we saw Avatar yesterday

afternoon. It is LONG! It was okay. WE got there too late and had to sit in the front row and it wasn't really comfortable trying to see it with glasses AND the 3D glasses. I had to look down to read the words, then back up to see the screen, my bifocals got in the way! LOL it would have been better if we were back in the middle of the seats. the story itself was okay, the cgi (or whatever they did) was amazing. Not the best movie, but not too bad. DS loved it.

DH and #1DGS went to see it on Saturday and absolutely loved it. DGS is 10 and after they got home he started to tell me a bit about the movie. He said that the Avatar people are human, but they're HUGE - like 15 feet tall. And one guy's brother got burned. I said, "Burned?" He said, "Yeah, caramelized." We figured out that he meant cremated, but I thought his description was adorable.

We wanted to go Saturday, but there were absolutely no parking spots , so we turned around and went home. I later heard some showings are already sold out,it's best to buy your tickets online. But you can't reserve a parking spot! Guess we'll go after school is back in session, sometime Jan 4 or later.

Occasionally a newly planted bamboo will put out skinny new shoots that are called whip shoots. Sometimes these are just above the ground but usually they will bend up. They are, technically, shoots, but they are not the kind of mature shoots you will see after the bamboo gets established. At any rate, it sounds like it's happy with the situation!

This is more dark purple/magenta and a collarette with otherwise single petals. Short plant of 2 feet or less, lots of 2-3 blooms and lots of tubers. It is called "Impression Fantastico" from Lowe's a couple years back. There are other 'Impression' dahlias I saw just a bit ago surfing the dahlia world online. I'd be happy to save one for you if you care to try it. You could Google "Impression dahlias" or some such to turn up a link to the others. I sent Willow a tuber of Red Peony- not a real name, but a dark red single of about 3-4 inches across on a tall plant. If she has a photo maybe she can share it, but she's due to go on vacation soon, if I recall.

What a crowded meet! We were packed in there with swimmers, spectators, meet officials and vendors. I'm wearing my wide brimmed sun hat & sunglasses. Out of this sea of people, I hear "Laurie!" and I see it's Yoga Lady! How you ever spotted me was amazing. One clue that may have assisted you... I was wearing my bright orange print blouse...same one I wore to Jodi's get together. It was fun seeing another Kt'er : ) Yes, Jodi...I'm in!

What I saw on the freeway yesterday

We were traveling at 65 MPH outbound in the center lane on the Edens Expressway one afternoon recently when traffic braked to a sudden halt. About ten cars ahead of us in our lane one car had just been hit hard enough by someone in the fast lane to spin first car 180 degrees. No one appeared to have been hurt, but both cars had serious damage and traffic had to weave around them. Someone had pulled over on the right shoulder and was using his cell phone, presumably to report the accident. We congratulated ourselves that it had not happened to us, and that we were not in the resulting long backup. Not five miles along the road, we observed the identical scene in traffic headed inbound! That must have happened slightly earlier, as the backup was already miles long. Police and ambulance were trying to reach the accident via the median shoulder. But wait! There's more! The next morning the radio traffic reporter announced "an accident in the middle lane of the Edens, inbound" near where we observed the prior two accidents. It made me think how easily all expressway traffic in the city could be tied up by just a few similar incidents.

We went to the mall to see it yesterday but it was sold out. So we saw Sherlock Holmes instead. I'm a Sherlock fan and liked the movie a lot. Might go see Avatar today. I also would recommend buying tickets online and going early so you don't have to sit too close like Kat (which sounds really miserable).

Avatar was an amazing film... we LOVED it!

Even though it was long, the time flew by as the CGI was so stunning.

I liked it more than I thought I would. It was a little long for me. The Navi were an amazing group and how the humans transfered from body to body was interesting.

I loved it. Might be best picture at the Academy Awards. Good story (taken from Westward Expansion and Native American part of our history???), lots of really impressive visuals. The costuming of the Navi was really creative and must have been a wonderful job for the costumers--they could just let their imaginations run free.

Apparently there are 3 versions: regular movie, 3D and 3D on the Imax screen. I saw the 3D version. Bigger and louder isn't for me, so I didn't do the Imax.

We saw it on the 19th in 3D. It was a beautifully made movie, but DH and I were really put-off by all the political messages planted in it.
