I do I do!! I had a handmade one it was made of felt (yellow I think) that had a duck appliqued to the front. I used it for years. Then it was under the pillow.

My mother would have had a fit w/ something lumpy taking up space at the foot of the bed. That wouldn't have been neat enough. You must really be young. I've never heard of these. Could it be an Arkansas thing?

Yup, I remember them. I also remember the flannel nightgowns. My Gramma gave all us grandkids a new pair of PJ's/nightgown every Christmas. We would always love opening that gift, knowing we'd have a nice soft gown to wear that night.

My sisters and I had ones that our grandma made us. They were Humpty Dumpty's. They were sewn and his face was painted on with some kind of embroidery paint that came in a tube.

Sure do. Mine were similar to stuffed animals with a zippered pocket in the back. One year it was a snowman.

I had autograph hounds also. The last one was cremated with my little spaniel mix. SHE liked like to hump it. LOL

My kids in the 70's had pj bags like pillows. DD still has a Tigger one. In the late 80's I knew a child who'd been placed in a shelter over the holidays. I bought her a large stuffed mouse pillow style pj bag and stuffed the pouch with candy.

Vannie, I'm 50. I grew up in the 60's in Wisconsin, and I know it was like a stuffed animal or doll or something like that, and it was kept up by the pillows. It was decorative and functional all at the same time.

I never had an autograph hound but I had friends who did. I was never into autographs so that's probably why. I did have a large assortment of stuffies, though.

*gasp* I think it was a big fuzzy white cat! Laid lengthwise, not sitting up, I'm pretty sure that's what it was. It had a compartment on the back, like an envelope opening. And I'm also pretty sure my 2 older brothers DIDN'T have one just like it! lolol

I still have mine...it was a doll...with a red dress on...and the dress was all full in the skirt...it has a zipper up the back...i never used it for pj's...but always remember it settin on my bed...i have no clue where it is...but it's around here somewhere...

My pj's got washed once a week...we bathed at night...didn't have a shower on the farm...so i was clean goin into the jammies and Mom believed in wearing something more then once if it wasn't soiled or stinky! SO DO I!! I feel like I wash my kids clothes to death...sometimes i give them the smell test and hang them on a peg in their closet!

Gee Flamey, I haven't thought about pajama bags in years. Mine was a big white fluffy cat with green eys. I don't know whatever happened to it but I never did put my pj's in it, I always stuffed them under my pillow and still do. LOL That cat sat on my bed for years.

I love flannel granny nightgowsn. That is what I buy my childhood friend Kathy every year until this year. LOL She says she has too many now. LOLOL I wouldn't mind one.

My sister always wants me to buy her a plus sized one even though she is not plus sized. She says it feels cozier when it is bigger but there can't be any itchy lace around the neck. LOL

Hmmm, I am wondering if my cat pj bag is up in the attic in a trunk. I will have to go take a look around one day when I can get all the Pyrex off the top of it. LOL

I had one for a while, had forgotten that! I forget what happened to it, the toy fairy may have confiscated it on a visit when we didn't pick up our toys.
Most of the time though my PJ's were folded neatly and put under the pillow. (I grew up in northern Maine, all my cousins lived in Canada, but they did the same thing, so its not just a midwest kind of thing.)

We always bathed at night too, and no way in the world was my mom going to wash the pj's of 3 kids every day, she was drowning in laundry as it was. We had a laundry chute in my brother's room that went straight down 2 stories to the laundry room, we used to yell down the chute to talk to mom, she was always in there, seems like.

Pajama bags, laundry chutes, autograph dogs, and granny gowns! What a fun trip down memory lane, girls!

I never had a pajama bag, my friends did and I wanted one!!! Our pajamas went in the dresser each morning. I've never heard of an autograph hound before.

I think I got gyped. My pajama bag was just a pink fuzzy pillow with a zipper - no white cat or dog for me.

I think the one in the link is why kids have nightmares though. Scary!

I remember them...but I never had one...I never got to have to "fad" things until I got old enough to have a job.

My uncle got sick and lost his good job...they raised their 5 kids plus his 3 that were from his first marriage...and me...plus the neighbor girl was at our home most of her life....

Flamey, I have a laundry chute in the hall outside the bedrooms. When you open the door and look down a bit you see the big word Boo.

