I love the look of the can but I can understand how people think it is diet coke. I even grabbed a can like this thinking it was diet when it was regular. I didn't buy it though, I caught myself before I got that far. Don't you look at the packaging by the design only? I certainly do.

With all the hype over Coke memorabilia the smart money would buy all the white coke they could get their hands on, then sit on it for 5 years and probably triple their money.

Iowagirl..are you crazy,,there are coke collectors out there that will buy anything that says coke on it...here is a new product that has only been out a couple weeks and they are taking it off the market, which means there is a limited supply...to those collectors that will up the ante in five years...

Don't believe me..go to Ebay and punch in the word coke or Coca cola and see what you find..Everything from bottles and glasses to tee shirts, sweat shirts, hats, belts, shoes, lamps, and every other thing you can imagine,,,I bet you can find toilet seats with a coke emblem on them..and they get top money on all that junk.

I ain't into that drug scene...a guy told me about snorting coke once..so I tried it...I put the straw up my nose, pinched off the other nostril as instructed and inhaled real hard..........

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam...I got them damn bubbles up my nose and next thing you know I got foam coming out of my nose & mouth and I was caughing my fool head off.....No more sniffing Coke for me,,,,,maybe rootbeer or Dr.Pepper but damn sure,,no more coke....

The sad thing is, the money was to go to the WWF to help with the dwindling polar bear population.

That campaign is now dead in the water. That is too bad, just for the sake of people not accepting change.

They sell Coca-Cola that is bottled (yes glass bottles - tall ones) in Mexico around here. It is made with sugar, not corn syrup.

It is often heard "have you tried Mexican coke" - that is also another head turner - :)

It is supposed to be SO much better, but for my uneducated palate, it tastes pretty much the same.

People can behave so foolishly, this is another of the all about me attitude, people are too busy to read so the vendor needs to adjust to suit them. Sad for WWF, tho I have no doubt that Coke with make a substantial donation.

I agree with Gibby3000, if people want to get up in arms about something find something that is deserving of their attention.

I'm not upset about it but I do think it was a bad call on Coke's part to use white cans. My mom brought some over for Thanksgiving and they do definitely appear to be diet to me. I don't drink a lot of coke and never drink diet so I don't easily know the difference. It looks like Diet. Granted, I'm busy and I guess not so smart because I don't read every can I drink from or box I eat from. I assume the pretzels I eat are pretzels and the can that looks like Coke, is Coke.

It was a very bad marketing mistake. I wouldn't doubt many, many people have bought or drank the wrong soda and that many returns had to be processed. Everytime I go to get a can of soda from my fridge, it looks like diet to me. I know it's not...but it kind of puts a bad taste in my mouth, because I hate diet. It's not good to tease your customers that way. It's wierd. It would be like drinking 7up or diet coke from a red can (even if you read the can and know it's your correct soda). It just feels off.

at first it was a prob cause we were so used to reaching down in the beverage cart for a white can for Diet...and people actually screamed out a couple of times...I DONT WANT DIET!...and we showed them the cans...they grew on me...but I've always loved the Polar Bear/Coke Christmas labels...it was kind of strange not to see the old fashioned Santa on the RED cans...but every now and then...some new whippersnapper comes in and wants to stir up change...guess they realized the coke drinkers are traditionalists!! just like when they tried to change the recipe for Original Coke...

As I read this I thought, make the Coca-Cola logo predominant on there should solve the issue. Then I looked at it and that's what they did! Only the truly stupid could not realize that ("Classic") "Coca-Cola" is different than "Diet Coke". But I guess it's another example of the dumbing down of society. Can't read - look at the pictures. But even the "picture", aka logo is blatently clear. No excuse for this one. But again, people won't take responsibility for themselves. Gotta blame someone else. "It's YOUR fault that *I* didn't read!" attitude.

Then to further prove there must be lead in the drinking water of these paint chip eaters:

Really says it all to me! Really, some of these people need to be put in helmets. Maybe it is unfortunate it doesn't take some intelligence to breathe. Could solve some problems. Let's just hope the ones who get so worked up over a soft drink can don't bother to look when they cross the street.

