First book that comes to mind is Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Could Not Put It Down!!

Check out the 'Chicken Soup' books - they are all personal stories that will make it difficult to put the book down.

The most engrossing book I ever read is a two book series by Herman Wouk - Winds of War and then War and Remembrance.

It's historical fiction concerning a family immersed in WW2. Every chapter ends with someone in a cliff hanger situation, it then switches to another family member and doesn't return to each cliff hanger for several chapters. Hence, you keep reading and reading. I read it years ago but it caused me to pull severall all-nighters because of the suspense. It's a masterful work.

Further, I found James Clavell's books [Shogun...for one] in the same arena. I was heartbroken when the world lost him a few years back. Fortunately...for me...I own all of his works and revisit them from time-to-time on long winter's nights when I've run out of good English mysteries. :-)

I wouldn't call this book a "thriller," but one of the best books I've read is Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand. It has 5,899 customer reviews (5,033 of which are 5-star reviews), and is rated 4.8 stars. Right now the price of the Kindle version is $6.99, but it is well worth it. (And, it shows up from time to time on the Pixel of Ink site as free or much less than $6.99.)

Another incredible true story (rated 4.7 stars) that I just finished reading two nights ago is Twelve Years a Slave, by Solomon Northup. It's currently $0.99.

Actually, you could, in a way, say that those first two books are thrillers, because you will be constantly amazed at what these men went through and you will find yourself unable to put the book down because you will want to find out what happens next and how they got through it.

For a good "thriller," you might want to check out Brainrush by Richard Bard. It's the first of three in the series. The second is The Enemy of my Enemy, and the third is Beyond Judgment. Each book (Kindle version) is $3.99. Brainrush has a 4.4 rating with 1,031 customer reviews (645 of which are 5-star and 246 are 4-star).

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. Stick with it for the first 100 or so pages. It starts slow then all Hell breaks loose. Some call it SI-Fi. It's not. It is history, love, adventure, war, peace, pirates. It has it all. Best book(s), it's a series, I have ever read. Diana Gabaldon is an incredible author.

True, Gone Girl holds your interest, but it's a really, really weird book! Based on your comments, I gather that you're not looking for the great American novel, just an easy read, and something that holds your attention. I always liked the Vince Flynn books, particularly his earlier ones. Term Limits is a great concept. Harlan Coben is another author I think you would like.

Based on what you like, I would suggest anything by Tess Gerritson or Lisa Gardner. I like the authors you mentioned, and really like these also.

David Baldacci's books are really good, and keep you on the edge of your seat. Two of his latest ("The Innocent" and "The Hit"--they feature the same character) are very good. He is also the author of the King and Maxwell series, upon which the TV show was based. His first book "Absolute Power" was made into a movie starring Clint Eastwood and Gene Hackman. The book was totally different from the movie, but was excellent.

Another author who really gets my heart rate up is Dr. Michael Palmer. All of his books are medical thrillers...and they are all excellent. I just wish he wrote more books, because I've read them all and want more!

My absolute favorite thriller of all time is "Vertical Run" by Joseph Garber.

Anything by Lisa Gardner will keep you reading until it's done. She writes mysteries very well and keeps you guessing.

I really enjoyed The Lincoln lawyer by Michael Connelly, because it was very fast-moving and had lots of exciting action and twists and turns. I featured it on Book of the Week, and Caroline posted a reply with the other books in this series. This is part of her reply -
There is an entire series of "Mickey Haller" series, which is Connelly's spin-off of his even longer "Harry (Hieronymus) Bosch" series. I've read, and enjoyed, every one of these books.

I love, love, love the In-Death series by J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts). I own every single book and I re-read them constantly. It's definitely light reading but I love her characters and story lines.

I have no idea what prices are like for downloads, just a recommendation for a great series!

I buy them all used on Amazon (often for pennies plus shipping), or at my library's ongoing used book sale. No idea what they're going for as e-books.

I'll echo the recommendation for Michael Connelly. His books are fantastic, I've read them all and always await the release of new books. They come out about one per year.

An interesting note about him - he was well into the writing of a Bosch story that involved a school shooting when the Connecticut school massacre occurred. He had to put it on a shelf and do a Mickey Haller book instead for this year's release

I've "met" him and chatted with him twice at book signings. He's a very modest fellow who feels fortunate to have become successful doing something he long aspired to do.
