Every now and then I get socks that do this without having had problems with the other socks I own. I just end up throwing them out. Wish I understood the design problem that causes this.

sometimes it is the boots! not the socks. I got rid of some boots for that reason... my socks ended up near the toes.

Don't like that feeling at all.

I have that problen too. I have some that stay up but they don't keep my feet warm. I would like to find some that would do both. I spent $8 for two pair last week they keep my feet warm but don't stay up. Grr!

ended up barefooted in my mock uggs..just give them a spray once in awhile....

Might have to resort to tights or panty hose. Don't think they will slide down.

Or wear those itty bitty socks, called peds, I think? Or really long socks (I use men's) and then flip the extra portion over the top of the boot. And pull my pants over the boot. Couldn't leave them out with that look.

Some shoes/boots eat socks - it's very annoying.

They actually make sock garters, not very expensive maybe $8.

I use the "no show" type that only cover, very snugly, the bottom of my foot, and don't really show over the top of my sneakers. They are very snug on my foot, because of the stretch yarn woven into them. They should not wrinkle up on your feet because of the snugness. I've bought a ton of them in Publix, I believe the name is No Problem or something like that.

I wear knee high stockings. The band keeps them nice and snug, up where they are supposed to be.

Garter belts can be helpful ... or so I've heard.

I've worn squeezy socks for varicose veins, first two pair bought well over 4 years ago, with another added something under 4 years ago, I think.

Haven't had any trouble with them sliding ... but when the medical supplier called about a year ago to ask how they were doing, and I said "O.K. - but how do I know when they're getting too old for the job?", they told me that they'd start sliding. They haven't so far.

Have to wear a pair every day, and wash 'em on removal, every night - as head isn't over heels in bed: both at the same level.

Each has been in service once every three days for about four years or somewhat more ... and they're not sliding, yet.

The non-elasticized heels have needed to have holes darned about a half dozen times, and the toes a couple of times ... but they're still going.

I remember one of the household cleansers, "Bon Ami" (French for "Good Friend") years ago having a chick standing beside the broken shell, with a logo, "hasn't scratched yet".

Well ... my socks haven't slipped yet ... so I can commiserate ... even though I have little useful advice to offer, Kathy - neighbour in MI.

Avoid the agony. Boot the boot and return them.

Maybe they are like Uggs, since they are lined, you aren't supposed to wear socks with them.

If they are like UGGS, you aren't supposed to wear socks with them. The fur lining keeps you warner if the feet are bare.

The Thorlo socks stay up.....

Because of the shape of my legs, many socks longer than anklettes will scoot down to ward up. The only solution I have found is to use truly "over the calf" socks. The top of the sock has to be above the large part of my calf.

Its getting hard to find true over-the-calf (OTC) socks. A few long socks, but less than OTC , do stay up. The interior of the top part of the sock has a grippy pattern with enough elastic to hug the leg. The elastic is not concentrated in a top band that bites into the leg, bu has elastic distributed in the top 4 inches or so sock top.

I did find some cold weather socks at farm style stores such as "Mills Fleet Farm" and "Farm and Fleet". These socks are bulky and can not be worn inside close fiting shoes. Also, these are too hot for warm weather, but today, ponds and small lakes had a thin layer of ice and the socks were welcome.

Hi Lucy, I booted the boots/shoes. Really liked them, but couldn't stand the slipping socks. Did not like having to pay the shipping, that's why I very seldom (as in almost never) buy clothes from the internet.

Too bad you got rid of them, I love my UGGS. I wear a knee length spandex/wool blend sock(North Face) that's "skin tight". I don't think I'd like wearing them sans a sock though. Edit to add, the socks are made for skiing.

Sorry guys, not a spammer. Andrew is my husband using my account to gather ideas for our home reno. He doesn't use social media much, so wouldn't have thought anything wrong with spruiking his business when he saw an opportunity. I'll have words : ) He genuinely is a sock maker, but a little old-fashioned. Apologies again and I'll make sure he knows that doesn't fly.

You can also tell him, if you like, that the best way to advertise on any kind of social media is not to advertise at all. That is, be social, rather than promotional. Chit chat. Offer free help and advice. Interact. If people like you, they become customers. :) And there's no spam involved. :)

Are you Australian? I had to look up "spruik" (cool word) and one source said it was Australian, even though it has a Germanic root. Added: Oh, never mind! I just saw the answer in Andrew's post. :)

Thanks guys, and good tips....we're only just getting into using social media and I think you have to have a particular personality to make it work well. We're both a little too conservative, but now have a young girl working for us who seems to have a much better feel for it. Interesting re: spruik being of German origin! I always think of English markets with fast-talking, loud spruikers trying to flog you fruit and veggies in a Cockney accent, but you've got me intrigued now, and all I can find is Aussie references. Maybe I just imagined the Cockney thing.

Meanwhile, loving this site. My sister got me onto it a few weeks ago as we're considering renovating. What a brilliant source of ideas and inspiration!
