Alkalinity does not discourage blackspot in roses. It WILL encourage chlorosis. Roses generally prefer a soil pH that is acidic, NOT alkaline. Comparing the correction of a misstatement to the Thought Police is unfair. Evoking that emotional response, however, could serve the purpose of making people think twice before pointing out those errors. I just find the "logic" provided to be so....illogical. Soil should be alkaline because citrus fruits cause mold and your cabbage proves it because of baking soda? Good lord, if we haven't talked enough on here about throwing cake ingredients all over our foliage. If Kate or I came here & said that insecticides increase healthy bee populations on our blooms, IN OUR BACKYARD, would everyone nod or would someone's head explode? Made me laugh, indeed. Back to the question in the original post-- I've never heard of or done root pruning, but then I don't have any roses growing in pots. I know there are quite a few folks here who DO successfully grow roses in containers. I know that mini's would be quite lovely in pots and it is possible to find some that have scent. Hopefully a couple of the folks that containter-grow their roses will chime in soon. I know the 2 biggest questions are usually: Which rose are you trying to grow in a container(answered), and What size is your container?

Isn't it great to see something finally happen like that? Can't wait to see the final result on both sides of the wall! I'm with you on the open concept thing. If I am cooking and have a mess in the kitchen when I am entertaining, I don't want to look at it nor have my guests see it. Geez, a long time ago kitchens weren't even in the house in wealthy residences! Not practical, of course, unless you have servants. :-) I guess for me, too, my kitchen is my 'hang out space'. I watch tv there while I am reading magazines, working on projects like floral arrangements or craft things. The kitchen table is my desk and work table.

Here I am, again. After a procedure to shoot foamy stuff into my enlarged varicose veins a couple of weeks ago, I have had to wear a squeezy stocking all the way to hip for two weeks on the treated leg - finishing yesterday (or today) ... ... and walk for half an hour, twice daily, for those two weeks. I've been fortunate, so far - as I live in the country, and made of salt (or is it sugar?) I wasn't impressed with the idea of walking in the rain ... ... and, fortunately, have been able to avoid it, so far. Today is the last day to do it, and the weather is pleasant. It was rather attractive doing it last night just after midnight, with moon either full or almost so. And son just suggested, this afternoon, that continuing that regimen might not do me any harm. I go back to using the knee-high squeezy sock on that leg, as on the other, as of tomorrow. However ... in a couple of weeks, I get another shot to shrink the veins, with the high-level sock and the two half-hour walks daily, for another two weeks. Then again, in both November and December. I have the feeling that my teeth may chatter for the first couple of minutes of walking, just before Christmas. However ... they tell me that this is the modern alternative to the reportedly painful surgery of stripping those veins, of earlier years ... and I'm thankful to say that the only discomfort that it caused me was the pinprick when they put in the needle. ole joyful ... with, I guess, a couple of walks yet to do, today - not dog-sitting, at present

I had to pay $76.00 copay when I got my new machine in August, and then I have to pay $9.23 per month for eight months. I think my insurance is paying at least 80% of the cost. I cannot go back to my old machine (even though it still works) because it does not have WiFi and therefore does not communicate directly with my doctor's office to let them know how much I am using it. In the past, I had to take the machine (or at least the memory card) to my doctor's office for him to read the card. CPAP machines can be bought a much lower prices than what places like Apria charge, but those places do not accept insurance. Places that do accept insurance overcharge the insurance IMO because of the hassle of dealing with insurance. If you need something like filters to go with the machine, they are cheaper to buy online than what the co-payment with insurance would be.
