Do you believe in animal messengers?

The weekend of the 8th, a finch started sleeping on my porchlight every night. I could open the door and talk to him and he wouldn't fly away. In the morning he would be gone, but he was back every night. By the third night I knew someone had died or someone was going to die. Last Sunday I was looking up an obituary online for a businessman that my Mom had told me had died. In the listing of about 8 deaths in this little town that the businessman lived in I also found the obituary of an old co-worker.. someone I had felt a strong connection to although we only worked together for a short while. He was someone that I often wondered about. I thought that was an incredible coincidence and a little spooky that I had stumbled upon the obit. My friend died on the 9th. I knew the bird wouldn't be back after I had found the obituary, even though he had been here for over a week. He hasn't been back. I think he was a messenger (or a harbinger). Once I got the "message", he was no longer needed.

Are you ready to send the men in little white coats for me? Or do you believe too?

You already know the story about CeCe..the kitty that showed up the night my husband died, so you already know my answer to your question!*S* Pretty amazing,huh?

I certainly wouldn't be sending the coated folk for you. There's a lot of things we can't explain and I've had some experiences that definitely make one wonder. "Coincidence" cannot explain everything.

My DS did the staring "thing" too. I do believe that they can see/feel spirits. I have a story relating to the "touching". One night I was nursing my DS in our bedroom and my DH was at work. The house was very quiet and I was rocking my son as I nursed him. All of the sudden I heard a thump on my son's crib (it was in our room at the time). There was nothing that could've caused the noise that I could explain, but right after the thump I swear I felt that there was something/someone unseen in the room with me. It wasn't a scary feeling---but I had tears streaming down my face. I just kept looking around the room trying to "see" what I thought I was feeling. It was such an odd, but peaceful feeling. I told my DH about it a day or 2 later and he explained it as sleep deprivation. Who knows?

Thanks for the link to the furminator and all your tips. I will also look for that charcoal for the litter boxes. I understand why someone may miss the house bc of no lock box, but I can't take the chance that someone would come over without calling me. I do work mornings and would be very upset if one of my critters got out of the house while I was not here. We already lost a cat that way when we remodeled this house. I will have to buy one of those furminators. It looks like it works great. One of my cats is a Persian and I usually get his hair cut in the spring and summer in a lion cut to help keep down the fine hair that floats off him or comes off in clumps. My dog is a 5 lb. toy poodle so he doesn't really shed. He just gets groomed every 4-6 weeks. Because of his size I do not leave him alone outside at all. And I always pick up outside right away, so no worry about stepping in any doggie stuff here. Besides we will probably still have snow on the ground when I sell. I already have an allergic free vaccumm, so I just gotta remember to really go around and vaccuum everything every other day if I can (including the curtains where the cats end up rubbing against). Fortunately, we live in an area in upstate NY where the housing market is still stable. Our houses did go up in price, but did not rise as much as some other areas on the east coast. Also, there is new industry starting to come in here so people are still buying here. Most of the homes for sale near me have already sold this year so I am hoping that next spring will be good still. I think I will stick to appointment only and probably for qualified buyers only as our house although not the most expensive in town, is one of the more expensive and nicer ones. We will be moving out of state into a rental if and when we sell as my new home is yet to be built. So we will have some time to list this home if it doesn't sell right away. We are still working with an architect on the design and the house build is to start at the earliest in fall 08

That really depends on what the item is. There are inexpensive TP brands that, while not on par with, are certainly almost as good as the expensive kind. I would buy the cheaper yet as close as possible to the expensive brand. On tp it pays to looks at "ply" and length of roll. But when you are talking about something like sugar, or flour--well you are really seeing a difference in advertising a brand name--not a difference in product. I rarely buy generic though for anything. Many times the store brand is made by the same people who make the fancy grand--the difference in price is explained in what they pay for advertising a product (a large part of food economics).The bottom line is always the Unit price. On expensive things though, I have, although I've thoroughly researched something, been disappointed when I spent more for the supposedly better brand of (washing machine, dryer, refrig, etc...). I try to find good used products of the brands I want, first.

I've never had venison. I would like to try it once, but I have to agree with not being comfortable with those who hunt just for sport. Even so, we have a whitetail overpopulation problem here, so the herd is not healthy and the woods won't be either if it continues. In that case, I think they should let the hunters thin the herd and give the meat to the food banks (if the clients will eat it, that is). I had never had lamb or mutton until I was an adult. We had mutton on the Navajo reservation and liked it. Lamb korma is one of my favorite dishes now. It took me awhile to like sheep's or goat's milk cheese -- some I still don't like. And I haven't yet found a taste for goat -- that smells and tastes nasty to me.

