Mix in the water retention crystals, don't overload the container with too many plants and mulch it with at least 3 inches of bark. I work full time and have other things that take up my time besides gardening (my favorite hobby but not my only one). I love containers and usually have some that do quite well. But they take a lot of water. If you are using clay pots, remember that water will evaporate through the sides of the pot as well. For me, in sunny hot Florida, glazed pots or plastic ones work best because they retain moisture better. Use a slow release fertilizer - it's easy and your plants will love it. I also try to position the pots so that they don't get full sun in the afternoon; again, it just dries them out too fast. The type of flowers you use will depend on what you like and where you put the pot. I would suggest a combination (3 is always good) so that if one plant doesn't flourish, something else in the pot may. Hope some of that babbling helps! Kate

I went back into my mailbox, scary though it may be, I found the 10 email replies to that post, and here's the bit about v-8 type juice... instar8, Campbell's orignal V8 consisted (and consists) of the following 'V' ingredients, listed in decending order (I think) of representation in the mix: tomato beet celery carrot lettuce parsley watercress, and lastly spinach Of those that were not in my mix, I would likely go with parsley and spinach. (ONLY the flat-leaf type parsley, NOT the curly type thas is suitable [ IMHO ] only for garnishment). However, in too great a concentration, some of the leafy greens can clash with other ingredients, esp if they have some bitterness. If you want to get a wee bit adventurous, try making a few batches of 'V8' with fresh cilantro being one item in the mix. But overall, I want the tomato taste in V8's concotion to be dominant. I see some home recipies (I guess for immediate consumption) for V-8 calling for ingredients such as horseradish, Worchestershire sauce, wasabi (kidding on that one), etc. Items like that can be added when the jar is opened, if deemed sutable for the cocktail mix. Reg instar8, funny about the V-8 style juice you mention. I canned at least 25 qts of it. I used tomatoes, celery, red-beet root, carrot root and serrano peppers (thus V-5, I suppose... all but the celery was from my plot). Now a word to ya about this as well. Before you commence canning this V-8 stuff in mass, first taste-test your proposed recipe (seems to me that you have done enuf of such activities that you would). I used 2 serrano peppers per qt (this is too spicy for some -- some may not like any pepper at all in it). Also a full stalk of celery, one medium carrot and beet per qt (all raw). The red-beet root really imparted a deep crimson color to the mix. And the carrots I used were 'Purple Haze.' Their juice was also rather, well, purple. Reg

I kind of believe it.... In the past 2 weeks I had a neice in the hospital who needed an emergency operation, a uncle had a heart attack and a great uncle passed away. Nobody in my family has died or been seriously ill for years... then bam... three in a row.

I am very happy to hear my guess seems to be right. I never even thought about it until a handyman mentioned it a few years ago, but no one else has ever noted a concern. I thought vermiculite looked more like gravel, but I didn't know if asbestos came in other forms of insulation. I took another photo with my SLR with a macro lens. Looks like wool fibers and odd black spheres, I'm guessing where the fibers have melted over the years? Thank you everyone for your help!

I like Rosie and would definitely watch a show with her...but isn't this the show she is doing with Fran Drescher? I can't stand Fran Drescher. Her voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

Watching it now--it's not Rosie talking politics or other things--it's just a variety show (think, Ed Sullivan). So far, nothing nasty--just a talent show.

Me either...she is history...I cannot bear watching her in any way, and I agree with the Roseanne thing...when she did the National and made a joke of it, I said ...I will never watch that woman again and to this day...I never have.

The TV Guide said Rosie "attempts to bring back the good old days of the variety show."

I really haven't seen enough of Rosie to have an opinion about her. What I know about her is what I've heard mentioned by others. I thought I would watch in hopes of seeing something like the good old days. NOT! After the first few minutes I surfed around and went back a couple times to see if it had improved. Another NOT!

What I saw was pitifully bad. I had to wonder who actually would spend their time watching it. Such a waste of the sponsor's money.

Surely it won't last.

I did! Regardless of how she is, if she doesn't talk much and just entertain, she's pretty good. Since this is a "variety" show, I watched it. There were many other stars that appeared in the 1-hour show. It wasn't bad but it wasn't as good as the old Variety shows such as Donny & Marie, Dolly Parton, Bob Hope, Dinah Shore, The Carpenter, Hee-Haw, Tony Orlando & Dawn, Carol Burnett, etc.

I'm not into gay/lesbian stuff neither but one of my favorite entertainer is Ellen Degeneres. I like how most of the time (like 90%), she keeps her personal life from her talk show. Even if I don't like the gay/lesbian thingy, I don't see it much from her show and I enjoy her sense of humor. That's what I call an Entertainer.

OK....there wasn't much on TV last night. Out of curiosity I watched. Stupid Show. Alec Baldwin? Liza Manelle? Clay Atkins is drag (almost). Rapper Junk. Rosie sang with everyone and Danced with Liza.

It was awful.

I meant to watch it, forgot that it was on and didn't, from the sounds of it I was better off watching the Survivor special! What a shame, I used to really like Rosie, enjoyed her talk show. When did she become so beligerant and rude? Her actions are almost militant, what a shame.

I think when Rosie "came out", she couldn't deal well with the media. As the result, she became a very bitter person. Her personality just totally changed for the worse.

On the other hand, Ellen handled it better and didn't let the media influenced her.
