Computer Calendar suggestions.

I presently have CreataCard gold. It gives me a calendar that shows birthdays, appointments, holidays, etc and I can set it to notify me quite a few days in advance if I wish. It also has a place to record postal addresses and email addresses. Under the addresses it lists the name of each family member and their birthdays, annivesaries etc. I run XP and it will work with it but is not satisfactory on Windows 7 or 8. There does not appear to be a newer version. Do you know of any that I can buy that would give me this same coverage. I really do want to update but with something that is equal in performance.

Why not just use the one built in your email client? They all do the same tasks you mentioned. I have one set up in my Gmail and in my hotmail. It can be set up to send you reminders at what ever interval you set.
There's also a lot of free programs that do the same thing no need to buy.

I don't like programs that are dependant upon email or text for reminders. I like a popup reminder and like to see a schedule at times. I use different programs but don't have one that keeps email and postal addresses although AM Notebook Lite is a free program that has a calendar and Contacts list in it. I use it for the notes program. The "lite" version is free and that's what I use. You might check that out. The "pro" version lets you get alerts ahead of time but you might want to try out the free version first to see if it would meet your needs.

Otherwise, you might try using the Windows Compatibility Wizard to see if it'll work under Windows 7.

Otherwise it's time to search for a new program. As ravencajun said, there's a lot of free programs out there which is good and bad. Good, that there's a lot of options and free, but bad that there are so many it's a lot of effort to find something that you like. What you're looking for is a "Personal Information Manager" or PIM. I've tried a bunch of programs but never found a single program that did everything to my satisfaction. I wound up using multiple programs to meet my needs and for me, that's fine.

"When you set an appointment, to the right of the calendar are the details of that appointment when you click that day or reminder. There's a line that says "Reminder" and has a drop down that will let you pick when it reminds you. In the upper right, look under File>Options Be sure there's a check beside-" "Reminders should show when Windows Calendar is not running" Good luck a lot of people have issues with this same problem.

I would not go with a celeron processor if you are getting a laptop there are much much better processors available. I prefer AMD processors but Intel also has good options, celeron is just the bottom of the barrel. That 14" acer has a dual core AMD processor that would be a good option for your type of usage. It sounds like a good choice all around and has good reviews. I own 2 Acer's and have had no problems with them. One of them I bought at Best Buy, I do not use their geek squad so would not suggest getting any of their add on protection. You could google that notebook number and may find it at a better price somewhere else however that is a pretty good price.

You would need to buy an external TV tuner. The most popular ones for Macintosh are El Gato's Eye-TV and Hauppauge's MyTV. That would feed into the iMac/mini. (Before you choose to go with the mini, however, check the requirements for the tuner card. You're moving a fair amount of data; the mini's FireWire400 card may not have enough capacity and, of course, adding one is out of the question.) If you buy an iMac, you're done: the monitor is already hooked up. If you buy a mini, you'll need a monitor and cable (don't know if that would have to be DVI; again, check the requirements for the tuner card). DVI or not, they're not hard to find and they're not expensive (though DVI will eliminate choosing from the loss-leader "cheap seats"). Before you diss Apple's monitors as "too expensive", consider the quality of the picture you want. Apple's monitors may not be cheap, but they are uniformly excellent. I suspect if they were priced closer to even other high-end brands, they'd sell many more of them. If your viewing does not demand top quality, however, you can do well with monitors from Samsung, Acer, Sony, and Dell. If you're brave and willing to do some research, you could save some bucks buying a monitor directly from the Chinese companies (like Chi Mei) which fab the display screens in the first place. Or ... another choice: Sharp sells a combo monitor/TV which can be used either with the computer or as a standalone TV. They mention Macs (a plus). I don't know as it's cheaper than a regular monitor plus an Eye-TV, and I don't know if 23" will fit. But it may, and other manufacturers may sell similar products. Good luck. I kind of envy you: I have a 20-year-old TV that won't be replaced until it can no longer receive a signal.

Thank you Freedee! That would actually be a great creative way to handle it. The other complicating factor is this panel the contractor put in to have access to the wall mount faucet on the other side of that short wall. It is just an ugly plastic panel. I hate it. I guess if I did do a barrister style door but had it just face the main wall and (as you suggested) have the short side NOT enclosed, I could attach the barrister door hardware using my 1x2" idea and still have access to that panel. I probably will take out the panel and drywall it. I am also thinking of doing a bifold door for the corner and small wall and 2 barrister doors along the long wall....but is sounds messy and complicated. On the other hand I just saw a beautiful desk armoire in a magazine "Storage Solutions" I would have to give up the L to do it. Perhaps that is what I need to do. But then I still block half of the access panel.....AArrgh!

Mine pops up as soon as the computer is on. I don't actually have to be online.

But it doesn't store addresses. It can be set up to remind you of your schedule daily, weekly, monthly or yearly.

It is free.

I have had it since 2005, and am very happy with it. I have it on my second computer now.

it's called elmusoft. I have the English version, even so I saw it first in German. I wanted my girls to be able to access it too. :)

Hallmark has a program similar to Creatacard. I also went through this when I went to Windows 7, there is no creatacard program that is compatible with 64 bit, apparently.
