Who has TIVO ??

Do you like it, hard to set up, complicated to use? etc. We got one for Christmas, and they're just starting to work on it.

Have it and love it. Has to be easy to use for me to do it. I like the fact i can record one station while watching another. Once you get the hang of it, you will really like it too.

Sons and daughter gave us one a few years ago. We love it. We set it for our favorite series and don't even worry if we will be home for them ever again. In fact, we will wait if we are home, and then watch it later so we can flip through the commercials. If grandson is coming, we set it for Mickey Mouse Club and Curious George the day before and of his arrival. He is happy watching those two shows over and over again. If we see that a special is coming up, we can set it for that a week or more ahead. If we get tired in the middle of a movie on TV and want to go to bed or must run an errand, it will record the rest of the movie. If we like two shows on at the same time, we can record one and watch the other. Or we can record 2 shows at once, but then we cannot watch another live tv show, but we can watch a recorded show. Also, if we turn on a tv show mid way through and like it, we can back it up to an hour before we turned on the TV if it is the station it was on when it had been turned off. And we love the ability to back up any tv show, recorded or not, if we missed something or did not understand what someone said. If someone calls during a live show we are watching, we can back up to as much as one hour to pick up what we missed.

You will definitely love it.

Wanted to post back for those who might have a similar problem. Yesterday it occurred to me to try unplugging the Tivo G adapter - waiting 20 seconds - plugging back in. That did the trick. My Tivo now connects to my network. The bedroom Tivo was a separate issue. The Wireless N adapter there was simply too far from the router to reliably stay connected to the network (it should have - and it did for a few months - but 1 1/2 hours of troubleshooting with Tivo couldn't get it to connect to my main wireless network). What we did there was connect it to the wireless network we have in my family room - much stronger signal. That worked. The only reason I hadn't tried that before is that that wireless adapter in the family room isn't super reliable itself - and sometimes drops connections. But it's better than no connection. Thanks. Ok A couple of things to start. Please forgive me if you already know this stuff, but they'll help with dealing with Dish. First, Tivo is a product and a company not affiliated with Dish. Tivo has crept into our language as a word meaning "to record TV/Movies onto a hard drive device," much like Kleenex has come to stand for a tissue. Dish does not use Tivo's products, so any/all info you find about Tivo's products will not apply! Dish makes their own boxes in conjunction with some other electronics manufacturers. Dish calls their boxes that have that functionalities Digital Video Recorders or DVRs for short (Dee Vee Ahrs when talking to their customer service). First, you need what they call a dual tuner DVR. This means that while one tuner is busy taping a show, you can watch another live show with the other tuner. Here's where they confuse people: shows that you have already recorded do NOT require a tuner to watch. So, you can actually tape two live shows at once, while watching a third previously, completely taped show. Does that make sense? Any time you need to do anything with live TV (pause, record, change channels) you need a free tuner to do it with. Now, they have a few dual tuner boxes available. Some can feed multiple rooms, some have HDTV capability. Prices vary with them, depending on capabilities. Typically, the HDTV dual tuners are the most expensive Dish offers typically running aroudn $600 to purchase them. There is currently some question about purchasing them, though. Dish appears to be moving to more of a leasing/rental model lately, with you paying a small fee ($6) monthly to rent the box. At some future date, you'd pay a similar small fee and be able to upgrade the box for a newer one with upgraded capabilities. Although the leasing offer has upset some, it's really a good deal, seeing that most boxes last around 3 years or so. I can't tell you current pricing, but with the info/terminology above, you should be able to contact Dish directly and tell them what you need. Simply go through each room of the house that will need a box and tell them the capabilities: I need one dual tuner DVR for my living room. I'll want satellite in my bedroom too, but don't need dual tuners or a dvr there. I'd like another single tuner DVR for my workshop. I'll need Dishpro dish and professional installation. One of ours (from 13 or 14 years ago!) had to have a phone line to be hooked up and for the schedule updates. Afterwards...and AFTER we had bought the wireless TiVo router thing....we have just had our orignal setup and updates done via our network. We have 4 stand-alone TiVos, not the Comcast or satellite-based ones....

We have DVR - which I believe is similar. What a great invention. No more tapes, or remembering to record programs. Set it once to record your favorite shows, and watch them at your convenience. We say our stored (yet-to-be-watched)shows are "in the vault" -- sometimes the vault is pretty full. You will love it!

We have DVR...TIVO I think comes with satellite dishes but their basically the same thing...I'm an addict...I set it up to tape shows and then fast forward thru the commercials...It catches them all and I never have to worry about missing one...

Try looking on line if you need help with the set up...There are lots of help sites...We found a site that explained how to set up the remote so it would fast forward ahead in 15 second intervals...great for zooming thru the commercials...I'm sure the AD people hate it cause I rarely watch a commercial!

I used to have it and I liked it but didn't use it that much. We had it on our bedroom TV. We discontinued it when we got an HD TV in lower level family room. We got HD On Demand, DVR, etc. through the cable company at that time. DVR is similar to Tivo but the software is not quite as intuitive or elegant as Tivo. I use the DVR a lot more because I watch about an hour at night when I ride my exercise bike - actually watch 40 minutes and fast forward through 20 minutes of commercials.

We have the HD-DVR setup from DirecTV.

I saw a Blockbuster ad for TIVO and want to look into that as an addition at our condo -- just have an old VCR out there. We LOVE being able to record off the air. Between that and DVD's we play we're set for 'Teatime Matinee' any day -- even if the live transmission feed goes out.
