I do not go to the recipe/food forum.

These KTers are my trusted friends and if they like a recipe well enough to post it, I want to read it, and possibly try it. I still cook Brother Thomas' cookies. Thanks again Glenda for posting it.

The KT is like friends sitting around the table sharing food favorites and recipies. That is what we do, as well as how the one leg is shorter than another on that table. I visit the cooking forum...post infrequently...learn lots; but this is home.

Sometimes people here are more flexible with thoughts and ideas about food--whether it is recipes or disasters or just how to do something. And sometimes under single subject forums, there is not the resources or sharing from members.
That is why I like recipes etc here.

When I just posted I saw this, when you post a thread it reads "�Before posting a message, make sure you have chosen the most appropriate forum from the list. Off-topic posts will be deleted at our discretion."

I knew there was a rule about this, I am not trying to get people not to post about food (although you are not helping my diet!!!) but I remember threads being moved when they weren't in the correct subject. The KT is pretty much about everything, so it no biggie. I just noticed that there are a lot more food posts lately, and Fun2Bhere I think you are right. I don't celebrate the holidays so it never occured to me that people would be posting more recipes this time of year.

Where better than the Kitchen Table for food? I never go to the other forum for recipes.....I like the ones from people I consider "friends" here.

I've been sitting at the Kitchen Table since 1998; it has always been a food-heavy forum.

The KTers are mostly women - with just the right balance of some very exceptional men - who love to cook, eat, feed our families, feed our friends, feed our kids' friends, feed our neighbors, feed our neighbors' friends, and share our recipes. Sometimes we have get-togethers and feed one another.

I don't often have great success posting on the other forums.

Case in point. Yesterday I posted a wail about not being able to find a vintage pattern. I put the exact same posting on "The Sewing Forum" (since it was a sewing-related problem) and here on the KT.

Eleven different KTer responded. In less than 24 hours, not only was I able to locate a pattern for sale, (apparantly the only on in the entire www) but one KTer is actually mailing me her copy o f#8372 all the way from Alaska.

I recieved not only the pattern I was hoping to find, but encouragement and suggestions for wonderful substitutes.

Not one person has yet responded on the Sewing Forum. It's not as active as this forum, and I seldom post there.

Here I feel at home; I know I'll get answers.

I depend on the "What's for Supper" threads; they give me many ideas.

I hope this doesn't turn into a "food fight"
I like the variety of posts on this forum...

I've been here about a dozen years and we've always shared recipes and posted about food. Since I'm diabetic, I seldom share recipes here, but when I do try one of the special ones that are posted here, I know it will be a winner! I agree that the holiday season accounts for an increase in the food posts and I'm looking forward to some new recipes for Christmas goodies!

I agree with everyone here. And marie-ndcal nailed it with what she said. I belong to another forum and the single subject forums hardly move! Although anything having to do with food...always seems to move it seems...LOL!

KT is an appropriate place to talk about most topics. It's conversation between friends.

Thanks Lovemymimi, I enjoy things I post about too! I do it to get to know people, and I hope other people learn about others too. I knew everyone here years ago and it was a lot of fun, so I came back and am enjoying getting to know the oldies and the newbies!

Well it is inevitable that the subject of food comes up when sitting around the "kitchen table". Nothing uncommon about that, we talk about food a lot.

I enjoy the diversity here and post to those that I find interesting and those that are posted by folks about whom I care (prayers, good thoughts, birthdays). Other topics I'm not particularly interested in or have anything to share I skip on by without admonishing the board about what they should or should not post here. If I were so inclined to do that I would have a real field day lately.

i love all the food topics at the kitchen table. i love to read the "what's for dinners", and most of the recipes that are posted. i especially love that glenda posts her recipes. besides, we all have to eat. so, i hope they will always continue. ;)

There are lots of posts that could probably be sorted out to other forums, but this is pretty much a post whatever you want forum/ I have no problem with any posts, if I'm not interested, I don't open them.

If I have a question I'll post it here. I don't bother going to the other, although I have asked a question or two at the cooking forum.

We're all everyday cooks (well some are more professional), but not food snobs. Any question, no matter how trivial, can be asked about food and it will be answered without being ridiculed.
That's a fact.

The answers here come in a lot quicker (on any topic) as Caroline observed, and Detired, last week.

I don't give it a thought what the topic is when I post, and whether it "belongs".

I, too, enjoy all the food posts. I have used many of them for dinners and such. Some I have passed on to others..

I don't come here as often as I used to. Some of the older members have stopped coming. I sure do miss them. It isn't the same as it was years ago. I love Miss Glenda's posts.. Like Lisa said If it isn't a topic I'm interested in I don't open it. Great bunch here for the most part..

No more than folks should post questions or sharing vacation info here rather than the super slow Family Vacation Forum
or posting sewing, knitting, or quilting questions or picture sharing here rather than the 'other' forums.
Or, asking computer questions here rather than The Computer Help Forum

If all questions and sharing was done at the more specific forums, there would be fewer answers and a lot less to talk about and share here at the KT, among a very diverse group of knowledgeable friendly folks.

