Here's My Potting Shed- Pic Heavy

DS built me this potting shed back in July. It sits on the concrete pad where the pool filter was. Looks a little nicer. I threaten that it will go into the living room as furniture, and he can build me an actual potting shed, lol.. DH and I did the inside. It's about 63"x30". The complete sink came from Habitat Restore ($10), and the rest is shelving with old street and other signs. The 'pot tree' showed up at a thrift store($30). It's my Christmas present from DH. I painted it and it seems to fit perfectly right outside the shed. We haven't figured out what the tree was before. It looks like a shoe rack but is far too large, about 6' tall. Linda

That is just awesome. I love the sign shelving. I still think I would want it inside as a piece of furniture. Thanks for showing these pictures.

Ron, came across your post which I missed before...what a beautiful place you have. I am in the midst of planting shade companion plants, so appreciate your thoughts on light for the list you have. Hope you will keep posting pics! Oh, forgot...the potted hostas that you overwinter in the garage...do you have any special tricks for overwintering? I have done it 3-4 years now with about an 85% rate, but I'd like to improve on that because I do not like losing even one! I overwintered some out in our shed this last year instead of the garage, and the mice got into them and I lost a bunch. My biggest problems have to do with springtime moisture levels...I do not water them at all in the garage, come spring, I try to make sure at least 1/2 have broken dormancy before going outside. (Leave them in the garage too long, they dry out and die, water them in the garage, or take them out too early, they can rot.) Would love to hear how you handle yours. For this next year, I'm thinking about giving each small one an ice cube in Feb/March. Just to add some moisture back in as the weather warms up.

Thank you! So glad I found this board last year because I'm pretty sure I drive my friends crazy on facebook bombarding them with pics of my hostas every other day! HA! I am very impressed with Wolverine so far. He's a studly looking guy, I must say! Grand Tiara has 3 dormant eyes coming through now. She's on her way to recovering.

Dave, anything I can do to get the plants a little less leggy? also, I think they are indeterminates, which doesn't that mean they grow 6-10 feet? Not unless you can get them a great deal more sun exposure. ;) Like I said, you just have to work with what is available to you and it is likely too late now to resolve the problem now. If you are going to transplant them into larger containers then planting them as deeply as possible will help some and allow new roots to develop all along the buried stem. But without adequate direct sun exposure they will just stretch out again. Yes, both those varieties are indetermintes so they will get quite tall but that isn't what leads to being leggy if that is what you mean? Leggy plants have very long slender runs of stem between the growth nodes and branches. So with the weaker stems you'll need to support them well. A tall steak that you can tie the plant stems off to at about 1 foot intervals will help support the weight of the fruit. Good luck. Dave

It was good. I'm going to add it to our monthly rotation and keep an eye out for other recipes as easy and tasty to make in my clay pot. Nancy any suggestions? I hate cleaning the thing though. Chase if you're lookig, see if you can find one that's glazed on the inside bottom. I don't think it effects the way it cooks but it sure makes it easier to clean. Compumom, DH bought the brown rice flour. I wasn't with him but it either comes from Trader Joe's or Whole foods and is about 1/2 a pound. I'm going to try it on the Chicken picatta for dinner tonight Shellm, what's BSCB?

Thanks for all the nice comments. I was expecting my son to build more of a plain box, and was really surprised when he showed up with this thing on the back of his truck. He made it fit perfectly on the concrete pad, and under the old patio roof above it. I roofed it with window screen, since it's under cover. It lets plenty of light in. It sure would work for a puppet rack. That's the most likely use I've heard.

I mostly hang out on Garden Junk. If you type in potting shed over there, and on the Trash to Treasure forums, you'll surely find lots of them, and I'll bet lots of people here have nice sheds they'd be willing to post so we can all see. Linda

I'm impressed!! It looks like an antique--really! And the signs are fun. I especially like the 1897 plaque.
