Anyone here use a French Press?

Socks' post got me to thinking! Does anyone else besides me use a French Press to make coffee? I use it every single day! We don't own a coffee maker, but we drink coffee daily. Nothing but glass and metal, so it's really easy to keep clean!

I love my french press. I use a percolater for the first cuppa because my brain doesn't function till I have coffee but any other coffee I make during the day I use the french press. It's fun to do it when a friend comes over because so many have never even seen a french press and I make a little production out of using it.

I use Easy Cast Resin (available at Michael's and craft stores) You can buy mold on the internet that are a special plastic. I have these and they work nice but then I found these heart and star shape pans made out of silicon at the dollar store and I really like them. Read the instruction on the resin. It is easy to work with and little to no smell. I press my flowers and make sure they are really dry. This is how I press and dry my flowers http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/dried/msg051841159718.html?5 I pour a little of the mixed resin in and place flowers in, press them down with my finger to release any air under the flower and then add the rest of the resin mixture. Make sure you had a level surface. I use the small bathroom dixie cups to measure and mix my resin in. If you have any further questions ask away.

I have a book, The Pressed Plant by Andrea DiNoto and David Winter which included 8 pages of instructions on collecting seaweeds originally from a book published in 1891. There was a craze on both sides of the Atlantic for botanizing, The examples they show were indeed beautiful. Check your library ..I think you'd really enjoy the book. If need be, they can probably get it for you thru interlibrary loan. One tip that is given is that you can spread out all but the most delicate of your specimens on the sand to dry, then even weeks later place them in seawater or salted water to become flexible again. They mention that in the case of the most delicate, just place them in a handful of dry sand to dry. Sand may actually adhere but will help keep the small strands separate and untangled. When soaked later in salt water, the sand will wash off easily when you have adequate time for completing the arrangement of specimens for drying. Let us know of you experiments and results. josh

Electrolux Appliances: Anyone have French Door Fridge, Range, DW

deirdref: Thanks for the link - I've been there already (that's how I found out the Wave touch has 3 baskets and the IQ has 2 freezer baskets). I guess I didn't pay attention to the other details like the "cool zone" and "perfect temp drawer" because I'm so focused on the freezer compartment. I'm going to have to speak to my contact at Electrolux (she said I can call her anytime) again and double check on the configuration of both freezers. If the specs say they have the same volume, I wonder if she was wrong when she told me the wave touch was configured differently in the freezer to give it more room than the IQ model. I'd love to see them both side by side. The rebate we got was not with Sears - it was through Electrolux so anyone could apply for it no matter where they buy their appliances as long as it is within the time period that Electrolux stated on the rebate form. Didn't the store you bought it at tell you? With the first offer, you had to buy before June 12th and the second rebate offer was between June 13th or 15th until the 30th. I qualified for the second and just mailed in my form to Electrolux (I had until August 10th to mail it but the purchase date had to be between the dates I mentioned). I also got a better price than what Sears was offering becuase I went to other several stores and Sears did a price match. When did you purchase your appliances and how many did you buy?

paint colours; gray mist and french press

HI again, I guess a better question to ask is does anyone have a brown paint colour that they'd recommend? (French Press is a new BM colour) Benjamin Moore is preferred, but would also look at Sherwin WIlliams or Pratt & Lambert. I'd like to do a rich, chocolate brown on 1 bedroom wall and a softer shade to co-ordinate with the brown on the remaining walls... Thanks for any feedback on a brown:) L.

I use one during the week if I'm especially tired in the morning and I need caffeine for the drive (just about everyday now that Dan's teeth have started coming in). It's the easiest and fastest method to make one cup of coffee. I have a Senseo machine but it took up a lot of counter space so I packed it away. The French press coffee is better and doesn't take up any counter space.

PS. Mine is a little one (makes one cup at a time) from the camping section of a sporting goods store. It's plastic and it has an insulated cover to keep the coffee warm while I make it which helps since we keep our house cold.

I bought one in Buenos Aires in 2006 and have yet to use it because it was packed for our 2007-06 kitchen remodel.

I have one but don't use it often. Usually only when I have real fresh whipped cream. Why? Because French pressed coffee tastes the best with whipped cream on top. Yum! I also have an espresso machine, a 10 cup Kitchen aid coffee machine, a Senseo coffee machine, a travel mug coffee machine, and a stove top per. I gave my drip Melitta pot to my son in law. LOL

Do I like coffee? Just a little.....

Oh! I should also add, my Starbucks travel mug is a French press too! I love it better than your average travel mug because this one seals shut night and tight and won't leak at all. You can use it as a regular travel mug, or you can use it as a bodum.

I'm showing my ignorance here. I love the look of a French Press coffee pot, but have no idea how to use one.

Could you tell me, step-by-step, how to use it? I may get DH one for Christmas.

I have a glass one that stays in my luggage, along with a ceramic cup and immersion heater.
For trips into the boonies when there's no coffee maker in the hotel room.

To lazy to type it all out so I copied it from a web site...

Directions
1. Remove the plunger unit from the French Press. Warm the French Press and each cup with hot water if you wish. Be sure to discard the warming water before pouring the coffee.
2. For each four-ounce cup of coffee grind 2 T (or one standard coffee scoop) of whole bean coffee. Dark roasted, oily beans are traditionally used. Use only coarsely ground coffee as fine grind (such as for expresso)coffee may clog the filter and create high pressure. We recommend Specialty Coffee from Costa Rica.
3. Place the coffee in the bottom of the French Press. Be sure to discard the warming water if you used it.
4. Add hot, not boiling water to the pot. Leave a minimum of one inch at the top. Stir gently.
5. Place the plunger unit back on top of pot. Turn the lid to close off the pour spout opening. Do NOT press down at this point. Allow the coffee to brew for at least four minutes.
6. Hold the pot handle firmly with the spout turned away from you. Use the weight of your hand to apply slight pressure on top of the knob and lower the plunger straight down into the pot. Lowering the plunger slowly with minimal pressure produces the best results. Do not use excessive force, which can cause scalding liquid to shoot out of the pot. Turn the lid open the pour spout and pour coffee.