OK I see another problem with this. If you are diabetic and not as observant as you should be, that regular Coke in the white can might look like diet to you.

Its not a matter of making us feel better by calling them stupid, it is a matter of fact that they are stupid.....Anyone who is confronted with a product in an unfamiliar package whould take a moment or two and actually read the packaging before injesting the product..to do anything less is just downright stupid,,,and if that statement steps on somebodies toes..all I can say is,,,if you don't want your toes stepped on, don't leave your feet dangling in the isle.

It wasn't an unfamiliar package - they mistook it for diet coke. And the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I don't drink soda so I didn't take it but I did think it was diet coke when I first looked at it. It was in a bucket with a bunch of other sodas.

It doesn't make someone stupid for mistaking new packaging. I would be willing to bet that everyone, at some point in time, has bought the wrong version of something. I know I have. And most people shop by scanning and looking for colors whether you realize it or not. Whether it's coke, or the blue box mac and cheese, or sausage and mushroom spaghetti sauce with the lady on the label. You've never accidentally bought the fat free or low sodium versions when you wanted regular? Most people don't have hours to spend at the grocery store carefully reading everything. They rely on their habits and their knowledge to be as efficient as possible, and that includes using their pattern recognition skills.

There are always one or two people on here who never hesitate to attack and call people stupid, lacking intelligence, dumb, irresponsible, a waste of space, etc. I admire the sheer perfection of these individuals and I aspire to be as mistake-proof as they are. As they shower down their judgments on people they have never met, we should all gather sing their praises at their omniscient powers and ability to tell the truth, no matter how many feelings they may hurt. Because being superior on the internet is always the most important thing.

Pattern recognition is fine providing the product is in the same package that your familiar with,,however,,,if the packaging has changed that in itself should trigger your pattern recognition skills to tell you that you may want to investigate further,,,,to do anything less is lazyness on your part and should in no way reflect upon the product or the manufacturer..

Yeah but they didn't realize the packaging changed. That's the whole point. They didn't think, "hmm this looks different but I'm going to take a drink anyway without reading it" like you seem to be suggesting. They thought, "Here's my diet coke" and didn't realize it wasn't until they took a drink. There's a big difference.

I don't feel the need to blame someone else for my actions as a few here do. If you don't pay attention, it's YOUR fault, not the manufacturer's, retailers, or other forum participants.

It must be nice to be so superior that everyone else is to blame when people make mistakes. Oh wait, it's not a mistake when it's someone else's fault, is it? Maybe Coca-Cola ought to have just overlayed a drawing of a small white polar bear atop the traditional red can. That, at least, would have probably forced some people to take a second glance?

I'm sure that the Coca-Cola marketing folks are smacking their foreheads now. Kind of like several years ago, when Sunlight dishwashing liquid came out, and some "unsuspecting" buyers thought it was Minute Maid lemon juice because the packaging was similar. I'll bet neither company ever envisioned any confusion. (Maybe no holiday bonuses for the Coke folks!)

I saw an ad in today's paper for a round Coca-Cola bottle (I think it's white) and for a taller, less curvier glass bottle. Both looked very cool. Doubt they'll be on the shelves very long.

No one expects you to be "nice" but there's a big difference between saying someone did something stupid and wishing them physical harm, as you've done.

The irony is that I actually agree that the company and the retailers shouldn't be held responsible. It is the consumers fault for not reading. But that doesn't make all of them stupid and a waste of life.

It's amusing how people exaggerate and can't understand there's a difference between stupid people and stupid actions. But when people don't learn from it or feel the need to blame others for their, yes stupid actions (which interestingly is usually prompted by laziness - just won't look or read, that's when a person becomes stupid. I don't apologize for feeling that we need a little chlorine in the gene pool as they say. The loss of common sense, the increasing laziness including not paying attention, the lack of accepting personal responsibility the increasing demand that everyone else has to look out for them, it's a sad state of affairs.

And it's demonstrated again that you could say "good morning" to some people and they'll cry "INSULT!!!!!". LOL A few innocuous letters put together and people get their panties in a bunch. No wonder they get so crazy if someone changes a can design.
