efforts to look younger produce questionable results.

She does look good in the pictures above, but I've seen her looking decidedly odd, especially when speaking.

Flamingo, I remember when she got her nose job. I was a kid at the time, and I said to someone, "But her children are going to have her old nose!" :-)

If we all had her money and had the plastic surgeries that she had we'd probably look that good when we were her age as well. That really was a silly statement on your part.

She does have siblings. Sister Terre and brother Tony. And she never had children. Her name used to be Margaret, I think.

The children of Danny Thomas are also performers, the most famous is, Marlo, former actress and now Outreaach Director of Jt Judes's Children's Hospital where her father was also very passionately involved. Her brother, Tony Thomas, is a television producer, and another sister, Terre Thomas, is a former actress.Marlo has been married to talk show host Phil Donahue since 1980. She has no children, but is stepmother to Donahue's five children from his previous marriage.

I find it kind of disappointing when people alter their faces that much. When Faye Dunaway fixed her face it didn't look like her anymore. It seems like when people do that they take away their distinctiveness (?).

After having recent surgery, I would have to say I don't care now much money I have, I don't EVER want surgery again!!! I can't imagine how painful it must be.

That's too bad about Priscilla Presley. I never understood those Botox parties. I don't understand Botox. It's some kind of pig poison, right? Well, women through the ages have gone through similarly painful procedures all in the name of beauty.

It's not only aging celebraties who make this mistake. Look at Jennifer Grey. She had her nose fixed after Dirty Dancing and it completely changed her looks and probably had an impact on her career.

I didn't find your statement silly in the least and I'm surprised that someone would make that comment. Marlo Thomas is still a darn good looking woman. The hows and whys of it really don't matter much.

not silly at all, not really even a "statement", just an invitation to posters to put their pics out there.

Silly? How? Anyone who publicly bashes someone over something like their appearance, should set the example and show us what real beauty is. Lots of posters here have gotten plastic surgery and a lot have never had it, so the invitation was extended to those with or without expensive cosmetic updates.

It's a shame Marlo had to change her look in order to launch an acting career. There was not a demand for those with strong ethnic or exotic looks back in the 1950s. Danny Kaye had to bleach his hair so that he did not look so Jewish. Goldwyn wanted Danny to alter his looks with rhinoplasty. When Danny refused, Goldwyn demanded that Danny bleach his hair to blond, which he did. Such a shame. Glad all that has changed.

She looked great with her natural profile and there was no need to change.

Danny Thomas was Roman Catholic and while his features are middle eastern he was not Jewish. If I remember correctly, he was from Lebanon. (or his ancestors were)

That seems to be pretty obvious since the family is posing in front of 'The Last Supper' installed in their home.

Danny Thomas considered St Jude Thaddeus to be his patron saint, hence the name he chose for the hospital which was supposedly intended to be a shrine.

I saw on tv that Kenny Rogers went and had a facelift after some other celebrity friend recommended it and a doctor also. It seems his eyes were very pulled and it has actually been called a botched surgical procedure. He has mentioned having trouble with his eyesight since. He's admitted to it being a failed surgery. Poor man. He looks so different.

Frankly, I suspect that a lot of celebs have had lots of plastic surgery that we know nothing about since the work turned out looking rather natural. They have to look good for the sake of their earning power, and they do lots to preserve and enhance their looks.
