Being prepared on the road

All of this awful weather in so many parts of the country reminds me of what I discovered in the trunk of my father's car after he died. He was always the ULTIMATE expert when it came to being prepared for the worst. He lived in central NYS.

I found: several flares, road side reflectors, bag of cat litter, aluminum thermal blanket, wool blanket, heavy wool socks, gloves, heavy jacket, balaclava, muffler, wooden matches tightly wrapped, small shovel, a case of bottled water, several energy bars, toilet paper, urine bottle....and more that I can't remember off the top of my head. Some of those things are now in my vehicle.

I lived for many years in prime hurricane territory and carried an evacuation box in my trunk all the time.

How prepared are you to be stuck on the side of the road for several hours or even days? What do you think that you should keep in your trunk?
