I am back after a 7 year absence form here..

I recognize some of the same names.... I used to come here all the time..last i was on here I had a newborn baby girl and was getting into crafts heavily. this had become a paid forum, and so i stopped coming here. When did this go back to being free?

Anyway, I am a 42 year old mom of 2. I am a dietitian, crafter, and am currently undergoing chemo and radiation for colon cancer that was diagnosed in July, so being currently out of work, I have been spending alot of time on the computer. Hope to get to know many of you again!

I have never heard of a "call-in" to a proceeding. If they gave you a phone number on the notice, the first step I would take is call it Monday morning, and ask if you are allowed to file a statement. If you get lucky, the person will indicate what to file, where to file, etc. At a minium, I would put togethor a brief summary of situaiton. 1. Amount ordered (ex. 200 per month for 12 years, total of 24,000) 2. Amount paid (400) 3. Amount still owed. (20,000) End with a statement that you are also requesting interest, penalties for the late payments to the extent the court allows. sign, it, get it notarized and send it in. Make certain to have any and all contact informatin for you, if you cant or dont want to take calls at work, give cell, but try to give a daytime number, give email and home address. If you have a copy of the original order, I would send it in (copy, not original). If you live near where order was issued, and can do so, if you dont have copy, see if you can go to courthouse and get. I dont know if it pays to get attorney (sounds like this guy avoids paying, may be money down the drain). Always assume that the court personnel are overworked, lots of cases, and dont have time to call other states and get paperwork, so if you can send copies it will help.

Here's a simple empty floorplan that I did a while ago (I should double some of these measurements). A few notes about it -- porch is on the far left (east) side of the house. The top half (north) is the uninsulated portion that we'd try to "square up" that we currently have some storage shelves in and a bunch of shoes :) The bottom half of the porch (south) with the window is where the current 3/4 bath is. When the previous owners "finished" the bathroom, they put all the plumbing on the exterior east wall, with the shower, sink, and toilet all in a row on the east wall, top to bottom so to speak. The kitchen is the large room right off the porch. There are stairs directly to the west of the kitchen that can't be moved. So basically, we are constrained to the west of the kitchen by the stairs, and to the north is our driveway which we also can't move. We can tear out some of the south wall of the kitchen to open to the dining room, but we would not be willing to steal space for any kitchen components, just open up. We need at least a 1/2 bath somewhere in there, and no, we're not willing to put it in the foyer (it's been asked many times already). So realistically, the only option for improving the layout and growing the kitchen a bit is annexing some of the porch and slightly expanding the porch. Below, I'm going to post a draft of a layout inspired by a fellow Houzz user that made these suggestions. A few things aren't precise, but it's an idea (there's a bit of extra space added on to the east that could be skipped if we want). I'd definitely be interested in other ideas though, and may post again on the kitchen boards.

Marianne, for right now in the photo of the balcony you can see I have just a bit of shade cloth on on there where I put the seedlings from about 1-3pm, the hottest time of the days. But the weather is going to be cooling down with time (like this week the highs will be around the mid 80s unlike last week in the 90s) so I am not putting up any more shade cloth. Linda and Sey, unlike the containers I used at my in-laws' roof which were I believe 45 gallon fabric pots, I will be using 20 gallons fabric pots this time around just because of space issues. I wish I had the same Brandywine Sudduths to see the difference in how it grows in the smaller pots :D

I'm responding to venmar's question: While all of the above comments are true, I do have to wonder why some of the GE and Kenmore branded version induction cooktops from the early 1980's are still functioning while our modern equivalents are so fragile and short lived. Well, actually, there will be some current induction ranges that will last just as long as some of the first gen models you mentioned. Note that I said "some." Seems to me that in any given electronics product line, some units will chug on for a long time and some will not. One of my aunts still has a functioning early Kenmore induction range. (FWIW, it was my intro to induction cooking appliances three decades and something ago.) So, the last time I needed a new stove, I looked into maybe getting a "pre-owned" Kenmore induction range from the 80's. A bit of research showed that every story of longevity like my aunt's was swamped by many tales of woe, of gnashing of teeth, of unrepairability, etc. etc. My take away is this: it is really hard to say if all of our "modern equivalents" really are significantly more fragile and shorter-lived than the older induction models. Or older stoves generally. As plllog says of fridges, nobody really expected a Kenmore to last for decades, even the older models that didn't have any electronics, but some of them did. That some antique appliances are still around and working doesn't necessarily make them better than the current models. That being said, I certainly see the appeal of Venmar's vintage back-up coil burner range for simple reliability and durability. It is not just induction, either; it is pretty much all major brand appliances which run off circuit boards. But there will be tradeoffs. The extent of those trade-offs may or may not be worthwhile to any given one of us. As appealing as the simplicity and reliablity factors can make a vintage range seem, there are still some major trade-offs in day to day cooking such as waste heat, slow responsiveness, uneven ovens, etc. Seems to me that this is pretty much applicable to all appliances. Fr'instance, even with all my neo-luddite tendencies, there is no way I would trade my current Kitchenaid/Whilrpool FD fridge for the 1954 Westinghouse chill chest I had in graduate school 40 years ago. The problem as I see it is the uncertainty. There is no way to know if your unit is going to last a long time or fail early. That is why I find myself nodding in agreement every time Kas says "I now consider these cooktops to be effectively leased . . ." Regarding Kas' s comments about GE maybe building those old induction ranges better, my recollection is that those early GE and Kenmore induction ranges were actually rebadged units built by Sanyo in Japan.

