The Kitchen Table

Awful Febreeze ad on this site

13 years ago

I now know that I will NEVER buy Febreeze. They put an ad on the Kitchen Table site and it just sits there even when I click on "close." What an awful impact the ad makes on the company. I suspect they are losing more potential customers than they know with an ad that will not close.

planted my last load of neem seeds, and a few are showing radicals :) so with any luck i'm sorted. (germ notes..) i received them from india last autumn.. some germed then but didn't survive the winter. had slow germs and issues with fungus gnats in early spring. 24 hour soak, husked them.. i like to germinate in a tupperware with a 1/2" of perlite on the bottom and a 1/4" of water, occasionally dropping some h2o2 if there's a fungus outbreak. they go in soil when they've got a nice radical.

Why would they kick you off Norm? I don't understand. They sure wouldn't kick you off for what you said above. I've seen 1000X worse with no response. Come to think of it, I never really see any response from them about anything. To block the ads with Mozilla, first turn your flash player off (this takes care of the ads that move across the screen), and then every time you see an ad, left click on it to get it's address. Then add that address to the exceptions list under Tools, then Options, then Content, then Exceptions. So far all the ads seem to come from just a handfull of addresses, so it doesn't take long to block all the ads.

Wondered how your plans are going. No question that removing the rail would be one of the first things I would do. The other would be replace the counters and do something different on the splash -- even if it is paint. Paint and counters are the things to focus on. I think we have a good chorus going on that theme. ;-) I wouldn't hesitate to do something like an armoire (you can find them used cheap and paint any color you want) for a pantry. An unfitted piece doesn't tie you to anything that can't be easily changed -- maybe used in another room down the road. Another option there might be to use the cabinet that is next to the DW, the drawer stack where you could move the DW and create a hutch on that wall, possibly next to or surrounding your fridge. I wouldn't be inclined to do a two tone trim -- they are just too limiting and I think they tire quickly. Another option you have with those cabinets and the vaulted ceiling would be to raise all of the upper cabinets and install an open shelf below. If you wanted to do something like that, you might consider removing the plate rack or figuring how to tie it in/use it without having too much open storage. I can understand moving the DW. That makes perfect sense. I'm not sure why you would want an island here instead off your table and chairs. I may not be envisioning the way this all works together correctly, but I think you would chop up or box up your space and lose more than you would gain. I don't know that you could seat more than 2 or 3 and you can seat 6 now if you pull the table from the window. In fact, start by pulling the table away from the window and rotating it. Even take the chairs away from the kitchen side and see if you really like the way the space functions. The height will be different, but you can get a better feel for the flow and use of the space. You seem concerned about a dark counter, but with floor and cabinets so close to the same wood, you really need some contrast and charcoal to black will tie in your appliances. Get a more contemporary window treatment -- even a simple shade, and with a new paint color, it will really look totally different. I'd talk to everybody I knew who had done counters and talk to fabricators and stone yards. You don't have a lot of counters to deal with and they are pretty straight and simple pieces. You might find a remnant (lats slab in the lot) or even prefab counters in a simple black granite that would look great. I have nothing against laminate, but a quality one may not be cheaper or much less than a great find in granite. Don't cross it off your list if you haven't looked. Good luck -- let us know how it's going.

Chrome stopped working with "Aw, Snap!" message

From what I can tell, the problem I has is with the most recent Windows updates. I did find a message from someone who had the same problem I have, and they said that removing the latest three Windows updates allowed them to use Chrome again. It appears that Windows is at war with Chrome. I'm not sure how to undo my latest Windows updates or whether this is a good idea. For now, I am stuck using Edge - I guess that is the purpose of the Windows updates - to force people to use Edge instead of Chrome. I have never liked IE, and so I am suspicious of Edge and do not like being forced to use it.

Adblock is a FREE download. It works with many browsers. Google it.

We get people complaining about ads every few weeks. It does get tiresome.

So do it or not, just as you see fit, BUT you don't have to see the ads. Ever. Your choice.

With both Firefox and Chrome you need an add-on to eliminate ads. Opera has had content blocker long before adblock came around and it is integrated so it works far better. I don't understand why people refuse to use the best, fastest and safest browser out there. You don't need the extra precautions like you do with Firefox, Chrome, IE and you also have a less bloated browser. You also don't have to put up with the constant updates that the others require while they try to catch up to the one they try to copy. But, to each their own.

On my computers and on my android tablets I use firefox with ad block plus and the easylist subscription all free all super easy to use and never see ads. I have put the directions up here several times so searching for it here might turn it up or just ask. If you are looking for these on google be very careful about what you are getting, there's a lot of rogues with very similar names that you definitely don't want.

I changed to Firefox to get away from ads, but then I started getting them again. Thanks for the suggestion, Sushipup. I am hopefully now ad free.

just using firefox won't do it. You need to add the adblock plus add on, up top tools add on get add ons, for adblock plus, install to firefox ignore any warnings. Then shut down the browser, restart, click on the ABP stop sign that is now on your address bar area, there look for preferences and add filter subscription. There select the easylist filter list, save, restart the browser again.

or you can go here and click on add easylist to abp

At the bottom of this page is a green stripe;
click on "contact us" on the right side, & select "comment" & let gw know how difficult this ad makes it to pull up the pages.

& here's the site to email the makers of febreze.