You see, we had a Mr. Boo who lived in our clothes chute. He would rattle chains and call up to us "feed me, feed me" and we would throw down our dirty clothes. This lasted until my nieces were born and we were notorious in the neighbourhood for having a "Mr. Boo"

One day I came home from work and didn't see a car in the driveway. It was just my brother, Dad and I who were living in the house at the time. I came in and did some stuff around the house and was walking down the hall when I heard a scratching noise come from the chute. I opened the door to have a better listen and this orange thing flew up at me with an eerie screech. I screamed my guts out. LOL My Dad was down the basemet and he figured I didn't know he was home so he was going to play a trick on me so he made the scratching noises. LOL He stuck a orange headed floor duster up the chute at me when I opened the door. I finally got to meet Mr. Boo - head on.

Mr. Boo left the house when my Dad died. The grandkids always ask what happened to Mr. Boo after they heard stories about him. Our Mr. Boo lives in the imaginations of a lot of grown up kids.

I remember those autograph hound dogs...they were plastic...with a pen attached to their collar...had long floppy plastic ears...WHAT A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE!!

I bought this on ebay in the fall...I wanted one so bad in fourth grade...but it didn't happen...and then of course this spoiled little rich girl in my class comes to school with it and wouldn't let anyone play with it...we all had to stand around and watch her...finally other kids started getting them and I got to try one...it was soooo much fun!!I couldn't believe it when my "Ebay WANT IT NOW" came up with one...the guy must have had an attic full of them. I put that thing on in and wore myself out in about 30 seconds!
it's in it's original box (marked a dollar) in my curio cabinet...along with my Barbie and Ken...My son's girlfriend had never seen a Barbie who's legs didn't bend...LOL

My first PJ bag was like Liz Ga's, a doll dressed in a large, ruffled skirt. Mine was a brunette dressed in a yellow ballgown with lots of white lace. The bottom of the skirt zipped open and the PJs/nightgown went in there. I don't know what happened to her, but the next one I had was a green dog that zipped open from his underside.

I had the Granny Gowns, too, but never had an autograph hound.

BTW - the inference was made that , since I have always wore sleepwear only one and never used a pajama bag, we did not bathe every night was in error. We did.
There were 4 of us children, and yes, my mother did a lot of laundry.

Well waaaa, I never had a PJ bag, but now I want one. :) I did have granny gowns though. Those are sweet memories. I'm short of time so will have to come back and read the other memories too.

I remember those.I made each of my kids one for their beds.Of course they all had animal ones,cats and dogs,and if memory serves me right,one had a lion.Hmmmmmmmmmm,wonder if i still have those patterns??

No memory of pajama bags but our mom always had us put our jammies under the pillows..

I had 2 pajama bags when I was a child. One was a grey fluffy cat and one was a tan dog. Each had babies in their zippered pouch with enough room to stuff my jammies in as well. Sometimes I would put all the babies (6 total) in one of the animals and use the other for the PJ's. I just loved these!

Never ever heard of such a thing lol. I don't know what we did with our pj's. I too had flannel granny gowns. Mine were usually hand me down from my sisters.

My grandmother gave me this one ....in blue. The back unzips.

Now I am wondering what we di with our PJ's. I know we wore them more than once.

I also have a laundry chute. It goes from the upstairs bath and also has an opening from the kitchen counter near the sink-dumps into a cabinet attached to the ceiling above the dryer on the floor below. While the bath had a fancy door the kitchen one did not and I used to put things in front to block it because it worried me. Pish says DH. So one day I was passing trough the laundry room and heard one little squeaky sound from the cabinet. I opened the door and there sat Wesley my orange kitty staring at the wall as if he had lived there all his life. He was glad to get out, just embarrassed. It is a good thing we had gone with the short chute and ceiling bin.

I still have one packed in a box. Mine was a sheepskin pillow with a zipper back.

I am curious how this thread (and a few other really old old old ones) came to life again. Not complaining or criticizing but curious.

It is puzzling how this thread rose again. Sometimes I don’t click on such old threads, but I was intrigued! And yes, I had one for a few years, because my best friend had one and I asked for one. Mainly, though, I had a “giraffe” clothes rack, and that’s where I hung my PJs, or under my pillow.

We laid our pj's "out" on our beds and then I guess my Aunt would fold them after they aired and stick them under the pillow to pull out for bed. I am trying to remember how many nights we wore them. I am guessing a few because we had a bath right before bed every night.

Remember the little dolls with crocheted skirts that covered toilet paper rolls? And the little aprons that people tied around dish soap bottles?

I adored Giraffes. What is a giraffe clothes rack?

And, I remember my mother in law brought us an apron for the dish soap bottle and I still can get hysterical laughing about that. It just struck us so funny. If I recall, it was gingham. DH (her son) was just amazed that this could exist. :)

We never had pajama bags at your house. We preferred to hang them up to air out before next use.
