Sure. I always have baby possums. I have 12 of them right now. This year I raised my first really tiny one...just barely had any hair down his back. He would have been a good one to follow, altho it is a miracle that he made it. I lost his 4 siblings, and almost lost him several times.

Funny thing...today I was at a nursery with a friend and fellow rehabber and she told me it is against the rules of our organization to post any pictures of the animals on the internet. People within the group are very hesitant to email pictures of the animals to each other. I don't understand that at all. I mean, I can understand people not wanting to put the pictures of their children on the internet, but animals...especially if you stress that they aren't being raised as pets...I don't get it. I have always posted pictures of my animals, and I don't think I will stop now. If anything, I see it as a good thing because it helps to raise awareness about wildlife...especially possums which aren't pretty and get a lot of abuse, simply because people are ignorant about them.

I have received many emails from people requesting help that came to know about my interest in wildlife from the forums.
One lady wrote me to find out what to do about a possum that had made his winter home on her back porch. Since she lived in a northern climate, I told her it would be kindness to let him spend the winter there. She ended up doing that, and putting out special food for him and becoming very attached to him. He left in the spring, and she never saw him again, but another little possum has started coming around, and she enjoys watching him. So that's a good thing that has come from writing about the animals and showing their pictures on the internet.

You know, the way I feel about it....if they don't like it, they can come pick up the 38 possums that I have here now. I don't think they want to do that....I think they need me to keep on doing what I am doing.

I am not really anxious to take on another baby that needs such round the clock care right now. But, really, I take what shows up. The only reason I took Vernon was because the woman who had him, was keeping him in a box with a 3 week old skunk and a 4 week old raccoon. That was just horrible. She said he liked their fur, but they had sharp claws and he would have been raked to shreds. That is the only reason I asked for him. Later I went back and asked for the skunk, and she gave him to me. I didn't write about him, because he died before he even made it through the night, and the reason he died was because he wasn't being fed properly or often enough. He should have been fed every 2 to 3 hours and she said she fed him 4 times a day, so I figure if she said that, then he probably got fed twice a day.

I could use a little break right now, but if something else comes my way, I will post pics and tell about it.

Not post pictures??? What a dumb rule. You have done so much to educate so many of us about possums. I used to really hate seeing them. They really gave me the creeps. But thanks to you I no longer feel that way and I'm sure your pictures helped make that happen. So post many and often.

I think you should be able to post pictures of the ones you raise. To see them progressing visually helps me understand what it takes to rear them from baby to adult. Keep up the good work! vique