my daughter is doing great- my pride and joy.. I remember one of my last posts on here..i had gotten home from the hospital after having her, and there was a blackbird that came into our house from the fireplace, and i had heard that was a bad omen, so i was sobbing from my postpartum hormones..so afraid something bad would happen to her!

it is so nice that so many remember me...i didn't realize the site had been sold to ivillage..wish i had checked a long time ago... my cancer was caught early but was in 1 lymph node..i have a very good prognosis but still need to do adjuvant treatment in case some microscopic cells were left behind.. so i am very hopeful. I remember there were several cancer survivors on this site, and hope there are several still around.. would love to share support!

I also am sorry to hear you are fighting the big C...You are not alone..there are several here on the KT that are or have been...
If fact there was a post recently about that.
Maybe someone will post a link to it for you...I've forgotten the name of it.

Welcome back. I think I used to go by Cleo here at one time before you had to pay, then changed to Debby. I think I posted for about a month when I heard it went free again, then somehow 'forgot' about this place. How could I do that??? I've been back about a month or two now, I think.

I'm a mom of 4 adults, no grand kids yet. Phew! My husband and I are empty nesters at last. I'm was laid off work this week and am being physio on my hand Monday morning for an injury I got at work last summer.

Welcome back. I, too, remember you and the black bird post. I have been back here for awhile...I use to go by VickersJo, but couldn't remember my password, so had to come up with a new name.

Again...welcome back. You will be in my thoughts. I am so happy your prognosis is good.

Welcome back PP. I've been here at the KT for about 3 1/2 years. I found my way here via the Bluebird Forum, where I'd been since 2001.
Stay strong in your battle with the big C. I pray for all my KT family fighting the battle, as well as my own family.

Welcome back, I remember you too. The KT has been free for a few years now. Having the big C. sure isn't nice but it sounds very promising since they caught it early. Chemo and radiation will tire you out completely but soon you will be joining the ranks of survivors. I am an 8 year survivor of Inflammatory Breast Cancer which was in my lymph nodes. Having cancer did have one benefit for me....I no longer sweat the small things in life and I am a much happier person these days.

Wishing you well and hope you spend lots of time here again.

4 years ago I was in the same position as your are now, colon cancer too. It get's better, I promise. I even could taste things again a month after my last chemo. Contact me any time you need somebody to talk to. I keep you in my thoughts.

I also was diagnosed for colon cancer last November and went through chemo and radiation. I just finished my second round of chemo last month.

Oh, I remember the black bird post. I am glad, all went well after that anyway.

Sorry to hear about your cancer. We have been wearing red on Thursday's to support all chemo and radiation cancer KT members, cept I forgot to remind everyone last Thursday.

I was in Iowa, helping my daughter move, and just forgot.

I'll try to be better about it this coming week.

Welcome back. I do remember you. I'm very glad your cancer was caught early, and pray like many of us that you will be a cancer survivor. Wishing you the very best.

Since you've been gone, my family has grown. I now have 3 greatgrandbabies. Hubby survived a heart attack, had open heart surgery...4 bypasses and is doing great.

Oh, PolarPrincess......I have had you on my mind so often lately.....I really missed your posts and all the info you had on nutrition.
I am glad your colon cancer got diagnosed early. I will keep you in my healing thoughts and prayers. Keep us updated.
Since you last posted I have become a grandma! Jake is a little over two and Mio is just over a month old. My kids moved to Tokyo a little over a year ago so we don't get to see them often. In fact, we haven't met Mio yet but hopefully we will have a family reunion on one of the Hawaiian Islands before summer. If not, DH and I will go to Tokyo.
Tell us more about your crafts and your DD.....and post pictures if you want. But I can understand if you don't.

oh i can't wait to show my daughter the flamingo! my daughter is a flamingo FREAK. She wants to move to florida so she can "have" one lol. My favorite mediums are fabric and paint. I make primitive crafts.. it is an absolute passion, and i sell on ebay, but prior to my diagnosis, we were getting ready to start a huge remodeling project on our house, so all my crafting stuff is in boxes in the garage, and then all summer i have been recovering frmo surgery and then chemo.. i just finished radiation, and now am on to 6 more cycles of chemo, so i just haven't felt up to unpacking everything or doing crafts. I hope to start again in the spring! So interesting to hear updates to your lives.. i know so much can happen in 7 years... seems just crazy how fast this time has gone..