Yes I do. I had a very hard time accepting my father's death. His favorite bird was the Cardinal and after Dad's death, this little Cardinal would come to my yard. It came to my yard for several years, I know it was the same one because it had no tail. After I started to be comfortable with Dad's death, it never returned again. Vique

With many experiences involving birds, deer, cats, dogs, frogs, dragonflies, and jumping spiders (I think that's all--so far), I'm a true believer.

I do beleive there is a connection I don't know what it is.

I told my mom last night, wouldn't we have a laugh if we got to heaven and there was a messege that the dogs/cats we have owned were Gods spies. Not really spies but working as his eyes or teachers. Whether it's true or not, I'm being nice to my pets! lol

Many years ago, I had to fly down to Florida to attend the funeral of my 19 year old sister who died a very unexpected and tragic death. After returning to Mom's house after the funeral, I noticed a light-color, medium sized dog sitting on the porch outside my room. My family had never seen this dog before and we were all puzzled as to why he was just sitting on the porch. I went out to pet the dog and told him to go home, but he just sat there. And he was there on that porch until I flew home.

Imagine my shock when I returned to my apartment in Boston, and there on the porch was the dog. Now, I can't be certain that it was the SAME dog, because logic tells me that it would be impossible for that dog to be in Boston when he had been in Florida a mere 8 hours before, but he looked JUST like that dog who sat outside my bedroom window. After giving me a long look, the dog simply walked off the porch. I never saw him again. My Mom never saw the dog at her house either.....

I wonder how many times I may have ignored signs like this. I'm not superstitous at all, although.....yesterday, a black cat ran across in front of me! I immediately recalled the omen, but then said, "it's just a cat running in front of me". LOL(nervously)

I am fasinated by stories like this.

Janicep - I would have just sat down and cried like a baby. What an interesting story.

I always felt our dog Reggie brought us our dog Jesse. Reggie had only been gone a few weeks and I was really grieving when I decided to look through the Pet Finders website. I was only searching for a picture of a dog that looked like Reggie. I wanted to know there were other dog out there like him. I wasn't searching for a new dog. I came across a pic of Jesse and fell in love. I dismissed him knowing the last thing we wanted was a new dog. A couple weeks later I mentioned to DH that I saw this dog and for some reason I couldn't stop thinking about him. DH said well lets go see him then. We drove out to the shelter and knew he had to have him. He's been the most loving dog to us and really did help to heal our hearts. I always thank Reggie for him.

I don't know what I believe, but I always joke that because I am good to possums....scavengers....I always find good junk.
My friend had a sign made for me....it reads "Like a possum, I'm a misunderstood scavenger." So, when I need something...I
tell the "possum gods". I needed a bunch of extra large flower pots. Immediately, I found them everywhere, and many of them still had plants growing in them. Like the possums, they needed a little extra care. Every time I find some good junk, I say the possum gods are looking out for me.

I've been visited frequently by butterflies after a loved one (including a dog) have passed on.

Danihoney....what a wonderful story!! Jesse was MEANT to be yours and, yes, I'm sure that Reggie had a hand in it!

I believe that everybody gets these experiences but some folks are more attuned to recognizing them more than others are. While I like to think of myself as a very logical person (I am a software engineer), I have had many things happen to me that I cannot explain..... I just consider them the mysteries and wonders of life....

What I didn't mention was that when we walked into the shelter we said we were interested in seeing Jesse (the shelter had named him). They gave us the oddest look and said "are you sure you mean Jesse?" We said yep. I didn't walk back but DH did. He said Jesse was terrified and hiding behind the igloo dog house that was in the pen with him. His tail was tucked and he was growling. The shelter sat on a very busy country highway and with the combination of the barking dogs and the trucks, it was really noisy. Dh didn't like the way the worker was approaching the dog, thought she was actually scaring him more, so he took the glove from her and asked her if she had any treats to offer. She actually left him there in the pen with the dog. After she left DH just grabbed him and brought him out. Once we got a leash on him we walked him out to a quieter place and sat with him. He would barely lift his belly off the ground when he walked, everything startled him, but he let me rub and pet him everywhere. Even down between his toes. I knew he would be okay once away from there and NO WAY was DH going to be able to put him back in that cage and walk away. We took him home and bathed, him and loved on him and by bed time that night he was a completely different dog. He still jumped at everything, he obviously had not been socialized at all and he had spent months at that shelter. It's been five years and he is an amazing dog. He is so sensitive to our emotions. Sometimes I swear he knows what I'm thinking. LOVE HIM!!

All of our pets have been rescues. We had our beloved Abby put down a couple years ago and she had been a special needs rescue also, but Jesse really feels like a save to me. Maybe Reggie brought us to him. Who knows.

Sorry this got so long. I just love sharing this story.
