Did Swiss Colony give you a tracking number? Using a tracking number, I learned that my expected package left our post office with the carrier today. I'm on the lookout!

No tracking number. That's the first thing I did when I saw the mail truck go by, go to the Swiss Colony website. All I have is an order number, which as I stated above told me my package had been shipped on Dec. 16th. I wonder if Fed Ex will deliver it instead? The invoice said delivery will be by "Postal Service". I assumed that was the Post Office. I guess I'd better stay here all day in case SOMEBODY delivers it and it doesn't sit on my porch unattended. Maybe have to do the same tomorrow. ugh. Our family Christmas is the 24th. at noon. :(

With all the talk about stolen packages I'll be paranoid that I wasn't home when or if it came one day this week.

This time of year, in our area, the mail and packages are delivered separately. One day last week, I got my mail in the morning, from the usual guy in the jeep, then hours later, another employee in a USPS station wagon delivered a package to me.

But even if it IS delivered today.... who would eat a cheesecake that's been unrefrigerated for 6 days? If it does arrive, and you decide to give it to your FIL, PLEASE let him know how long it took to be delivered. I'm assuming he's an older gentleman, and that could mean the difference between something that's merely an inconvenience (to the middle-aged) and a SERIOUS health issue. I don't care how well the thing was packed, NO REFRIGERATED item should be shipped any way but overnight.

I was wondering about the length of time to deliver it, also. I've made many a cheesecake and just knowing what goes into one, don't think I'd want it in transit for a week. Seems bad on their part to have mailed it on a Friday. I used to order from Swiss Colony, but after 2 orders which didn't taste like the Swiss Colony of old, I stopped. I hope your results are better.

My aunt ask me was I sure there was no tracking info and to go back to the site and look. Well, sure enough, I found that option but had to click on "Will deliver by Postal Service" and then found the tracking info on s drop down menu. Duh.
It says:

"Your item arrived at 1:57 pm on December 22, 2011 at (the city) Post Office. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later."

So, it must have arrived after the mailman began his route. It will probably be here tomorrow or perhaps tonight yet by some other PO means. I would hope The Swiss Colony has enough experience to know when and how to ship a cheesecake. My aunt says she's had items shipped with dry ice, i.e. from Omaha Steaks,ect. I don't know, this is my first experience.

Schoolhouse, according to tracking for two DVDs we ordered, it said they were delivered here on Dec. 21 at 2:06, but it must have been just as you said in your last post because they got to our house today, the 22nd. Hope you'll get the cheesecake tomorrow and that it will be packed so it is safe to eat. Such a nice thought you had for stepdad.

Well, I just got off the phone with Swiss Colony again because I was concerned about how their food items were sent to guarantee freshness. She said food packages are sent in refrigerated trucks and besides that the cheesecake is packed so that all the air is drawn out(something like that)and it certainly can sit in a Post Office for one day. In fact, the method of packaging is so that in case a person were to forget and lay it aside for 48hrs.(or more) it still isn't going to spoil unless it's sitting in 107 degree temps.

Now, she didn't say what the cheesecake will actually look like when I open it, but I'm not too worried.

You should have pulled him over and checked if his breath smelled like cheesecake lol!

If the truth was told those commercially made food items have so much preservatives in them you could probably put it on the shelf for next Christmas and it will be okay

Well, I just checked the tracking, and the cheesecake left the Post Office at 9:16am this morning so it should be here around 1pm. All I gotta say is this thing better look and taste good. Maybe I'll ask the mailman about the latter.

I've got advice for everyone-Don't order perishable food items to be delivered for Christmas. I once received a cheese and sausage assortment from Swiss Colony (from my sister) and the cheese arrived moldy. I once sent Montana Mills Bread to several relatives. One person set the box under her tree and waited to Cristmas to open it, and it was totally spoiled. Now these "arrived" so there's no complaint about stealing. I'm just saying-don't send perishable food as a gift!

Jannie, I fully understand what you are saying but have to add, "Unless you use expedited shipping". We send a lot of food to a lot of folks, at Christmas and at other times of the year. On Monday I just shipped 97 packages of a dozen cupcakes per package from Georgetown Cupcakes to companies all over the country. Every one of them arrived on Tuesday. Unfortunately even expedited shipping can't help the ones that put the box under the tree! LOL!!!

It came around a little before 1pm. I wasn't going to open it, but curiosity got the best of me. It's alot smaller than I expected, and only about 1", 1.5" high it seems. It's in the fridge. Thank you all for following the cheesecake saga and for all the fun.

Speaking of funny, I wasn't going to tell this but I still smile whenever I think about it. I went to the market in the city for some last minute items and there amongst all the bakery items sat German Chocolate Cheesecake - for $13.99....... :)

Schoolhouse...I suggest gifting that mailman the cheesecake.
