I Am Still Married

I am still married and it has been 57 years today. It is really pretty out with the snow falling and the temperature is near 30. I am going to bake a couple of pies in a bit and a sweet potato casserole. I am baking a black raspberry and an apricot one to take tomorrow to the church dinner. I hope everyone is having a very nice day.

You're asking some interesting questions, but the answers will not get you any closer to where you need to be - you're asking questions about him, rather than about yourself (as alluded to here already). It sounds as if you don't want the affair to end. It makes perfect sense that once the secret is busted, that your lover wants nothing to do with it. He's probably afraid his wife will find out, and he's probably had a bit of reality shaken into his fantasy. What do YOU want? What does your husband want? Are you interested in what's going on with your husband at all? It is normal to go through a withdrawl when an affair ends. That very fact is abhorrent to those watching - it hurts. But the feelings don't turn off automatically - you have to WORK to end those feelings. That means quitting your job, attending to your marriage, getting to a place where you understand what that affair was serving for you. It's work, work, work. That's the price you pay for your error, and to regain trust with your husband. If you even care to.

I have been married about 20 yrs. My husband and I have 2 children, i also have 3 others from my previous marriage which they are grown now and have moved out, he has 4 children from his 2 previous marriage. About 4 yrs ago i started working at a hospital. There is this guy that also works at the hospital, and not to long ago i told him that i really liked him more than a friend, he said he already knew that. Weeks ago he expressed he had feelings for me as well. We started seeing each other at a rest area for about an hour or so. We tell each other that we love one another. We have only kissed and held each other, we talk about making love, but we haven't hit that level yet. Am i really in love and have strong feelings for this man or what can it be.He tells me that if i chose to be and make it work with my husband he would respect my choice and not bother me, he will countine to be my friend. But iam confused i don't know what to do because i don't want to hurt his feelings, he tells me he's happy and loves me. But i also love and care for my husband and i don't want my marriage to end, My husband is a great man, and i don't want to hurt him either especially our kids.I'am confused please advice me. Dulce

Just my opinion. But, in my personal experience I've learned something about "mentally messed up people". When a person CANNOT control themselves, MANY people who know them know about it. When a person is able to "control" themselves and "represent" themselves in a way that benefits them or in a way they feel helps them as far as how other people see them, they are NOT "mental. (EX. you know how out of control and awful she can be when she snaps, but other people have never seen that or have trouble believing she could ever be so unreasonable.) People like that are manipulative and cheat people with real mental struggles by giving mental illness a false representation. Be careful about how much you "write off" as her being nuts. It might feel like a less painful way to close the issue of "why?" with how she acts, but if you could make things worse by giving value to something that's a lie. If her ability to "function in a mature adult way" is in any way situation specific, then I suspect she's nothing more than a manipulative person. And, that, while it can be unbelievable hard to accept, is NOT a mental condition it's a choice of how to behave and deal with people. If she's not nuts, then don't make excuses for yourselves about standing firm on at least small things to start with. Start showing her that her rants will not make you guys cower or bend to her will.

You post doesn't make you sound very enthusiastic about this, Sue.

"I am still married," could mean you are celebrating (but you don't say you are). It could mean you are 'still living in the same house'. It could mean, "Nobody thought we'd stay married," or, "OMG, I had no idea how LONG we'd be married."

Thank you to all for the well wishes. No we did not celebrate. We have never celebrated an anniversary except for our 25th one and we had a family dinner here at home.

CONGRATULATIONS! My parents were married 62 years before my mother passed away. I remember when she said the years went by so fast. Now my husband and I will be married 36 years next month and it sure doesnt seem like it either. I remeber when my dads sister said how many times are they going to celebrate their anniversary. We celebrated there 25,40,50,55 and 60 and we thought what was it any of her business how many we celebrated. We thought it was worth it and as long as they were in good enough health to do it why not do it.
