The old TIPPING question

It's that time of year when we get Christmas cards in the newspaper from the delivery guy, on the front porch from the recycle guy, and another from the trash pick up guy. The newspaper lands in our gardens 4 days out of 7, and sometimes we have to search for the darn thing.

Are these people that should be tipped at Christmas time?

I can see tipping the newspaper delivery since he makes almost nothing doing this job which is usually a 2nd job for most, I'd think. Frankly, the others are doing their jobs and getting paid for it, just like we all get up in the morning to go to work to earn our living.

Why do the trash and recycle guys expect a tip? I also work 40+ hours in a service business, however, that doesn't give me the right to send out cards with a return envelope attached.

And with the holiday here, I have a hair appointment and have no intention of tipping her extra for Christmas because she gets a 15-20% tip each time I see her. Why do people think they should tip their hairdresser at this time of year?

Thoughts????