It kind of sounds like you think that food questions and discussions here are inappropriate, since you quoted the forum rules, and that posts had been moved in the past. Unless posts are controversial and maybe better suited to Hot Topics I see no reason for posts to be deleted or moved...and btw...posts cannot be moved to entirely different forums. They can only be moved on 'some of the forums' like the Seed Exchange (on topic discussion/trading side) to the off topic/Conversation side.

Just my 3 cents....

I agree, Sue - IMHO, we should just let this discussion roll off the page. I love reading ALL the topics posted here, so let's just have fun. If the topic heading suggests something that annoys anyone, just scroll on by.

Well the kitchen table seems like a good place to discuss food and recipes, doesn't it? I do like conversing with people about food; if I had to get all my information from slick magazines I would be too intimidated to try new things.

Gee! I just checked in after a couple of weeks of my own inactivity here and as I scanned down the first page...I thought the KT had been kidnapped by someone named Michelle Phxaz.

IMHO...the KT doesn't need any adjustments, redirection or amendments to its current content/participation. It's been a very enjoyable, often educational, stopover for me for many, many years...whether I'm actively involved or not. Don't lets spoil the recipe by adding one too many cooks in the kitchen. ;-)

I had been scrolling on by those NEW Q and A posts until the question about recipes/ cooking appeared. I will continue to SOB those particular ones.

I know without a doubt whenever I have a cooking dilemma, I can get answers and opinions here quickly!
If I email my sisters it can literally take days to hear back sometimes.
It really is like sitting around a table with folks coming and going. The topics are widely (and wildly) varied.
I don't always read the recipes and such, but I know if I get stumped by what to make for dinner I know I can come here and be inspired. I am just a regular cook, using regular ingredients...

I love cooking, baking, reading recipes and trying new ones. So I'm happy with food threads.

I also love Michelle's questions. I don't always answer but always read them. Sort of reminds me of Sandy_Iowa's daily question. Some very interesting questions and even more interesting answers.

Honestly when you came back to the KT I personally wondered what your motives were. You started out by posting threads on every hot subject that has ever happened. Spike used to lower the boom when we got into heated arguments and the subjects you posted about were some of the ones that always started it....Wearing shoes in the house for instance...I can't exactly recall all of the subjects but they were mostly what your early post were about....

My answer to your question is.......we talk about what ever we please just as if we were sitting at the kitchen table chatting as others have said.

Over the years, I've built up a Recipe Folder I treasure simply by copying and pasting the yummy, creative and tried and true recipes offered by our KT Family. Thanks y'all! :)

I'm also grateful for the site Joann has made for us. When I traded computers, I would've lost many recipes if not for her. Love our KT cooks! :)

I like coming here for the variety of topics, including food, escpecially around the holidays. I've gotten alot of great ideas and again this Thanksgiving will be making Glenda's fudge pie and also doing Jasdip's slow cooker stuffing she recently posted. I lurk at the food forum, but feel more comfortable at this table.

When we sit around the kitchen table, it is a place to converse with helping others, showing others the things they ask for.
Oh yes when you join the KT, we invite you to pull up a chair and be sure to bring some gooie brownies or some other goodie. At home isn't the kitchen table the place to chat about daily happenings. Many recipes are exchanged by neighbors that you have invited for a cuppa. I just had a friend call me for a pound cake recipe. He wanted one that was an old recipe. He got it. Why change what we like doing?

I enjoyed Sandy's "daily" question. A question a day. "A" question a day. Thoughtful, thought-provoking, and not tiresome. It was nice and I miss those.

I, too, would rather exchange recipes here than at the FF. This is, as many have said, a bunch of people chatting around a kitchen table.

As far as 12 out of 30 posts being about food, at one point today I saw that 9 out of 30 posts on the first page were initiated by you, Michelle. 9 by one person. That's fine, and certaily you've gotten enough feedback to know that some love your questions, but at least the food posts were by different people. I don't think that there's a rule against anyone monopolizing the forum, but I also don't think that the "on topic" rule applies to things like you suggest ... food posts ... because that is, IMO, on topic.

However, as most of us have learned to do, I SOB (scroll on by) those posts that don't interest me. I expect that many people SOB mine. And I expect that I'll SOB others.

As far as postings about food? Those I'm interested in!

First of all...I haven't the slightest idea how many virtual people reside here...and second...even if I did, it's not my job to show anyone the door.

It was, however, my attempt to say..."leave well enough alone." For the most part...we're a happy group who enjoy all the contributions of our members...including our "food forum". Everyone has always been welcomed...as far as I know...so enjoy your seat at the table as a contributor and try not to rock the boat. That's pretty simple...isn't it!

