Who has TIVO ??

Do you like it, hard to set up, complicated to use? etc. We got one for Christmas, and they're just starting to work on it.

Have it and love it. Has to be easy to use for me to do it. I like the fact i can record one station while watching another. Once you get the hang of it, you will really like it too.

Sons and daughter gave us one a few years ago. We love it. We set it for our favorite series and don't even worry if we will be home for them ever again. In fact, we will wait if we are home, and then watch it later so we can flip through the commercials. If grandson is coming, we set it for Mickey Mouse Club and Curious George the day before and of his arrival. He is happy watching those two shows over and over again. If we see that a special is coming up, we can set it for that a week or more ahead. If we get tired in the middle of a movie on TV and want to go to bed or must run an errand, it will record the rest of the movie. If we like two shows on at the same time, we can record one and watch the other. Or we can record 2 shows at once, but then we cannot watch another live tv show, but we can watch a recorded show. Also, if we turn on a tv show mid way through and like it, we can back it up to an hour before we turned on the TV if it is the station it was on when it had been turned off. And we love the ability to back up any tv show, recorded or not, if we missed something or did not understand what someone said. If someone calls during a live show we are watching, we can back up to as much as one hour to pick up what we missed.

You will definitely love it.

Wanted to post back for those who might have a similar problem. Yesterday it occurred to me to try unplugging the Tivo G adapter - waiting 20 seconds - plugging back in. That did the trick. My Tivo now connects to my network. The bedroom Tivo was a separate issue. The Wireless N adapter there was simply too far from the router to reliably stay connected to the network (it should have - and it did for a few months - but 1 1/2 hours of troubleshooting with Tivo couldn't get it to connect to my main wireless network). What we did there was connect it to the wireless network we have in my family room - much stronger signal. That worked. The only reason I hadn't tried that before is that that wireless adapter in the family room isn't super reliable itself - and sometimes drops connections. But it's better than no connection. Thanks. The above post just touched very lightly on what is coming via DTV HD service. Fisrt and foremost, there is a move to mpeg4 encoding with the new HD locals. This means that in order to receive the HD locals, the dish and receivers will have to be replaced. And the new DTV PVR will not be a TIVO device. Also any off air diplexed onto the existing coax will have to be eliminated (run on it's own cable) since the DTV signal will overlap the off air signal. Existing HD Tivo products, like the HD10-250 will NOT work with the new DTV mpeg4 encoding.

I just switched from standard Tivo to comcast HDTV 2 tuner box. I was starting to have issues with Tivo. Their customer service is falling off rapidly and while I love the Tivo interface the hardware is out of date. Its like running Windows XP on a Pentium II its so slow and boxes are starting to fail left and right due to the strain. I like the dual recording and HDTV ability of the Comcast box, but I have issues with Comcast's HDTV signal quality (lots of pixelation). I also don't really like the way the PVR works. Its very finicky, the 2nd tuner is not as strong as the main one, and its very easy to cancel a recording in progress without knowing it (no confirmation, it just stops). I've heard that Comcast has inked a deal with Tivo, and the equipment is forthcoming. We'll see how that works out. Tivo software will solve many problems I see, and it should be running on new equipment. They still have work to do on their signal quality though, at least in my market. Just a hint, Comcast no longer requires subscription to one of their digital packages to get the DVR. You also don't have to pay for the DVR and HDTV as all their current DVRs have it. I pay $10 for basic cable and another $10 for the DVR and rarely don't have something to watch as I usually record and watch later. Tivo and DirectTv no longer have a partnership. While the DirectTv Tivos still work, they no longer get Tivo software updates. I've also heard DirectTv uses HDTV "lite" which is not full resolution. As far as HDTV offering and DVR I think Dish Network is leading the field right now while everyone else is just jockeying for market position and trying to get hardware and software that all works together.

One of ours (from 13 or 14 years ago!) had to have a phone line to be hooked up and for the schedule updates. Afterwards...and AFTER we had bought the wireless TiVo router thing....we have just had our orignal setup and updates done via our network. We have 4 stand-alone TiVos, not the Comcast or satellite-based ones....

We have DVR - which I believe is similar. What a great invention. No more tapes, or remembering to record programs. Set it once to record your favorite shows, and watch them at your convenience. We say our stored (yet-to-be-watched)shows are "in the vault" -- sometimes the vault is pretty full. You will love it!

We have DVR...TIVO I think comes with satellite dishes but their basically the same thing...I'm an addict...I set it up to tape shows and then fast forward thru the commercials...It catches them all and I never have to worry about missing one...

Try looking on line if you need help with the set up...There are lots of help sites...We found a site that explained how to set up the remote so it would fast forward ahead in 15 second intervals...great for zooming thru the commercials...I'm sure the AD people hate it cause I rarely watch a commercial!

I used to have it and I liked it but didn't use it that much. We had it on our bedroom TV. We discontinued it when we got an HD TV in lower level family room. We got HD On Demand, DVR, etc. through the cable company at that time. DVR is similar to Tivo but the software is not quite as intuitive or elegant as Tivo. I use the DVR a lot more because I watch about an hour at night when I ride my exercise bike - actually watch 40 minutes and fast forward through 20 minutes of commercials.

We have the HD-DVR setup from DirecTV.

I saw a Blockbuster ad for TIVO and want to look into that as an addition at our condo -- just have an old VCR out there. We LOVE being able to record off the air. Between that and DVD's we play we're set for 'Teatime Matinee' any day -- even if the live transmission feed goes out.
