Definitely a roseate spoonbill. Their color can change from a pale pink to a bright pink depending on the amount of Crustaceans that they consume. I see them down here all the time, and it's amazing how the colors can vary amongst the bird.

Excellent photos! I have been trying to photo a few that have been vacating our waterhole in our back pasture. Since water is becoming scarce and waterholes drying up everywhere down here, they are becoming more visible, but my photos always come out blurry. I'll keep trying... Once again, nice shots. Kt

Thanks Carol and Sultry!! As you can tell...I love photography :) I did a lot of sports photography over the last 40 years so I'm sure that helps with catching birds in flight. I shot these handheld with my Canon 7D and my Canon 70-200 2.8 lens (which equates to 112-320mm due to the 1.6 magnification factor on canon digital SLRs). Normally, if I knew ahead of time that we were going to go birding after visiting Tom, I would have packed my 300 2.8 (480mm equivalent) and a monopod. But, since I was only planning on shooting gardens and flowers, I packed light. Sultry, I love their "bed head" look as well :)
