How would this look??

The jewelry thread has me thinking. How would it look if I took some of the brooches and pinned them to the drapes in my room??? The drapes stay closed all the time anyway. And we have 3 windows in our room. The drapes are solid burgundy.I think it would be a unique look. BTW the valances & comforter are a burgundy & gold stripe.

It would be using the jewelry, instead of it being boxed up.

So should I do it???

Try it, if it looks good you are right it is a good way to use jewelry that is in a box.

I love to hang swarovski crystals in the windows that have sun. The prisms are beautiful. They are all hung by necklaces that were mine & my daughters.

Let us know if you do use them.

I would totally do that and have. I have a large collection of brooches, some that were my Mom's and Grandma's and used to wear a brooch everyday. I pinned them to my bedroom curtains so they were easy to access and they looked nice too - better than being stored in a drawer in boxes. In the 1980's I used to collect travel pins and did the same thing. Only way I knew how at that time to display them so I could see what I had. When I was a teenager it was political buttons haha

If the panes of glass in my front window were not so crappy I would be hanging crystals, as it is they are all etched inside between the panes and they always look dirty. I love hanging crystals.

Oh how cute those prints are. Personally I'd try to find things from the pictures in small form or figurines. Like a miniature wagon children figurines. Possibly a mini baby porcelain doll. Of figurine of a mother and baby.

Very expensive! I thought the whole idea was for the less fortunate to be able to buy clothes and furniture they need at a discount price. The used shirts were starting at $4.95. And I mean they were used! I found out a little about my settee from the antiques forum. It's a solid mahogany 1920's - 1950 Queen Anne Revival settee. I think it may be closer to the 1920's. Even though I am sure the upholstery is new within the last 20 - 30 or so years, I think that the stuffing may be original and made of horse hair. Has a crunchy type of sound when I sit or push on the settee. The nail heads are old and rusted, which indicate they were re-used during the re-upholstering. I really do love it!

Thank you both. When we bought the house, all the trims were stained but not very well maintained. We painstakingly tried to renew and refresh them because we loved the old wood. However, after we got the new extension and all the trims were white, the old stained woodwork seemed to darken the place. I'll post a walkthrough video after the long weekend to give a better idea. I agree that window treatments can make the windows forgettable but the trims will brighten the place and give a more coherent look.

I would keep the iron railings. Get a wire brush, and clean them good, and get all the looks paint off them. Leave the boards at top, but, clean them good, and prime them good, and repaint them. Thats not a lot of maintenance up there. Vinyl is not necessarily maintenance free either. It gathers dirt like a magnet, and you will be power washing it often. Leave the windows white, just make sure they are all painted the same. The brown around the edges adds a bit of interest. I would really like some railings on the steps, even though they are not high. Someone could step off wrong there, on both sides, and end up injured. Buy some bright colored pots, and put some colorful flowers in them. That alone would add a lot, as would much nicer brighter landscaping. Its a cute house. Since you said the door is new, I am guessing so is the paint on the door. Sorry, but, that paint color does not go with your brick, or your house. Try a shade of darker turquoise, teal, or even a nice rusty red.

We are going to finish making the valences this weekend. One is done but we have 2 to go, and one of the valences is going to have to be pieced together. Then next Wednesday I will pin the brooches to the drapes.

Hi CherryFizz - Go ahead and hang those crystals; I bet they get enough light to sparkle!

I had that same "hazing between the thermal panes" in the base house in California. It was aggravating.

Maybe the sparkly rainbows will divert your attention for the window!

I just received a new window crystal yesterday! It's going over the sink.
