It's been a long boring 4 days!

My DSL modem pooped out on me Friday morning as I was doing some online shopping and poof! The lights went out and I was cut off! The bad thing was I was getting some good deals online and couldn't finish my transactions! I called the phone company to see what it could be and she said the modem is no good and I couldn't order another one until Monday!! The DSL dept. was closed for the holiday weekend. I was so bummed! I had so much going on on Ebay and lost alot of bids, some good deals online and lost them as they were good for a limited time only AND I had to pay 80.00 for a modem! I get a 50.00 rebate on that but it still bummed me out! I managed to do some unfinished business though the next day on my son's computer. It is awful being cut off from the internet! I was thinking ...what if I NEVER got back online????? Think about it! Makes you wonder how you managed before the internet! I do so much of my daily stuff on here....what if it was just gone someday??? I shudder at the thought! LOL....anyway I have my companion back and I'm a happy camper!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and is ready to move on to Christmas!

Losing the internet almost feels like someone cut off your arm or killed your best friend. I don't know what we did without it. Glad your back online.

If the 10 yds for 400 cu ft is not a typo, I can understand why you tilled, since that would be about 8 inches of compost spread over the lawn. I don't know much about the process once you've tilled, but I think you're on the right track to have it graded instead of just trying to roll it. I'm not sure what effect that much compost will have on it in terms of keeping it level. If it's not mixed evenly, you could get some dips and valleys as the compost further breaks down. Since you're in Seattle, you should be ok to seed now. Your summers are pretty mild, and as long as you get your usual nine or ten days of rain each week, the seed will stay moist with no need for sprinklers. The rains you get there are really great for getting grass started. As a friend from Seattle once told me, "It doesn't rain a lot in Seattle. It just rains all the time." I didn't understand what he meant until I was there for a project. It rained almost every day, but I don't think I opened my umbrella the entire time.

You're not kidding about the Mums this year, Pat! This is only my first year growing them (during regular bloom time, anyway), and I'm very pleased with how mine did. The aphids and ants didn't seem to make much of a dent, either. :) Some day, I hope I get enough going to be able to share the beauty, too. My mom finally planted some Mums in the ground this year (yay!), and they're blooming their little heads off, as well. I inherited a largish jade plant from a neighbor this summer, and it has a nice cluster of blooms on it now. First time I've ever seen one bloom! My pineapple sage looks like a California Christmas tree, with its tall (4 ft.) stems lit up with glowing red blooms. I'm so glad I planted it out by the front fence so others can enjoy its beauty. The leaves from the gigantic, unknown trees haven't finished littering yet, but half the fun is removing them to see what plants are hiding underneath. LOL Happy Thanksgiving! Brenda

Having a day to "accomplish nothing" can be quite an accomplishment! Enjoy your day. I've been flat-on-my-back (or rather, upright-in-the-recliner, gasping-for-breath) sick since Feb. 12. Today is the first day I've felt like there is hope! I was actually hungry; my ribs are not hurting so much, and I can breath. Life is good. Three bouts of antibiotics, some steroids, which I hate to take, and various breathing aids have had very little effect on this terrible bug until now. I'm accomplishing nothing, either; except checking our the KT and watching the birds at the feeders.

It's amazing how dependent we can become to the internet, isn't it? When my modem went out about a year ago, it was 3 days till they came to replace it. Sometimes I think of dropping it to save money, but then I start thinking of all the things I couldn't do if I did. So I look to other ways to cut expenses instead. Glad you're back up and running.

Welcome back. I know the feeling. I hate having to go to the library. It's not so bad when kids are back in school, but if they're out, you always have to wait.
Since I do most of my banking on line now, I do have to get online sometimes.

I can totally relate, gwanny! I have been having alot of computer issues lately, too and mine gave up Sunday night. I had to actually go to the bank to pay my bills, it was quite a shock! (LOL - it wasn't that bad but certainly felt weird).
Got a temporary new windows and a temporary internet connection set up until we can figure out what the problem is.
I, too had ebay stuff ending so was really stressing about that.
In the end, all was well, my stuff all sold, bills are paid and I only had to go to the library once...
