We are lucky enough not to have floated away yet. Actually, no flooding in our immediate area, but the news paints a sad picture of other areas. The wind was strong enough to whip up the roof in one small area enough to let the rain into our bedroom, but once it quieted down, the dripping stopped.

It's been pretty crazy here.... the freeways are a mess.
I'm keeping a close eye on our pool, I've never seen it this close to the top.

Pretty darn wet around here (Orange County) but I love it. 20 inches in 5 days. The trickle of a creek near the bird sanctuary I took Casey to when she was was visiting me in Sept is now nearly overflowing. Probably 20-30 feet deep. I can only imagine what the duck ponds look like right now.

Fortunately for us, we had French drains installed around the perimeter of our home two weeks ago so the front and backyards are in good shape.

All this rain means my springtime hikes will be stunning with all the wildflowers. Can't wait!

It's unbelievable but I like it too Jodi...helps keep the fire danger down. Our pool is full of mud and overflowing and we have to keep checking the drains and clearing them of debris. Roads are a nightmare...glad I'm at home! Where's the sun??!!!

I'm in Pasadena, home of the Rose Parade & Rose Bowl game. We are up to 13 inches in almost six days. Until today it's been soft rain, which pretty much all soaked in. Today, there have been downpours, & 3 inches just since early morning, so lots of runoff now. More wind today, too.

I had planned to run out for last minute pick-ups, but delayed it until tomorrow, when the storm's supposed to be gone. Instead, I've just made a Graham Breakfast Cake for Christmas brunch, & will start house cleaning shortly.

The rain has done it again with the ants in this town. Our town is on one giant ant hill. So when it rains, the ants come INSIDE to stay dry. I have them popping out here and there, especially in the kitchen. Ugh, and with Christmas baking and cooking. I have put baking any cookies on delay, but will store them in Tupperware when I finally bake some.

I am out in the Inland Empire AKA Riverside~~~we get a bit of flooding on our property but it soaks up fast. I went out to feed my birds and our grass is way over soaked I wonder how long it will take to dry out.

DH read that the Laguna Beach area is closed they got slammed with the rain and are all flooded out.

I am off too have lunch with my DD and gkids it looks like the rain is just about over here so not expecting any problems.

I love the rain it makes the hills in my area so green in the spring and less fire hazards. We live in a semi rural area so this is all good for us.

San Luis Obispo county has been declared a disaster are by the county and by the state......lots of flooding and sand/mudslides and lots of road closures recently.
Tuesday was sunny and the huge rain deluge that was predicted didn't happen, at least here on the mesa. We only got one inch of rain in the past 24 hours. Our total for the storm is ten inches......about half of our annual rainfall.
On the bright side, our reservoirs are getting full and the groundwater is being recharged.

Just watched the news and oh myyyy!!!

I live near Jodi and all was well until this morning. The carpet of my living room is soaking wet and I can't figure out where it is coming from. I am hoping it came thru the new (ish) sliding glass door and just needs some caulk. (please please!) The rain finally stopped about an hour ago and my electricity flickered on a off a few times a few minutes ago, but I think the worst is over. Phew!

I'm afraid you're wrong about the "less danger of wildfires". All that extra wonderful spring growth, which will be glorious, will die out and be more dry fodder for the later summer wildfires. That moisture will be all gone in a few months.

This happens here too, every year that we have a wet winter and spring.

But the spring will be glorious - enjoy it.

Meredith, are you on a slab, or do you have a basement? If you are on a slab, you may have ground water seeping thru cracks in the floor. I hope not!

Not too bad here in Northern Calif. Lots of rain and muddy standing puddles but that's about it. We're supposed to get a break until Christmas.

The desert state of Utah got whacked, too. The Virgin River is rampaging through Zion Park; The park is closed.

Do you suppose all this rain will partly refill reseviors that were low from several years of low precipitation?

HI Tami, I'm on a slab. I checked and it looks like when they installed my new sliding door they caulked around the top and sides, but not the bottom. I had some guys working on my yard today and had them caulk the bottom. I sure hope it works, as it is supposed to start raining again tomorrow. I have the carpet pulled up in the corner and 2 fans on it. It's drying, but smells pretty bad......
