If you're focusing on catching her and calling her out, you're just training her to be a "better" liar. I know some may not like or understand my toothbrush example..but the bottom line is, you should generally be able to be a step ahead of a 6 yr old and know if they are lying or not. Again, don't try to "catch" them or ask them questions they will probably want to lie about. You are conditioning her. I never caught my oldest lying about things. It was almsot like he didn't know it was an option and that he even could lie. He just didn't. Lying is not innate in kids, it is learned. You are teaching her to lie by calling the action out or asking her questions she may want to lie about. Use statements, not questions. Ignore lies or talk through them nicely without saying/implying they are lies... Laughter is even good if the kid is innnocently telling a tall story. Sometimes all they really want is attention. If she's not listening to the lying stories, she's too young to understand them. The age of reason is closer to 7 or 8 for most kids. Most don't understand they are lying or that it is bad no matter how often you tell them or what stories you read to them. Those that don't lie aren't better kids, their conditioning or discipline is just different. You're indirectly labeling your child as a liar and she's living up to your expectations. Take your label and your assumption away...treat her as an innocent child, and I truly think you will have better luck.

Hi Teresa, there you are! :) Doc is talking about induction at 38 weeks (which for me is April 23rd) which means I might have the baby on April 24th! Which I might mention is also my mom and uncle's birthday's. My blood pressure has been fluctuating greatly going from very high to normal limits over the span of the day. Bed rest doesn't work, we tried that over the weekend and it still went wonky. We have no clue why, but I have been to the hospital 4 times for a non-stress test and baby is fine, as well as the ultrasounds--good fluid levels--and no protein in my urine, so preeclampsia isn't here...yet. And oh, yes, I'm still working! People keep asking when my last day is and I tell them "when the baby comes out." I can't take the extra leave, so I just sit all day and teach from my desk chair in the front of the room. My due date (40 weeks) is May 7th, and I was hoping to make it to May 1st, as I want our boy to have a different birthday from the rest of the family, so I'll shoot for May 1, if they'll let me! And if one more person tells me "You're about to pop," I'm going to pop them! Going in for another Ultrasound tomorrow to check the fluid and BP again. More bloodwork and urine collection...the joys of pregnancy!

Thanks so much for the good wishes. While I wasn't born on Friday the 13th it does fall that way every few years. I am 59 today. I went on the Social Security website to decide when to retire. If I get a divorce(I've been separated for 5 years) I will be able to retire at 62 because I can draw off my first husband and he has made four times the money I have. We were married 24 years when he left. Hope I live long enough to retire!!!! If I don't I believe I will be in a very heavenly place anyway. Love Yall.

So sorry about the loss of your dear son. Can't imagine your pain. My sister lost her only daughter 7 years ago to cancer at age 29. She was like my own baby girl. She was so tough. Made jokes about the cancer right up to the end. We used to have a heavy competition with games on her Atari when she was 9-10 or so. When she called me in to say her goodbyes, she said that whenever I see a blank TV or computer screen she would be playing Atari with me from heaven. I had totally forgotten about it, it had been so long. She left each of us with such personal goodbyes. She asked me to take care of her mom, she said mom will be busy taking care of her brothers and my niece's own little boys but mom needed looking after too. One of our favorite moments was after a month or more of not being able to keep down a single drop of water, she asked for a beer. So at 9:00 in the morning, her brother smuggled in a 12 pack. And my niece, her brothers, her parents, doctor and her pastor had their beers. Niece had 2! She didn't feel too well the next morning, but she felt triumphant at her accomplishment.
