Have a question about roombas

I need some help please. Does anyone have a roomba and use it on laminate floors? How does it do? Does it scratch the laminate or leave brush strokes? Thanks for any info you can provide. I appreciate it.

No, it doesn't scratch my laminate floor and no brush strokes are left on it. It has a little brush that sweeps dirt into the path of the sucker-upper thingie. I think the newer ones have 2 brushes; mine has just one brush.

Technical terminology there. LOL

sucker-upper thingie = Vacuum with Debris bin =/replaces vacuum bag. LOL
Roomba has 3 brushes a hard rubber beater brush, a softer bristle brush and the side brush (that is the one that gets edges of furniture and base boards sweeping the yucky stuff into the vacuum). They sweep and vacuum all types of flooring. I have not seen any scratches on any flooring from the Roomba Vacuums.
The Dirt Dog Sweeper robot for garages and patio sweeping is going to have stiffer brushes for the concrete and tile flooring it is made for so I wouldn't use a DD on laminates or wood flooring.
Using the Roomba often (at least 3 times a week if not more is best for the robot battery life span. Keeping the brushes and filter very clean is also a way to save on the life of the battery and robot. Don't forget to register your robot with the tech support department to get 15% off your first order of accessories. I recommend a replenish kit and at least 2 pks of filters and wait for on of the days they offer Free ground shipping in the Continental U.S. for the best savings on just maintenance stuff. Battery life time is about a year and a few months with just running once in a while and not leaving on charge for long periods of time.
Extra accessories available like the Aerovac bin and high capacity sweeper bin also can be very beneficial in some instants where you have shedding pets.

I love my Robots and won't be without them. I just got my new model Scooba 380 floor washing robot (way up from the 5800) and will be using it tomorrow.

If they're in pots and exposed to frost, move them to a protected location...these may not overwinter...depends on the coldness of your geographic location (if you freeze, they will be toast). P. "rubrum" is tender for an ornamental grass. If they survive, follow wanda's advice.

What is really cool about them is that you can let it go to work when you leave for the day or when you go to bed and when it runs low on battery power, it heads back to its docking station to recharge. One night I let it loose to clean the living room before heading to bed. I got into bed and then felt guilty that it was out in the living room working in the dark. I got up to check on it. I know this is an older post but my search didn’t unearth a newer one, I love my Roomba iRobot but we have a black area rug and it won’t go on it. Does anyone know how to get it to go on the rug? If not, This isn’t a huge deal because the majority of our house is hardwood or tile and , being older and with some arthritis, it’s worth the purchase price just to get the areas cleaned under the beds and .other places where I’d have to bend or reach too far. Also, do,I have to use the app? I like to manually put it in a room, close the door and let it clean the room. For instance , the guest room, which stays clean in between guests, and which I do clean regularly ( dust the bureaus, polish window glass, etc) but I like to freshen up before guests arrive. How do I do this without messing up the app or machine.? I’m new to the whole iRobot thing.

You are setting yourself up for disaster. Concrete slabs require glue down engineered. That is why it was developed, 50 years ago. And has been in constant successful use since. Engineered is "real wood". Solid wood on a slab requires an expensive roll on whole slab vapor retarder, testing again, then a polyurethane glue. And will still have issues. You cannot have your home get above 50% humidity, and that is really difficult when on a slab that just allows subsoil moisture to migrate right through as water vapor. Or, as liquid water, if your grading was wrong. Concrete is very porous. You sound like you are shopping to hear what you want to hear, instead of the actual reality. This is going to be a waste of money and a tearout.

I love my Roombas too. I have one up and one downstairs. I would love to have the Scooba, let us know how you like it Lil. I may have to save up for one as I sure have been wanting one.

We got one for Christmas from our son and hated it. The next time he came to visit, from NYC we gave it back to him.

I got the 400 for Christmas. We left it vacuuming our bedroom and went shopping. Came home to a clean room.

I'm curious as to what models the other posters have. I think mine is probably one of the lower end models, but we were pleased with the performance. With mine I'll have to unplug it and tell it to clean. I guess it will just stop whenever it thinks the room is clean or the battery is done since I don't have a home base.

Mine finally died but I loved it because DH ran it when I wasn't home and I never had to vacuum. It was great

Both of my Roombas are the same model, the low end ones, no visual walls and does not go back to the charging. When the battery is low it stops cleaning after about an hour of running around. I have large rooms downstairs and I always block off the room I want it to work in, such as kitchen, dining room and family room. With back and knee problems I really do appreciate not having to sweep all that area.

I have 4 of the low-end Roombas and run them every day. I'm always amazed at how much "stuff" they find.......lots of cat hair and dust. Also have a Scooba....I LOVE all my robots and wouldn't be without them.

Scooba worked really well on the sealed wood floor and on the press tiled (vinyl). It scrubbed up yucky sticky stuff with no problem, got the bulk of the water off the floor and the floor dried clean/not streaky using the natural floor enzyme cleaner and city water.
I have ceramic tile floors with wide and deep grout lines in the laundry/mud/pet grooming room that I took a dry mop to after the Scooba went over it because the fluid stayed in the grout lines. DH says he can re-do the grout this year and make it not so deep and put extra grout sealer on to see if that will work better. Otherwise I love the Scooba and I won't mind drying off one small floor to use it. Oh BTW the new natural floor cleaning solution smells nice too!

Mine is an older model too, the old red one. It has walls, but I don't use them. It doesn't go home to recharge itself.