This is so funny but I have always looked to the Kt for recipes from the beginning..have never gone anywhere else. AND now am very famous at Christmastime for a recipe that Glenda posted the year before last and I made for a christmas party. It was a HUGE hit, then I made it for our family get together and it was another huge hit..I love alot of the recipes on here. Oh, the recipe that I am talking about is Fudge Pie. Anyone remember it? Easy Peazie! and so darn GOOD!

Just wait until the end of next week and there will be tons of diet and excercise post. I thought just about anything short of religion and politics could be discussed here. I have enjoyed your posts the last month or two. You have encouraged some interesting topics and post. Much better than the ho hum boring atmosphere here sometimes.

There has always a few different groups at the KT.

There's the folks that say, "This place is boring, I get sick of the food posts, the pics of grandkids, the posts about dogs and/or cats. I like the more thought provoking posts! We all can talk like adults and disagree respectfully. Let's stir things up a bit around here".

Then there's the folks that say "If we don't all agree this should go on Hot Topics. Let's only talk about things we all agree upon. I like the food and pets posts."

Then there's the in between folks who think there is room for both. And of course we all love the posts where we give our opinions about what someone should do about something, lol.

I personally have liked most of your posts, Michelle. I like posts that make people think and tell interesting stories about themselves or their experiences or opinions. However...I have seen you say something along the lines of, "I know some people don't like my posts and that's too bad, I am not going anywhere and will continue to post whatever I want". Good for you and I'm fine with that, BUT, I think if you want people who may not be comfortable with the topics you post to be tolerant of your posts, then you need to extend the same courtesy. You know very well that this forum is basically a free for all, and if people want to have 12 posts on the front page about food, then that's their right. Some people like those posts, and don't want to respond to ones like you post. Although you may say that you are "just asking", the tone of this post is obviously looking down upon so many posts that you don't think are as good/interesting/exciting as yours.

This particular post probably just rubbed some people the wrong way because it seems hypocritical when you are talking down about posts you find monotonous but think you should be able to post as many as you want about what YOU think is interesting.

There is plenty of room for all sorts of posts. I like the food posts and the posts similar to yours. If I'm not in the mood for one or another, I skip by that day. I think everyone should be able to post whatever they want. There are lots of kinds of people here who like lots of kinds of topics. It is only boring when everything is the same, so bring on the variety!

Hey...I'm a newbie and it's Thanksgiving time. I say let's all be "thank for" to have a place to come together and appreciate and respect one another, come what may.

And I hope that if I ever say or do anything that really bothers someone that they will take the time to do an e-mail and let me know their feelings in private.

So far, I'm really happy I joined here and lookin' forward to some fun times and having some "awesome" cyber-friendships.

First off, I'd like to say I've enjoyed some of Michelle's postings. Secondly, a friendly reminder that sometimes we can read more into a post that what is meant by the poster. And sometimes the poster may use wording that comes across differently then intended. I was pleased by her response when I pointed out why some people may or may not comment on a subject as was the case in her post about what if your child/grandchild was gay.

I agree with Caroline that I can usually find the answer to a question quicker here then on any of the other forums. I know I've posted on three different boards on various topics and never received an answer. But here --- I did and received some very good answers.

I've enjoyed all the recipes I've seen on here over the years and have tried a couple of them. I'm gearing up now to start my annual Christmas goodies baking for a number of my neighbors, the local police force, guards at the Air Force base and the state troopers. I usually wind up putting it all together on the 23rd, just in time for delivery on the 24th.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone. This forum is one of the things I know I'll be giving thanks for.

There has always been the occasional poster who comes onto the board all giddy with posting. Some people enjoy the variety of topics. If they didn't, there wouldn't be any responses.

For people to announce they are leaving the board because someone has posted one too many posts is just foolish. And no one person, or group of persons, has a right to dictate what others can and cannot do.

We're all grownups here, perfectly capable of making our own decisions about what we choose to respond to, and perfectly capable of evaluating a poster's intent.

If I was new to this forum or returning after being away for a while, it would seem logical to me that there was no problem with posting about food and recipes on the KT or else so many people wouldn't be doing it. I would see that people were happy with the system, and wouldn't challenge or question it since it's not hurting anything. If for some reason I thought it odd enough, I wouldn't start a new thread about it, but I might post a diplomatic in a food thread, something to the effect that I'm pleasantly surprised that food threads are ok at the KT, and I wouldn't have thought that.

Generally speaking, people post in the tone they want to, to project the way they want to be viewed by others. I do like to consider different points of views on things, and I like to observe and sometimes participate in controversial subjects. But I appreciate the member who can do that while respecting the sensibilities of others.

If one finds the topics too single-topiced, or too many threads initiated by one person, there`s a long line of nunmbers at either near the top of the page, or the bottom, and all that one need do is click on `2`` or any other number up to `67`` to find a whole new list of topics to peruse ...

... that go back, usually between two and three months.

If that wide variety isn``t enough for you ... maybe you`re a bit too fussyÃÂ (that was supposed to be a question mark ... but this computer is being a bit too `teen-agerish`, insisting on its own way, today, I fear).
