I'm making your stuffing in the crockpot recipe. About how much liquid (chicken stock) to you start with. I know the CP forms it's own liquid and I don't want to end up with soupy stuffing :-) 41/2 cups sounds like a lot.
I don't remember. I know I didn't measure, I just put it in, till I got the right consistency. I don't like a wet, gummy dressing at all. I know I mix it up into a bowl and then put it in the crockpot. With the stuffing absorbing the liquid I don't think the crock-pot creates as much liquid as usual, as when cooking making meats.
I cover the crock pot with a towel and then put the lid on. The towel helps with the moisture issue. I did not use all 4 1/2 cups. I start out with half and then keep adding when needed. I read some reviews that said 4 1/2 cups was too much.
2 (10-1/2-ounce) cans cream of chicken soup 2 (10-1/2-ounce) cans condensed chicken broth 4 eggs, lightly beaten 1/2 cup chopped celery 1/2 cup chopped onion 1 tablespoon poultry seasoning 1 tablespoon sugar 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon black pepper 1 (16-ounce) corn bread or 6 corn bread muffins, crumbled 8 slices day-old bread, crumbled 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter, cut into chunks
1.In a large bowl, combine soup, broth, eggs, celery, onion, poultry seasoning, sugar, salt, and pepper; mix well. Stir in corn bread and day-old bread and pour into slow cooker. Place butter on top and cover. 2.Cook on high 2 hours or on low 4 hours, or until firm and browned around edges.
