What are 10 (or 5) best things you have put into your mouth?

In my opinion that changes depending on the time of year, for me in the summer ;
garden tomatoes
perfectly ripe watermelon
corn on the cop W/ butter
fresh strawberries
that first sip of cold beer on hot day

in the winter;
mincemeat pie
my own chili (the best IMO)
real spiced apple cider
good potroast
good champagne at New Years Eve

1. The very first fresh strawberry of the season
2. Deep fried califlower dipped in melted cheese
3. The very first bite of freshly baked pumpkin pie
4. Lobster dipped in hot butter
5. A mushroom, made any which way
6. Fresh homemade jam on a piece of fresh homemade bread
7. A cashew
8. A fresh from the garden tomato with salt
9. Brussel sprouts with melted butter
1. ear of corn on the cob soaked in butter, salted slightly
  I'm sure there are many more, now I'm very hungry!

"Strangest".... That's pretty funny, as I am the only one in my entire neighborhood that grows *ANY* fruit at all.... The neighbors look at me like I am some sort of anachronism for growing a little garden and some fruit trees.... But... The "Strangest" of all the common stuff I have is a cider pear, a Citation Rootstock peach/plum that had the graft die, an American Purple plum seedling, and a roadside dug-up seedling peach. My Purple and black tomatoes probably classify as what folks around here think is weirdest... They look and say "But... It's rotten!" On the sugar cane thing - if you poke around and ask the old timers at the feed stores - you will find that most farm families in the Deep South used to raise their own sugar cane for sweetening things.... As Jolji said - you bury them over the winter, then dig them up and plant them shallow after Easter... This year, I want a Jujube and a couple filberts... In years past - people expressed wonderment at my Vanilla orchids... Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving weekend to you~~ My family loves this pumpkin pie filling, so we always bake some in custard cups skipping the crust. It works with any type of winter squash and is delicious for breakfast or a snack anytime! We're always sad when our supply of garden squash is gone and we have to wait until next year. Combine in blender: 2 cups roasted squash 4 eggs 1 cup milk (or powdered milk equivalent) 1/2 cup - 2/3 cup brown sugar (lesser amt if squash is sweet) 1 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice OR (1 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 3/4 tsp each ground ginger & nutmeg) 1/2 tsp salt 1 1/2 tsp vanilla Bake in custard cups in a shallow dish of water at 375 until set. Depending on size of cups will take 20-35 minutes. Will be puffed up, but shrinks as it cools. Variation: add 1/4 cup flour for a self crust pie & bake at 375 degrees for about 45 minutes. Will set up more as it cools. It cracks if you overbake. Can bake in a glass pie plate or a small rectangle to cut into squares. Serve with sugar cookies & your family will love it! When our kids were young we only used cinnamon and we increased to the full spice as they grew accustomed to spicier foods. I've made it with as little as 1/4 cup sugar or honey if we've also served it with sweetened cream. When the squash is sweet & you have the spices you don't notice the lower sugar amount. The easiest way to roast squash: pierce & microwave the whole squash for a few minutes cut in 1/2 & scoop out seeds with icecream scoop place cut side down on greased pan with sides (cake pan or jelly roll pan) Roast at 350 degrees for about an hour or until soft. Let cool for at least 30 minutes. Flip over & scoop out squash with a large spoon. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! Corrine

I'm a big fan of my Chemex pour-over. There are for sure some downsides. Most notably, it's not a push a button and leave sort of deal. Due to this, though, you control the water temperature, and pour, because it's your own hand doing it. It also uses proprietary filters that aren't the easiest to get. I live in downtown Boston and have found a few places within walking distance that carry them. But it's not a matter of going to your local supermarket and grabbing them off the shelf. Coffee geeks also will note often that said proprietary filters impart a "papery" taste into the coffee. I do a rinse with about a cup of hot water and then dump it down the drain before I add my grounds and that takes care of any sort of taste. The final plus? I think it looks beautiful sitting on my counter :)

Thankful that, after borrowing my allowance ahead from Dad on a few occasions and having been forced to stretch the pennies for some months afterward, to heed Dad's advice that if I couldn't pay cash for something ... to not buy it: wait till later, when I had the cash on hand. And build up some cash on hand, available in case of need.They said on the radio the other day that many people, earning $100.00 ... are spending $160.00! One can't continue a hobby like that for any length of time, without getting badly burned! Dad taught mne to be a good neighbour ... and my boss told folks a couple of thousand years ago that we should love our neighbours as ourselves. Seems to me wise to be courteous, generous and kind to others, even to offering a smile to folks that we meet on the street, in the supermarket, etc. ... or making a friendly comment: usually I get a reply that includes at least a small portion of warmth, and oftern there's a smile that each carries away, to brighten one's day a bit. Seldom do I get that look that offers even a slight suggestion that it'd be a good idea were I to get lost! Dad used to say that he wanted to leave the farm better than he found it, and brother, the retired farmer, feels the same. Though they may not have articulated such, they'd say that they wanted to leave their community better than they found it, as well - and both did. I agree ... and my definition of community stretches to our province, nation and the wider world. We'll either learn to live together, showing concern for the welfareof others ... or we could well all die together. Years ago we were worried about being fried to a crisp with those horrendous bombs ... but now it appears that our demise may be brought about by wasting precious resources and causing massive global warming and pollution. Unless we smarten up. Those seem to be my major good things ... thus far. ole joyfuelled ... who's been known to dispense gas ... as well as burning it

1. A fresh Sfogliatelle from either Maria's or Modern Bakery in Boston's North End. Locally, I'll take one from Cafe Aurora. With a cup of Boston's Best French roast coffee. Cream or milk only, thank you.

2. A glass of dry red Montpulciano d'Abruzzo.

3. The first mouthful of my warm cipollini agradolce.

4. Risotto

5. Joey's Osso Bucco, recipe from Cooking Under Cover.

6. Fresh home made pasta.

7. Grilled roasted red peppers drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

8. Fresh pesto over linguine. Or just eaten sans pasta with a spoon.

9. Krause's chocolate in Saugerties...any kind of filling with their dark chocolate coating. Hands down, their's is the best chocolate on the face of the earth ;o)
1. A cup of Harney's tea, either Hao Ya B, East Frisian, Eight at the Fort, or Boston. Sugar and cream, please.

Trying not to run to the fridge:

A cup of fresh strong coffee with a bit of cream.
Anything chocolate, any time, any place.
Sweet scallops broiled with butter.
Fresh strawberries.
Oven-roasted asparagus with olive oil.
Grilled cheese sandwich with fresh tomatoes on top of the cheese.
Sunshine Hollow Vidalia onion-tomato dressing, suggested to me by someone on this forum.
My fruit salad of sliced oranges, pears, bananas, currants, toasted sunflower seeds, with some Drambuie mixed in.
My Crocked Pot Roast.
Perfect key lime pie.

Could go on and on!

OMG...how could I have forgotten to include Ipswich fried clams? The Summer Shack in Cambridge makes some of the best! I'll have to sneak that one in my list somewhere.
