I Am Still Married

I am still married and it has been 57 years today. It is really pretty out with the snow falling and the temperature is near 30. I am going to bake a couple of pies in a bit and a sweet potato casserole. I am baking a black raspberry and an apricot one to take tomorrow to the church dinner. I hope everyone is having a very nice day.

You're asking some interesting questions, but the answers will not get you any closer to where you need to be - you're asking questions about him, rather than about yourself (as alluded to here already). It sounds as if you don't want the affair to end. It makes perfect sense that once the secret is busted, that your lover wants nothing to do with it. He's probably afraid his wife will find out, and he's probably had a bit of reality shaken into his fantasy. What do YOU want? What does your husband want? Are you interested in what's going on with your husband at all? It is normal to go through a withdrawl when an affair ends. That very fact is abhorrent to those watching - it hurts. But the feelings don't turn off automatically - you have to WORK to end those feelings. That means quitting your job, attending to your marriage, getting to a place where you understand what that affair was serving for you. It's work, work, work. That's the price you pay for your error, and to regain trust with your husband. If you even care to.

So you were in love with this guy when you married husband number two? I don't understand how people can do that. I understand he may not have been attainable at that point, but how could you commit to someone else if you really loved him and how could he commit to and marry someone else if he really loved you. What's real is real, what is fantasy is fantasy. Fact is, he loved his first and second wives enough to marry them... not so about you. And, he obviously didn't care enough to wait arround for you. He goes to bed with his wife every night, not you. If you're married, quit communicating with men you are attracted to.. it's only going to cause heartache.

There are times I am not miserable but those times are fewer and fewer. Tari was his first love, he tried to find her before we started dating and did not. I had always like him and although I dated someone else; I ended it to date him Tari was married a few months before we were. They reconnected at an event the oldest daughter was at and they had lunches and so on but never told either spouse. It all ended up with them getting together one night and him not getting home until 1am; she has meetings one night a week for where she is employeed and her husband works two jobs and probably did not notice she was not home unless he was home alone. I am not to talk to him about it for after he lied the first time the therapist said I would never know the truth. It is just so hard not to think about things when the nights I have to be somewhere with the daughter he has a "work meeting" and then the date changes and so does the time. I just wish I could believe him but that is not going to happen; how do you forget the lies and the pain? If I could forget all the things he has said to me that were mean and so on; I could be happy but how to you rebuild trust when each time he lies again. I know he cannot afford the divorce right now but it is too miserable staying here and hurting. How can he hug me and say he loves me when he does not. I mean why tell someone if this was the case I would have divorced you; I wish we were not together. There are times he says he loves me but again how do you trust? Is there anyone out there who was or is in this same condition and made it through stronger than ever? Is there any hope.

That is a long time...Congratulations!!!

Our next one will be 45.

I had a great aunt and uncle that were married 77 years.
(I know I tell that a lot...but I figure there are a lot of new people here who haven't read it)

You post doesn't make you sound very enthusiastic about this, Sue.

"I am still married," could mean you are celebrating (but you don't say you are). It could mean you are 'still living in the same house'. It could mean, "Nobody thought we'd stay married," or, "OMG, I had no idea how LONG we'd be married."

Thank you to all for the well wishes. No we did not celebrate. We have never celebrated an anniversary except for our 25th one and we had a family dinner here at home.

CONGRATULATIONS! My parents were married 62 years before my mother passed away. I remember when she said the years went by so fast. Now my husband and I will be married 36 years next month and it sure doesnt seem like it either. I remeber when my dads sister said how many times are they going to celebrate their anniversary. We celebrated there 25,40,50,55 and 60 and we thought what was it any of her business how many we celebrated. We thought it was worth it and as long as they were in good enough health to do it why not do it.
