I think Marilyn has also rehabbed raccoons or at least knows something about them.I seem to remember her talking about them.I could be wrong. Sounds like you already know what you are not suppose to be doing Glenda.My brother use to go "coon" hunting with my uncle when he was a kid.I know,cruel but that was back in the late 50's.One night they found a baby raccoon and DB brought it home and raised it.It was so cute when it was a baby and so much fun to watch but as it got older it got mean.He ended up taking it back to where he originally found it and let it go.

He's doing great. He also has a friend now, named Ralphie, a long haired, orange kitten. Someone called me and said they had a feral kitten and wanted me to take it. You know, you seldom get the real stories on animals that people want you to take. The story was that his mother abandoned him, but he was about the same age as Favio, maybe a week older. I told them, no, animals aren't like people. They don't abandon their babies....at least no mama cat is going to abandon a kitten that big....maybe she was killed. So I went to see the kitten, and he was a cute little thing, but definitely not feral. Feral kittens hiss and spit. The only thing this one did was cry all the time. So, I think the real reason she was getting rid of it, she got the kitten, and it was too young to leave it's mother and so it cried all the time, and she told me "it won't shut up". So, I figured he would be good company for Favio. I named him Ralphie....and no, he doesn't cry any more. It has been a big help to me, to have two kittens. Fav was used to being by himself and didn't cry, but he needed company to play with and Ralphie has worked out perfectly. My daughter had said she was looking for an orange kitten, so I offered Ralphie to her, but I didn't think she would take him because last I heard, they were looking at an older cat at the shelter, and anyway, he is Fav's friend, so he will be staying here with Favio. Favio has done exceptionally well, but I admit to worrying more about him than any baby I have ever raised. He was a little slow to switch over to solid food....Ralphie helped with that. An older cat here comes in and she likes them and bathes them....so they have a "nanny". :D I am going to try and get a better picture of Favio and will post it in a few minutes. I woke Ralpie up to take his picture...so he looks sleepy in the picture. Will try to get a better one of him soon. Anyway, they are both doing great, and Fav is so special to me. He is so cuddly because he is used to being held. He almost never is still....plays all the time. Ralphie isn't quite as affectionate as Favio, but he sleeps next to me and he loves being combed. I use a flea comb on them because their nanny is an outside cat and when she comes in, sometimes she brings a flea or two. I flea comb both of them two or three times a day. When I comb Ralphie, he "fleas" me in return....gently chewing on my arm. They are the sweetest babies and extra special to me. If anyone ever has the chance to raise an orphan, it takes a lot of dedication....they need to be fed every couple of hours starting out, but they are the most affectionate and cuddly cats you will ever have. Sure. I always have baby possums. I have 12 of them right now. This year I raised my first really tiny one...just barely had any hair down his back. He would have been a good one to follow, altho it is a miracle that he made it. I lost his 4 siblings, and almost lost him several times. Funny thing...today I was at a nursery with a friend and fellow rehabber and she told me it is against the rules of our organization to post any pictures of the animals on the internet. People within the group are very hesitant to email pictures of the animals to each other. I don't understand that at all. I mean, I can understand people not wanting to put the pictures of their children on the internet, but animals...especially if you stress that they aren't being raised as pets...I don't get it. I have always posted pictures of my animals, and I don't think I will stop now. If anything, I see it as a good thing because it helps to raise awareness about wildlife...especially possums which aren't pretty and get a lot of abuse, simply because people are ignorant about them. I have received many emails from people requesting help that came to know about my interest in wildlife from the forums. One lady wrote me to find out what to do about a possum that had made his winter home on her back porch. Since she lived in a northern climate, I told her it would be kindness to let him spend the winter there. She ended up doing that, and putting out special food for him and becoming very attached to him. He left in the spring, and she never saw him again, but another little possum has started coming around, and she enjoys watching him. So that's a good thing that has come from writing about the animals and showing their pictures on the internet. You know, the way I feel about it....if they don't like it, they can come pick up the 38 possums that I have here now. I don't think they want to do that....I think they need me to keep on doing what I am doing. I am not really anxious to take on another baby that needs such round the clock care right now. But, really, I take what shows up. The only reason I took Vernon was because the woman who had him, was keeping him in a box with a 3 week old skunk and a 4 week old raccoon. That was just horrible. She said he liked their fur, but they had sharp claws and he would have been raked to shreds. That is the only reason I asked for him. Later I went back and asked for the skunk, and she gave him to me. I didn't write about him, because he died before he even made it through the night, and the reason he died was because he wasn't being fed properly or often enough. He should have been fed every 2 to 3 hours and she said she fed him 4 times a day, so I figure if she said that, then he probably got fed twice a day. I could use a little break right now, but if something else comes my way, I will post pics and tell about it. Thank you for your interest in them....

I just checked and the albums are set to everyone. I will try to figure out what the problem is. I do think you have to be a member of facebook. I think there is a link that you can click so that anyone can view the pictures. I will try that and maybe it will work.
