I lost the diamond out of my ring once. Traced my way all the way back, everywhere I had been that afternoon and found it on the floor of the dressing room in a clothing store where I had tried on blouses.

Best to check the floor and trunk of the car with a flashlight, as was suggested, and also the ground anywhere she got in and out of the car. Check inside her purse and pockets too.

I'll bet she finds it!

Put a piece of "panty hose" over the end of the vacuum with an elastic, that way she won't have to search through all the dusty-bunnies in the bag to see if she found it!

I know that this is too late to help your daughter but perhaps it will help her after she finds it....or others that read it.

When you are in the mall or if you visit the jeweler you buy your jewelry ask to have your rings cleaned. The jeweler will inspect the setting, making sure that the head is tight and the stones are solid. They will then buff, clean and steam your rings. If there is anything askew the jeweler will not buff nor put them in the ultrasonic cleaner, but they should spot any trouble before a loss occurs. The jeweler is not in business to steal my rings or to switch the stones, I've had my rings checked every few months for the 25+ years that I have worn them.

I too hope you find it. I just lost the diamond out of my wedding ring about 2 weeks ago. I know I had it one minute and then the next it was gone. No luck finding it, I'm now just wearing a wedding band. What a waste!

And I do know that they are not in the business of taking diamonds..but I have a story.

A friend of mine took her diamond to have it worked on...I think the mountings were worn. It was a full diamond when she took it in...when she got it back it was one of those that looks full but has no bottom on it. When she realized it had been replaced she went back to the store that worked on it. They said it was the diamond that was in it when she brought it in. She didn't have anything to prove it.
I know the family. I used to live by their daughter. She worked with her father, who was the jewler. I watch them build a beautiful new home. Very fancy home. She would brag to me all the time about how they didn't have a loan on the home. That they were just building as they had cash for it...It didn't take very long to get it built. We always wondered about that.

Any time I would take my rings in I'd make sure they did there own work and didn't send out to her dad, because some of the stores did . If they did send out to him I refused to let them do the work on my ring. A few years later the her father's store went out of business.

This doesn't have anything to do with that story..but they had a teenage son who was always in trouble.. Got caught setting fires in the neighborhood all the time. One night he called the fire dept. and said there was a fire at the house that was about 4 houses down from them...Two old people died in that house that night...and he was praised for turning in the fire...

Oooh! Hope she finds it! Here's the story of why I don't wear a newer, bigger diamond after 45 years of marriage.

DH and I had been married less than a year. We were getting ready to go to the World's Fair in Montreal. We'd have to kennel our Westie, Charlie, for the days we'd be away. Two weeks before we left I took the dog to the laundry room of our apartment to give him a bath. When I brought him back to our apartment I noticed that my diamond ring was no longer on my finger. PANIC!

I looked all over our apartment, but *knew* the ring had slid off my finger, unnoticed, while I was soaping the dog. There was no catch on the laundry sink drain -- a straight shot to the sewer.

We called the insurance company, who sent out a boob. He started by saying, "Well, you know these things DEpreciate..." (Not!) Anyway, the company soon said they'd pay for a replacement. DH and I went downtown to choose a new stone and setting. The jeweler said it could be ready a day before we were scheduled to leave town.

The evening we chose the replacement we came home to find Charlie sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor. I swear he was *smiling*. In front of him was a bit of liquid and a twist of his hair -- coiled around MY RING!

Dear Charlie! He'd *swallowed* it when it came off my finger! The vet said he would have kept swallowing hair until he could safely bring it up his throat again. Sweet boy, my HERO! (And this was two days before he would have been boarded.)

When Charlie was nine I took him to the vet one morning to have his teeth cleaned. His breath was awful and I thought he must have a bad tooth. I was to pick him up that afternoon. The vet called me in less than an hour. He asked permission to keep Charllie under anesthesia and let him go. Charlie had something rare: cancer of the tongue.

I'll never replace this ring. It's irreplaceable.

My girlfriend lost her diamond ring. DH bought her a new even better one. Then she found the first one!! It was in the bottom of her closet--I forget if it was in a shoe or on the floor. It must have fallen off when she was going through the clothes on the hangers. Now she has two rings!

My first engagement ring was stolen from our house in FL, along with other jewelry. 2 teenage girls were breaking into homes and stealing stuff. They eventually caught them but it was too late to get my rings back. I'd had the ring custom made with 2 diamonds that my mother had given me, they had been her mother's. I was so mad.

I had a friend lose a ring only to find it 2 years later at her school where she taught, it was in a box of fabric. She was SO happy! Good luck to your DD!

I feel so bad for her! I would rather lose a stone than the setting though. I don't wear my diamond rings as I used to work outside in garden settings. And I don't wear my gloves like I should. DH and I have matching bands that suit me perfectly.

Here is a diamond story for you. When I was about 8, I was in the South Coast Plaza Mall with my step mother. We had gone into Joseph's Jewelers for something. It seemed like we were in there forever, as it would to a young child. So, while the step mother was at the counter, I was walking around looking at the pretties. I was making my way to the front of the store when I found a large diamond on the floor! I picked it up and took it back to the counter. They were quite happy to see it!

One Saturday morning about 20 years ago, I got up early, had breakfast, took my dog out for a little romnp, brushed her fur, then came inside. I happened to look down at my left hand, my engagement ring was on but I could see the spokes and the diamond was gone. Went outside where I'd brushed the dog, saw some big gobs of fur, looked diown and saw my diamond lying on the ground. Unbelievable, I found my stone because of dog hair! Had it remounted and it;s been fine ever since. I'm married 31 years .It also rained on my weddibg day-seems I'm a magnet for bad luck.

The stone out of my engagement ring was lost at a yard sale.

My DH and I had been out on a Saturday morning, stopping in at a few yard sales. At one sale we parked right in front of where th tables were set up, and we walked around looking, but didn't buy anything.

I had a habit of constantly making sure that my rings were lined up right on my finger. As we got back into the car I started to check the rings. The center stone was gone from the engagement ring.

We looked all around the tables, in the grass, every where. Couldn't find it. I sat in the car and cried. DH said we would just get another one. Then I cried harder and said I don't want another one! That ring had its on story and no other ring could replace it!! We never replaced it.

I lost my diamond twice from my ring - the first time, it was just the stone. It fell out as I was opening my apartment door. Fortunately I saw something fall and was able to retrieve it. The second time, the whole setting fell off. I did find it and have kept it but I usually wear only the wedding band. I'm not going to try my luck for a third time.

No, Jannie, you're not a magnet for bad luck. Rain on your wedding day is a sign for GOOD luck (really!!) -- and that's why you were able to find your diamond!!
