I have what they call "house socks", which are nice, thick, furry socks. One has longer anklets, one none at all. They were a gift from my son a few years back, and I love them. Sorry, but they both have toe seams. I don't know how you would get socks with no toe seams. Not a knitter, so I couldn't speak to how you would make them. I know you could crochet them, but they would be sort of rough, I guess.

I would think "diabetic" socks wouldn't have a toe seam.
I love Merino wool socks. I buy them at sporting goods stores.
If your feet are cold, put on a knit hat. A lot of your body warmth goes out the top of your head.

I think you may like what I recently got on Ebay. They do however have a toe seam.

I originally ordered 6 pr (minimum) and loved them so well that I ordered 78 additional pairs. A friend wanted 'some' and I'm giving some of them as presents, and hopefully will have lots left for myself. The Ebay seller said she often sells 'out' in Jan or Feb, so don't hesitate if you think you might want to try them.

They are Merino wool, and oh so soft, and warm. I only wear the one pair at a time and don't layer them.

They are almost exactly like the Merino Smart Wool socks that sell for about $15 to $20 a pair.

I also got BF some to just have to wear while just lounging here or at his house.

You might try 6 pairs and see what you think. I'm sending you an email via GW. Since the GW email is unreliable, if you don't get it, get my addy from the GW email form and email me privately (non GW).

I just got myself some merino wools socks on HSN and I love them. No toe seam, not scratchy and I can throw them in the washer and dryer.

i HATE toe seams LOL! of course i wear socks maybe 5 times a yr, orlando, so it's not much of an issue. i recently found Smart Wool socks at Gander Mountain w/o toe seams, relatively thin and surprisingly not hot for FL and really warming when you need it. they come in cute patterns/colors and w/ embroidery, they were $15-18 a piece but are well made and i don't wear them out. ~ liz

The Merino wool socks I linked to above are $16.49 for 6 pr making them just $2.74 per pair. I have a pr of the actual Smart Wool brand socks given me by a friend last season (She paid about $15 a pr) and when I compared and weighed the 2, they appeared to be exactly the same.
The Ebay seller combined shipping on my huge order of 78 pairs and that made them considerable cheaper still.

Do you knit or know somebody who does? Because if you do, they can knit you a pair of socks to exactly fit your feet with grafted toes - so seams at all. If they knit them in a nice fine gauge (size US 3 needle or smaller) they won't be "bumpy" on the bottom for sure.

You want to look for a nice soft wool product - merino, kid merino that is called "superwash" which means you can wash it in the machine without worrying about ending up with felted socks for a barbie doll ;).

Alpaca is very warm, and can feel soft in the skein but my experience is that there are guard hairs mixed in that work their way out and make them a bit scratchy around the leg or sensitive areas.

I have bought diabetic socks. They are supposed to be looser so not binding and seamless yadda yadda. But I find they are knit/woven SO loose that they are abrasive on my feet and give me MORE blisters. I found some that I did like but they are delicate and at 20 dollars a pair, walking through them by the second wearing is not a good thing. I guess, like with anything, you have to find a brand that works for you.

Julie, go to bass pro. Not that I am a big fan of them, but they have WARM socks. The pair I bought my husband are wool hunting socks. They have a longer cuff, which increases the warm factor. But I don't remember what I paid for them.

Then I also bought some cashmere blend "girl" socks at Burlington. Drawback on girlie socks, the cuff is short.

Personally, with you not having any heat, I would go with the hunting socks!

I'm wearing them now but they do have a seam in the toe. I don't like to wear shoes in the house and these are really great

For a start try wearing your socks inside out! That way the main part of the seam is on the outside!
My sister knits me the nicest wool socks! No seams and they can be thrown in the washer, I suppose they could be dried in the dryer to but I hang them to dry just to be on the safe side.

I just got some at Bath and Body Works. They are soft, warm, seamless, and have non slips on the bottoms.

Look for Acorn brand socks. They are really fleecy and so warm. My DH is diabetic and these are the only brand he wears all winter long and the only ones that keep his feet warm. We are in the norther area of ND and even when the temps were below 0, he said his feet were ok. They have kind of a seam. You can get them from many places and Sierra trading post catalog sells them for about 1/2 price. Yes they are first's not second. The difference is the pattern is last years. I wash them in the washing machine, but do not dry in the dryer. Just lay them on the bed and they will dry so fast. I do use softner. They sell them all over. Go on line and they will tell you where you can get them.

I am diabetic and have had trouble with ulcers on my feet, so I have to be very carefull what I wear. The wound-care specilist I saw to heal the last ulcer I had, told me to always wear socks with toe seams inside out.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who goes mad over those dumb toe seams. I think I get it from my nana--she was always looking for socks without toe seams. Funny thing is, her feet were double-narrows, and I got duck feet. I have occasionally tried turning socks inside-out, but if that seam gets between my pinkie toe and the shoe, it's murder--inside-out or not!

Dances, you're the only knitter I know. Don't worry, I know you're busy. And I think the fluffery, intricate bits on the edge are very, very, very, very pretty, and the color's just perfect.

Yeah yeah, Liz, rub it in that you don't hafta wear socks! I love socks, but I LOVE going sockless. *sigh* Why do I hear an echo of someone saying "You'll catch your death of cold if you don't put some socks on!"

I'm looking at tmy feet now and yes the socks are inside out. The seams are really thick too but I don't feel them at all. I have even worn them that way with my sneakers. No one sees them when wearing long pants.
