We saw it today, and we loved it. DH and I took a friend's visiting 17 yr old grandson while she had to work. We all agree that it was terrific, and we will look forward to the sequel.

GS chose the one with Sandra Bullock for Tues. Glad he did.

I liked it because I'm a Sherlock Holmes fan. Yes, it was visually dark.

My two DS's and I went to see it Christmas afternoon and liked it. I thought Robert Downey Jr. was really good in it.

Different people look for different things in movies, and I plan to see it because I always like Robert Downey, Jr. and want to check out his excellent fake British accent.

Yes, Robert and Jude are terrific, and there's great chemistry between the two of them. Downey is marvelous!

We saw it Christmas Day...our tradition to see a new released movie that day. We really enjoyed it!! We are more excited about seeing it on DVD to see all the clues that we missed! You do have to enjoy mystery movies! And I thought it was a little long (but I have a hard time sitting still for ANY movie!) Yes, it was a bit dark, but that was all part of the time/movie.

I am thankful that there are all types of movies out there, sure be boring if everyone only went to the same ones!

We're looking forward to seeing it this weekend. We planned on seeing it last weekend but I threw my back out and the thought of sitting in a seat without being able to get up and move about was a bit daunting. I think Robert Downey Jr. is a terrific actor and so is Jude Law. Can't wait to see it!

Hubby and I saw it Sunday we both enjoyed it too.. I love RDJr...he's a great actor...

Well, the occult was very much in vogue at the time the story was written and absinthe was also trendy...especially amongst those in the arts.

I think I now want to see it...sounds like it may be a better historical vision of what Conan Doyle wrote.

In what time frame is the movie set? Modern day or back in the 30s or something? Not a big Downey fan but I don't dislike him either. I just hope it's not overly accented. Basil Rathbone didn't have a strong accent and was the premier Holmes in my book. Guess I'll watch for it when it gets out of the theaters.

Most movies these days are set for sequels from the start. So much so that many can't really stand on their own as far as I'm concerned. They're just part one of however many.

Saw it last night. I love Robert Downey Jr and I thought he and Jude Law were very good together. The movie was long and slow moving I thought. DH and I saw it with another couple and they thought it was slowing moving as well. DD and DS saw it together. DS 19 loved it. DD 17 thought it was very boring.

Conan Doyle's Sherlock stories are a series of about 60 short stories and novels.
So, a sequel of this movie would not be a fabrication of the first movie.

I thought everyone was familiar with Arthur Conan Doyle and the Sherlock Holmes stories from English lit classes in school. They are classics.

I thought it was good. For anyone who did not read the stories, Sherlock Holmes was a drug addict prone to depression. In the stories he did crazy experiments like those portrayed in the movies (including shooting a gun at the wall [can't remember why]). The movie did make him into an action hero, but it was faithful to his basic character. Also, the "real" Sherlock did not have an affair with Irene Adler.

I highly recommend the stories to anyone who has not read them. They are published in as books, but each story is short and stands alone. Also, the TV series with Jeremy Brett is awesome. I have not seen the Basil Rathbone movies.

One other thing, the TV show with Jeremy Brett portrays England (and Sherlock) as very clean and civilized. At that time in history, I imagine England would have been filthy (like portrayed in the movie) and Sherlock would have been a bit more gritty, though probably quite as gritty as portrayed in the film.

The kids and I watched this last night. It was ok. It would've been better if I could've understood more of what they were saying during the movie.
