Those of you who sew...I have a ?

I'm making bookmarks...

The are made with the real stiff Pelon. Using iron on fusing you iron pretty satin materials to each side, then either zig zag or use a surger on the edges.

I didn't want to mess with my surger so I'm zig zaging.

Here is the problem. I get one of the bookmarks zigzaged around the edges and the needle becomes sticky/gummed up from the glue of the iron on fusable material.

I've been taking my needle out and cleaning it with nail polish remover...

But I getting just a bit weary of doing that.

Is there anything better I could maybe spray on my needle to keep that gunk from sticking?

I sure hope some of you have some good answers...I've got several sets of them cut out ready to sew for small Christmas gifts.
