There should be a lot of recipes for a cookie press online. I think Spritz is one of them. I have a cookie press too but it is packed away. Hope someone will have some good tried and true recipes for you.

Don't you hate it when you lose recipes? Mostly I'm not crazy about Spritz cookies because I find them tasteless but last year I made one that I really liked. The recipe was from Martha Stewart and I can't find my copy of it. I did pull it up on line and if you are interested I will post it. The only thing is, I know I did something different because the dough was too stiff for the press. The recipe calls for 4 egg yolks. I think I used three yolks, and one whole egg. If you can't get the recipe from her site, let me know, I will post it.

I enjoyed cranking those babies out as a kid. Great memories. I'd have to do some digging or call my sister for my mother's recipe but I assume hers was a pretty conventional one. Here's a good starting point. The Land-O-Lakes recipe is pretty basic. You can add food coloring if you want or other extracts too. Almond, lemon, rum, or whatever flavor you like. I also looked at the All Recipes one and boy do they look familiar! That one uses powdered sugar too.

And please.... these are BUTTER cookies. Don't use margarine! Please?

I use mine for shortbread cookies. Like cynic said.. you need to use butter.

I grew up on a dairy farm so I only use butter for everything,,,I keep a little bit of soapgrease (margarine) in the fridge for tourists and freeloaders when they stop by...LOL

Thanks for the link Kayjones. I don't know how to post links. Lazypup, once you get into the site, search spritz cookie. Her butter cookie recipe will come up. Just click on butter cookie. That's the recipe I used. Very tasty. As you will see, there are many variations depending on what flavor extract you want to use, if you want to tint the dough, etc. Have fun.

I have one of those too, and I still use it. Bought it probably about 40 years ago. I use it for Spritz cookies, and the recipe I like best is in Joy of Cooking. I like to make the wreath kind and put half of a candied cherry in the center. I add about 1/8 tsp of almond extract to the recipe to give it some richness of flavor. The set I have says to put the disk into the end with the side with the number on it facing in. It is great because it makes a lot of pretty cookies with very little effort.

Here is my tried and true spritz recipe. It only takes yolks, so I will also include the Forgotten Cookie recipe - which only takes whites! You bake those after the Spritz because you put them in the hot oven and turn it off and "forget" them overnight!

Spritz Cookies
1 Cup butter softened
3 egg yolks
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/4 cup flour
1/8 teaspoon salt (skip if using salted butter)

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add yolks, vanilla and salt; beat well. Add flour gradually. Fill cookie press and place cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes

Forgotten Cookies

3 egg whites
1 cup sugar
8 oz minature chocolate chips or mini M&Ms
3/8 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Preheat oven to 375. Beat egg whites with salt until stiff Slowly add sugar and vanilla. Fold in chips. Drop onto a greased cookies sheet (I don't grease, I use parchment). Put in oven and turn off and leave overnight.

Make the Forgotten cookies pretty small - they are very rich. Also good with pecans in them.

kayjones, Thank you for the tutorial but I have a MacBook....no left click, no right click and no little house LOL. Anyone out there with a MacBook that might be able to help a computer illiterate? I sure would like to know how to do it.

Thanks for the link to the MS recipe. My Mom made the best spritz cookies, she used both butter and cream cheese in them. I'd modify by using half of each. She also refrigerated the filled cookie press to make the dough firmer. Last year she gave me all her colored sanding sugars, silver balls (dragees) and other decorating materials. She passed away in January so it's up to me to carry the torch.

You need to go into your System Preferences (upper left menu bar, click on the apple, select System Preferences, and then under the Hardware list you should find TRACKPAD to double click.)

You will be able to select what actions represent right clicks, left clicks, and probably page back, page forward, and swiping up and down.

I have a separate trackpad as I'm using my desktop Mac, but for example, I use a single finger tap as the usual 'left click' (as you probably are already doing), two finger tap for a "right click", two fingers to swipe the screen up and down, and 3 fingers to go back and forward a screen. You may or may not have all of those choices depending on what system your Mac is running, but you should have most of them.

If you have a Mac mouse, you'll find that you can make whatever changes you'd like as well in the System Preferences.

The system actually works very well and is very flexible if you're right handed or left handed you can make it work for you.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the forgotten cookies!! My mom and I used to make them. It's almost to the point where I can't make them or I will eat them all! LOL But mom usually makes me a batch at Christmas time !OH JOY!

I thought Spritz cookies always have almond flavoring? Maybe this was just what my family always did.
