Shooting in Omaha Mall

There've been 5 people shot in the Westroads Mall in Omaha. One critical. Daughter called to make sure I wasn't out shopping.

I just walked past the TV in the L.R. and heard that on CNN. How tragic.

When it gets close to home, it really grabs our attention.

Sounds like 'bella' to me also. Not the BEST picture of Hoya bella I've seen, but it shows leaf structure and more importantly, the flowers. This plant blooms all flowers together, rather than setting blooms and showing them sequentially. The white petals are graced with a pinkish purple corona that resembles pink crystal. Let us know if this is close or no where near the plant you ended up with!

Thanks Dotmom, My DH is a teacher and athletic director so is in contact with teens on a daily basis. I know that he has taken the time to take some under his wing, it isn't the ones that are wild and out of control that may be the problem, it's any teen. Susie, I know tons have been said about the reasons why he did this and how he was in trouble. But it doesn't make a difference. From friends that knew him, he was an average kid, things just became too much for him. I still stand by if someone would have taken the time to talk with him, or reach out things would have been different. BTW his suspension happened the morning of the shooting, soon after being suspended he returned to the admin offices and went to the principal that had suspended him and shot her and when another principal came in he shot him too before fleeing and taking his own life. I think it was the last straw in this boys life. So sad for all involved. Stacie

We were out shopping....Jeff called to tell us NOT to go over there....

Two people just shooting ramdomly....Well they have two "suspects" being held right now.

They have about 100 people in J.C. Penney and about the same in Yonkers...just to try to keep them safe. I hope if there are still more shooters that they don't get into either of those stores. The police are not letting people out of the mall.

They said there was one male with a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head. He was in the customer service area. Maybe he was after money from there, trying to rob the place? Don't know. They've arrested 2 other males in camouflage at a bus stop just north of the mall. They don't know if they're related to the shooting or not.
President is in the city today, or was to be. What if they did this to draw all the police/security off to some other area, leaving less in the area of the President? To many movies for me? But it could happen.

News said the President had left before any of this went down.

It is so scary!

I just heard an update...they said the shooter is still on the loose.

But they didn't say where...

All those people "hiding" in Penney's feel safe...He could be among them.

I'm glad I'm home.

Glad to hear that both Leslie & Patti are at home!!! My bosses son & DIL live in Omaha, so of course he was watching CNN closely! Pray that they get these crazies and all those that were hurt turn out alright.

Leslie & Patti...please keep us updated on this. It was CNN for a while...not now tho.

Channel 6 is saying the gunman died of a self inflicted gun shot to the head. They've take 2 bus loads of witnesses somewhere to get statements. News conference just saying, 9 died, 5 injured.

Also just said there was a suicide note left by a 19 year old saying he 'was going out in style'. He shot up a teddy bear.

I just visited my friends, Chad and Andrea, in Bellvue over Thanksgiving. I called them a few minutes ago; they're safe but watching the local news.

"7 or 9 people are dead, 5 or 7 people in hospital and some of them critical", is what she's heard as of about 4:15 p.m.

This is so tragic. Andrea and I hit the malls while we were there. Everyone was so happy and festive, and then for this to happen.

Thank you for posting this. My mom went on a mystery trip and they were going to Westroads. We haven't been able to get ahold of her yet. This is such a tragedy. Will let you know when we hear from my mom.

Just checked with my brother and SIL in Omaha, they went shopping today, but at the Crossroads - not the Westroads! I told DH you just never know what your day will bring you, do you? Just an innocent trip to the mall to do some shopping. 9 dead, including the shooter, 5 injured, 2 of them critically. 19-yr old shooter, left a suicide note, and I think the local news mentioned he had just been fired from a job this morning.

Just heard from my mom. They were less than a half hour from stopping at westroads. I was so frantc I even calledOmaha police department. They did tell me that she wasn't one of the dead or injured.

this even made the teletext news in England last night........Glad to hear my KT friends are safe, so sad for the families of those who died or were injured. Also sad that killing other innocent people makes some "weirdo" feel important. It's hard to understand what goes on in some people's mind.
