Do you know what happens when you get 20 inches of snow in a week? You spend a lot of time cleaning up and shoveling and re-arranging the lovely stuff yes, but you also have to worry about the roof!

We are really getting short on space to pile this stuff. My little car feels like a lady bug driving down the street cause I can't see over the snowbanks! LOL

This is the parking lot at work, you can't see anything going by on the road. Well a semi you could but even the 4 wheel drives you see nothing of.

This pile must be 7 ft high?

The back driveway is getting pretty narrow too! LOL

Wow, and it isn't even January! Would be nice if it warmed up a lot so some of it melted.

I am just asking about your strange pot! It would probably be ideal for palms, but not for Bananas! Bananas tend to have shallow roots, and grow them in the width, as opposed to palms wich often send a tap-root straight down. Put it in a larger/wider pot for about 1.5 month, and then when it has larger leaves and is in good growth you can plant it in the ground. The leaves will most likely sunburn at first, but if it is well-watered you will have sun-adjusted leaves in no time. Try to adjust it to full-sun gradually, as more light = better growth. The black spots are on the older leaves. This means the plant is taking nutrients from these leaves for new growth, or the plant is simply focusing on new growth. Remember to use a good potting mix. Ensete glaucum, like its brother "ventricosum" loves fert, so you can allready start a light fertilization program. Use the stuff you mix with water. As the plant strengthens in growth, be more liberal with fertilizer. If you are unshure about amounts, and NPK ratio, ask the people at a garden centre. When the plant is in the ground it's better to use organic fertilizer as opposed to chemical fertilizer if you feel unshure about amounts. This is because it is easier to over-fertilize with the chemical stuff. Best of luck! Erlend

I agree Bernd. I think the Seawright pic is too close. I took it with my cell phone. I think either UK's pic could work if it was cropped properly and I also like Wendy's pic with the yellow companion flowers. I agree with Wendy that the tag should go if possible. Does anyone have good editing skills with Photoshop elements or other editing software? Here's UK's Liberty with a little bit of cropping and some edge blur. I'm trying to make it pop out from the photo. That's about the most I can do with iPhoto. What do you think? Steve

I know that so many of you have had a long, cold winter, ....but I'm glad it wasn't me this year. ;-) Usually I still have snow while other zone 5ers are posting their pips, but this year I've got hostas in various stages of growth, and they're eager to get going. Here's a couple of the biggest ones near the house: Satisfaction Arc de Triomphe Our last (average) frost date is just under a month away, mid May, so I'm hoping for the best because I won't baby them if the temps get low. And some early tulips just because they're so pretty!

Great pics, Connie. We have a few measley inches maybe 6 or 7 falling today. It is so cold ,but you beat us in that dept. too. How many more days until spring ??????

The snow looks so pretty here on my computer screen; probably a lot prettier than it would be if I was looking out the window at it. I hope you don't have any roof problems because of it.

Dog gone it Glenda!! I could jump thru this screen right now and hope I'd hit a warm spot landing! ;)

No roof problems, just don't want any! LOL DD Heather said a coworker had some tho and broke a window out and tore off rain gutters....I'm not sure if a spot in the roof collapsed or what?

I wish I could trade you a bit of that snow for some of my sunshine. It is to be 39C (101F) here today and I have no air-conditioning. Maybe I can put my head in the freezer and pretend I am in your parking lot :) Thanks for the pictures - I love snowy ones on my desktop in summer. Beth

Oh, the S word! It's pretty, but it sure can cause problems. The older I get, the less fond of it I become.

Would you please send what you don't want to me? The two times we had deep snow here in the last 20 years I was always somewhere else and missed it. Of course they had no snow there (Colorado and the snowhole of Germany).
