Wonderful news-- congratulations! I really think when you're working with that size budget, your job should be a paid position, even if it doesn't pay what it's worth. Seriously, if you're going to be putting in as many hours as you do on your job, a salary might allow you hire someone to take up a few hours of your regular work now and then. I know you're doing what you do as a labor of love, and I really admire you for it--- I'd just hate to see you burn out. Delagating responsibility is important, but it can be difficult to find people who agree to help...and not everyone who says they'll help will actually come through. Is there some kind of a board that you could ask to consider awarding you a stipend? There are only so many hours in the day. You're looking at two full-times jobs, both emotionally demanding! If you've got a good, enthusiastic group, maybe it will get easier. It's really wonderful of you to take the project on -- and really great that you got the funding! Just take care of yourself so you've still got your best to give :)

Photo 1 is an Amaryllis Photo 2 is Hydrangea ... and some type of small-leaved, small-bloomed rose. With blooming plants, you need to cut off the dead blooms to keep the plant looking neat (and to encourage more bloom). You can cut and discard anything that looks dead ... Photo 3 is an ornamental grass. Photo 4 looks like a rose plant. Photo 5 is Clematis. Photos 6 and 7 is that small-leaved rose I mentioned earlier. It looks healthy enough ... just needs some cleaning up ... (Google "Fairy Rose") Photo 8 looks like a creeping variety of Euonymus Fortunei ... a common ground-cover plant. Photo 9 looks like a Magnolia ... or close relative. Photo 10 is irises. They probably won't bloom well in the shade. Photo 11 is an common small ornamental plant. Don't know the name, but I've seen it planted .. And photo 12 is the ornamental grass again.

Susan, Like Jeff, I am a bit puzzled that chamomile gives you trouble and can only guess that maybe your soil holds either more moisture than ours, or holds on to the moisture a bit longer. Chamomile, as near as I can tell from growing it for many years, likes really well-drained soil that verges on being almost dry. I have had it reseed itself into clay that holds quite a bit of moisture and it even did well there....and, in fact, got bigger in that thick clay than in my improved garden soil in my raised veggie/herb beds. But, just because it seems to thrive in drier soil doesn't mean it won't grow in somethat moister soil. When mine are in moister soil, they just get significantly larger. I keep them deadheaded (the dried flowers make great chamomile tea) and that keeps 'em going longer tool. When allowed to set seed at the end of the season, they drop a lot of seed and, thus, reseed like mad and I have dozens, if not hundreds, of new ones come up every year. As for dill.....I have never noticed that the heat is particularly hard on it. Of course, I like to harvest the foliage to dry for dill weed and, by doing that, I am keeping it from setting seed, so it does last a whole lot longer. The minute it sets seed, though, poof...it is done! I usually cut and harvest dill weed for a long time before I let it go to seed so I can then harvest the dill seed. Jeff, Chamomile seedlings look very similar to the adult plant, just smaller and thinner. They are very, very thin and wispy, almost feathery looking when they emerge. They are that lovely light spring green, almost a Granny Smith apple type of green. When they first emerge, they are very, very small but they grow pretty quicly. Once you see a chamomile seedling, you'll never forget it because it has a unique delicate look. Also, the foliage has a delightful scent--sort of sweet and somewhat like apples. I don't know if the scent is apparent when they are really tiny, but I know that I can smell it when I dig up small seedlings out of the pathways and transplant them somewhere else. As for the tomatoes cracking, it would have been unusual if they HADN'T cracked in last year's rain. Hopefully this year will be drier. Once your fruit are ripening, keep the watering to a minimum and that will both decrease the cracking and intensify the flavor. OK, I only came inside to grab a quick bite to eat. Now I need to get back out to the garden where I am, in fact, transplanting chamomile seedlings from the pathway to a tomato bed. Dawn

New Vinyl Windows...I've got a question

Thought I'd let you know how it all turned out. We spent all day on the internet, calling salesmen and checking out what the various ratings all meant. I swear that we could be window salesmen now!! The chambers give you added strength as well. The waaaaay more expensive Vinyltech Sears windows had 12 chambers, 1 more seal but you pay for additional openings. The Amsco windows are a lower grade at 5 chambers, but all the openings are included, 1 less seal (which doesn't matter as long as they are installed properly), low e coating included and have a nicer finish inside because they use 1/4" round inside the frame to block off an ugly looking "crack". The company using these windows will also fix the problems with our Sears installation by adding more caulking to those windows. Basically, we chose the cheaper windows (by 1/2 the price!!) because we didn't need a Ferrari in the basement when a Volvo would do....and we're hoping to be much happier with their installation crew. What wonderful news! Little boys are great.....girls are too but I found that boys were easier to deal with when they were growing up.

Yippee! I have 1 son and 5 grands, so I know a thing or two about boys! Of course, I also have 2 daughters and 3 grand daughters, so I know a thing or two about girls! You're in luck b/c you have all these experienced mothers and grandmothers here to help you out and give you advice. Lucky you! Lucky baby!!

Thanks everyone!! I was actually SURE it was a girl, but I'm glad I was wrong...a boy is what we secretly wanted first. :) Steph was right when she said in my other post that she could see me with a boy...I do well with little boys!

The fetal specialist is worried about one little thing. I have Marginal Placenta Previa, a condition which the doctor feels confident will right itself before our next visit in 4 weeks. I also have to start taking one baby aspirin a day until baby is here to help prevent preeclampsia.

Wonderful news....There's something about boys....I had 3 before I got my girl, then had another boy and those 4 boys were so much easier and at times, much closer than our daughter...Of course now that they're all grown and married, my DD and I are very, very close....

Congrats on your baby boy!!! Towards the end of my pregnancy I was secretly hoping for a girl and I got her!

Re: the placenta previa. I hope everything rights itself asap-would there be any chance you'd have to go on bedrest?

I was placenta previa early on in my last pregnancy too. It cleared up. The doctor said to think of a balloon you are blowing up. Put a dot close to the neck of the balloon when it has just a little air in it, and then blow it up all the way. The dot will move away from the neck, much as the placenta will move away from the cervix. Sometimes modern medicine lets us know too much for our own good or peace of mind.

Thanks all again, and thanks to you who gave some insight on previa. I'm probably in good shape with it clearing up by next checkup in a month.

We're actually keeping the name we chose a secret, but it is no secret that DH couldn't agree on a girl name!!

Congratulations! Our first was a boy...and so was our second. Our girl was baby #3. I never had brothers, so having boys was new to me. My DH wanted boys because he only had brothers and didn't know what to do with a girl. (He's had to figure it out, though, with our DD.)

As for the possibility of placenta previa, my girlfriend was told the same thing but everything was fine. I hope it will be for you, too.
